I show how to make a DIY live edge epoxy resin table from a mystery “swamp” wood. Get your personalized Ethos insurance quote in 10 minutes: ethos-life.sjv.io/modmaker-feb24 Rates as low as $10/mo with my code. Big thank you to Ethos for supporting the channel!
When I saw this log of an unidentified species of wood, that my hardwood lumber dealer just called swamp wood, I had to have it. The fluted cross section and mangrove-like side profile were both amazing. I decided to make a DIY coffee table from stumps of this log, with an epoxy resin top. I poured the epoxy resin around the stumps of wood, so that the cookie cross section of the wood stumps is exposed in the epoxy top, and the sides of the stump that form the table base are also visible. I think this woodworking and epoxy resin project came out super cool - but what do you think?

Amazing build. You did justice to natural beauty of that wood.. Btw what happened to the stumps you pulled from epoxy? How did you get rid of the partially cured resin

Those were the final stumps... A ton of acetone was used to clean the uncured epoxy off

Fun fact: Mexican Logwood can also be used as a natural pink dye (I find it works best with an alum mordant). If you look online, a 500g bag of the stuff sells for like $50, so if you wanted you could make quite a bit of money just selling the sawdust left over from the project. I'm lucky enough to live in an area where it's cheaper though (southern US)

This gotta be one of the top epoxy builds on KZfaq (out of 3.4 million epoxy videos). The wood pattern and tint make this a REALLY nice piece.

Usually not a fan of epoxy tables, but in this one, the epoxy highlighted the natural beauty of the wood without being a distraction. Amazing job!

If you liked this you'll probably like Blacktail Studios. Cam hates fiddling with funky epoxy table colors and clear pours, he usually just sticks to super pretty wood in simple black epoxy.

I, for my part, love inperfections in the epoxy (color swirls, bubbles) when wood in its nature-given form is involved. In my opinion These inperfections are able to show the real beauty of the wood.

You really did that beautiful wood justice. I made the exact same mistakes on my 8 foot butcher block turned computer standing desk. We adopted a little orange kitty not long after I finished that project though and sometimes He comes in a little too hot hopping into his bed on the end of my desk & the whole thing just slides right off. It's ALWAYS hilarious. Totally makes redoing the entire 3,000 grit sand & polish 100% worth the endless entertainment.😹😹
