I have the Modkat xl litter box. Works well with the 4 cats I have. The step for the box can be moved all the way left or right so the notch pinches the wall. This will stop the step from moving and your cats will trust to use the step. I use 3 inches plus of clumping litter on the base. This prevents cats from digging all the way to the bottom of the litter box. Urine and stools will not reach the liner either. ( except for the sides, no winning there) Spring and fall are when I discard the litter and clean the litter box outside.

Super pawesome product review video, Jenny!!! Great job! Very thorough! Lurved it!!! These do look like such cool litter boxes (minus the step thingy which I don't think most of our big kitties would use but I can see that it might be very useful for a kitten)!! Modkat IS such a very cool company, indeed!!! Adored the end of the video. The playfulness of Charlie in the litterbox had be laughing out loud. And Chiggy relaxing in his litterbox made me chuckle. AND...that look on Chiggy's face as Charlie jumped out of his box was like, "Man, I just do NOT understand that guy!" lol Big hugs & lots of love!! :)

From all the reviews I’ve seen the step is just a wobbly pain in the cats behind! That’s why they’re leaping instead of stepping onto it

These seem awful small, but it is what works for your cat. I still like a large tote with a low entrance for my senior gals.

it's been 5 years, but i think i put it on at an angle and then rocked it on. otherwise, i would just reach out to modkat and ask? it's definitely not necessary for them to use it.

I'd love to see you review their new Modkat XL. I'm thinking about that, but of course it is pricey. You give honest reviews and I'd like to see what your kitties think. I've just lost my 18 yr old gal and all litter boxes in house have entrances cut down to one inch so she was able to enter. Now my other cat walks in, squats and usually pee's half in or over the one inch lip. I thought the Modkat XL might be a nice replacement for the totes. Thanks

i am sorry about your senior kitty loss. you'll probably need to tell modkat that you'd like for me to review that =). although they sent me these, they were not very responsive after the fact, so that didn't help my motivation with their products. does sound like you need a deeper box.

I may go with another NVR Miss box, I like those and the slippery inside that nothing seems to stick to. I saw they come in colors now too.

thanks. haven't heard from them, but not really surprised i haven't. i usually keep the litter about 2 inches deep. maybe 2.5 inches?

Thank you for making these reviews! So helpful. I have a 12 pound rag doll cat and it’s sometimes difficult finding a litter box that she can fit in comfortably. I like the splash guard feature to help prevent some litter fallout. Have a great day!

I think this would be great if I had "normal' cats, but mine are all air scrapers. The tops of the sides would be constantly battered by many paws. How nice it would be to have cats who actually bury their waste instead scratching the walls a foot above the tray. Willetta is the worst as she will hop in after the other cats are done and air dig for a good minute or two. I suspect she thinks she is performing some sort of magic by gesturing wildly above, but if so, she needs to go back to wizardry school because it's just not doing the job!

They really need to make a litter box with no seams so urine can not seep through. This nonsense with the splash guard being attached with clips is dumb. Why not make it all one connected unit with no connections or seams? That way it works better. Can you tell me where that nice looking garbage can can be bought and who makes it? I could use that

my guess is they have to make it this way for shipping purposes and also for manufacturing purposes, but i totally get what you're saying. i used to work for a plastics manufacturer and shipping and machine-making were two things that i learned keep people from creating something they want. sure, the garbage can is a litter genie - amzn.to/2UuRYAv

@@Floppycats I think the best solution could be just to use a plastic storage container and cut a hole in the side for an entrance. This way there are absolutely no seams, it is easy to clean by just taking the top off, easy to clean since the inside is all smooth and no edges. Seems like that could be so easy to manufacture since they manufacture these storage containers. Thanks for the can link.

@@timjohnson8820 yes, many people already do that - but i am not a fan of a lid on it. and the plastic storage containers sometimes have cervices that are terrible for clumps of litter. it would be great if someone made one for cats especially.
