Modified Aster LNER A4 "Mallard"

6 ай бұрынThis Factory Built Aster LNER A4 "Mallard" is originally equipped with an axle pump mounted under the tender.
Since I already had major problems with the reliability of this configuration on my SBB A3/5 compound, I decided that the A4 should also be converted to a feed pump mounted under the locomotive.
This mounting position has the great advantage that much more adhesion force can be transmitted via the pump driving axle because there is considerably more weight on the driving axles than on a tender axle. Also, the water tank, which becomes increasingly empty with advancing running time, no longer plays a role.

Thanks, Tyfude. Our indoor layout is about 130 feet long and the curve radii are all 11.5 feet or larger. The layout has been able to handle every loco (including Challenger and Big Boys) so far.

No, so far no record attempts have been made. As a well-to-do middle-aged male adult, I try to adhere to the applicable speed limits. I prefer to leave the record attempts to the specialists who are better at it. Duck and away.... The challenge with gauge 1 steam locomotives is to keep them running smoothly at speeds similar to the prototype.
