My first saw was a McCulloch, an old one that my Grandpa had, with a hand pump oiler. Cut many balsam, maple, and cedar with that saw; put on an Oregon chipper chain and a sprocket nose bar. Great saw, lasted for years, until someone stole out of the garage.

Thanks buckin. I cut some small snags down that was dead. I used the bird mouth cuts that you showed worked great thanks for the tips. I like the tips and the fact you explain the use of the cut why you would cut them a certain way.👍keep up the good work.

Glad the tree next to the outdoor porch traveled to the right of the tree & didn't go left of it, creating a OOPS moment... Myself personally & not being a professional, I would have roaped that tree & appled light pressure to it away from the house. When working alone, I would use my tractor as a hookup point & pull the tree down. The 1st tree across the d/way, from my vantage point appeared the back cut came out below the hinge, hence the tearout above the hinge. First time I've observed this from you Buckin'... keep em' coming btw, I love this stuff! Bill on the Hill... :~)

My dad "worked in the woods" when he was laid off for a couple years, late 70s into the early 80s. I believe he used a pro-mac, probably a 10-10 based on what I can find for sale on Ebay. We used it to cut firewood for heating until the mid 90s, and then it was back up for a new 55 husky. He passed this summer, and I was trying to find that saw, can't find it, kind of sucks. I know he had trouble keeping it running, so it's probably at some ole small engine shop somewhere.

Why do you pull the cord out just before you turn your machine off?
@mwilliamshs5 жыл бұрын
The starter pawls (aka dogs) on the old McCullough saws are mounted on the flywheel. It's centrifugal force that holds them in. As the flywheel slow down, that force decreases and the pawls can grab the recoil mechanism. If you pull the cord out before shutting down the saw, your arm will absorb any shock from kickback. If you don't, that shock is transferred to the recoil mechanism and must be absorbed by the cord, the handle, the pawls, etc. Pulling the cord before shutdown protects all those components. There is a good bit of force at play so get a good grip on that handle. The procedure is found in old McCullough owner's manuals and is only relevant to flywheel mounted recoil pawls and may in fact damage other saws like the Homelites with their overrunning starter clutches/one-way bearings

@JCrook10285 жыл бұрын
Most fallers do it that way. It reduces waste on the keeper portion of the log. If he did it from the top then he would have to cut it again to have a straight butt end.
@jeffryblackmon48465 жыл бұрын
COOL VIDEO. That knurled and knotted tree surprised me that it was hollow. When you walk to the camera to speak, please stop the saw's engine or leave the saw behind. I could not understand a word you said and I can't read lips. Thanks.

Buckin', Tim (Cotontop3) was talking about anti-fog safety glasses in his latest video, and saying just how much of a workout handling a big power saw can be. Heck, I had no idea how heavy those things are, (more than 20lb) and holding them up in front of you for hours at a time must take it out of you. No wonder you can swing that axe one handed knocking in wedges. Check it out at 15:00 onwards if you get a few minutes to spare. I have to say it made me respect you guys all the more! kzfaq.info/get/bejne/jtePmJRhktDVgmw.html
