Sections used in the construction of modular housing are being manufactured at Midleton in Cork.
Roh-Fab Buildings Limited manufacture pre-cast reinforced concrete panels at their factory in Midleton. Doors, frames and windows are also made here, and the assorted components are assembled
To make the finished houses in different sizes and styles.
This method of mass-produced components for building houses also means that it will take a builder eight to ten weeks to construct a house.

They were great houses but hard to heat. If I remember right they £3500 including delivery and election. You needed to have your own foundation and drainage ready and I think it took 2days to erect including the roof. Plenty of them still around.

What no insulation in those prefab buildings., the thickness of walls, floors and roofs in new houses are mostly made up of insulation materials so you can be toasty, cosey and warm all year round, I recall a time when most people single glass windows would be mostly frosted up on a winters morning, We miss the good old days because we were younger then and hardy

The frost doesn’t form on double glaze, it’s not that houses are necessarily warmer.

@@monkeybudge You may have misunderstood what I said, our homes did not have any double gazing in our younger days, it was strictly single-glazed windows only

@@jamesbradshaw3389 No, I understand perfectly. I used to have the frost creep up the windows when I was a kid too. All part of Jack Frost being out causing trouble. What I was saying is, now most houses have some form of double glaze, so you don’t get frost on the windows anymore because of this. It’s a combination of the houses being better insulated and the windows being double glazed. The single pane glass from yesteryear was liable to have frost on it.
