I modified Bentley House Mini's 1:12 scale fireplace room box by making it even taller with a larger floor. I'm using it to build the Gryffindor Common Room in miniature.

I got the fabric from a site called Spoonflower. I was all too happy to buy the tapestry fabrics I need. I'm not patient when it comes to learning new techniques that involve technology, but I will learn to use my printer to make fabric at some point.
Some of my favorite things:
Miter Shears- these are the clippers I use to cut pieces of wood and toothpicks etc

Oyu Pla/Oyumaru reusable mold putty

Cheaper clear mold putty I haven't tried

2 oz bottle of Diamond Glaze

8 oz bottle of Diamond Glaze

Heat gun- I use mine to quickly dry paint, soften the glue to dismantle furniture and quickly cure polymer clay without an oven. Gets a lot hotter than a hair dryer.

Thanks so much! This kit couldn't have been more perfect for what I need. The roof line and beams are fantastic. I'm usually indecisive but it feels really low risk working with cardboard. You can easily just patch a hole if you cut the wrong thing or make an entirely new piece from an Amazon box 😆

Just when I was thinking I haven't had a QCM fix lately, BOOM! You delivered! I'm so excited to see what happens next with this common room, you make changes (seemingly) fearlessly bringing your imagination to life and I am totally here for it! Also I can totally relate to the glue trying to escape the bottle, I have one tube of glue that I have to be super quick to use because even without squeezing, it all wants to rush out all over the place, leaving a massive sticky mess and globs everywhere lol. Well it's either that or the top completely seals itself up....never anything in between the two extremes 🙄😖🤣🤣🤣
@queencityminis
@queencityminis 9 ай бұрын
I did feel fearless with this build. Using an existing kit that's made of cardboard took away the stress since you can repair or replace anything. It would've taken me ages to do all this from scratch. It took less than an hour! Sounds like you just described my experience with E6000. I've wasted more of that glue than I've used too.

I relate so much to this! Watching Little Gretchen's Workshop has helped me learn to just go with it. Especially with these cardboard rooms. You can literally remake a piece if you mess it up, or use the frames you pop the pieces out to trace and cut practice pieces.

I stored my bottle on the side so it would come out easier. Luckily I found it before it touched the carpet!!! It looked like a round bubble, but it was more like a clear ball of dried glue. Size of a marble like a crystal ball!! But it was fun to play with and squeeze and squish. I'm not sure where it is now. So happy it didn't reach the rug. It was a fidget toy. My problem with 3 in 1 or Fab-tac is that I either lose the little tops or screw the bigger tops on too tight and they crack. I found that several layers of plastic wrap and a rubber band works just as well as the tops that come on the bottles and are easily replaceable. I just tear off some plastic wrap, fold it into an approximate 2 inch square, drape it over the top of the bottle and wrap a rubber band around it (several times) until it holds the plastic wrap tight. BTW, I really like the modifications you have made to the room.
