First time I saw Moe , he drove into a driving range where i was hitting balls -clearly knew the owner who was about to close - the two of them chatted as Moe hit driver off packed dirt lies in front of the tees - range balls - no tee and a club he grabbed out of a barrel. 20 in a row pure as the driven snow - never stopped talking the whole time - amazing man.

That group of balls on the ground was from his previous range session. He just walks out on the range and hits them back and forth.

The man was amazing. I could listen to him and watch his videos all day. The passion he had for this sport was just phenomenal. Wish I could have met him.

I've never seen this and I've searched for all of Moe's videos. I'm so glad I ran into this one!

I recently adopted Moe's left foot movement, it really has a stabilizing effect on my swing, I strike ball more accurately. Yesterday despite my left knee injury, with Moe's footwork, I managed to walk the 18 holes, and shot a nice 82. I didn't has presssure on aching knee as the move doesn't require a knee twist. I feel like I can swing like this well into my 80's without a knee replacement. And that's a master move, I recommend it.

Loved Mo. He taught me how I can play with the baseball grip since I have small wrists and never could get comfortable using interlocked grip. Best score was 67 and no bogeys with one eagle. Moe will always have a place in my heart and the love of golf he gave me. You get out of golf what you put in it. It is not forgiving.

This guy is fantastic! He's entertaining as can be... I love listening to him talk about himself. That's confidence!

While watching Moe I'm always impressed with how much room he gives himself to the ball thus allowing his arms to swing through impact without restraint.

Bless his heart - even though it failed him in the end. Moe was remarkable - his confidences as a golfer was remarkable, as a person off the course he felt life was imposed upon him - that's my best guess He mentioned one time how he would, as a pre-teen caddie in Canada, sleep in the first hole bunker and be ready to "catch the first loop at sunrise." Moe Norman was incredible … in so many ways.

Feeling of greatness! That's a huge tag to have on your shoulders knowing how good you are, yet I and many other golfers around the world never even heard of Moe Norman which was a shame! So many turned their back on this lonely man who put many pro golfers in the shade! I feel we were robbed in not viewing Moe and his swing when he was in his prime! I was hoping this years masters would have been won by Bryton and his one plane swing - maybe next year - Hope your watching Moe!

How does he never thin or chunk. Yes I get his swing is built for consistency. But even nonchalant during conversation, it's so effortless and so pure every time. It's crazy!!

Pipeline Moe! 55 career wins on the Canadian tour including two Canadian PGA Championships, 25 cuts made out of 27 PGA starts, 1 top ten and 7 top 25 finishes, 17 holes in one and 33 course records. He had a habit of barely lining his putts up and played extremely fast, if he had took his time in the short game, there is no telling how good he could have been.

Feel vs Real is very easy to mock when you see someone else but do it yourself and then film it and you won't understand your body anymore! I considered myself to be quite in tune with my body and my feel was that I was doing something so incredibly awkward and my hands were straight above my head when literally they were around my waist!! Moe Norman was a professional golf player - one of the 0.1% of all golfers. He hit 90% fairways during his career! That is insane and most likely by all eye witness and professional accounts he hit 9% in the first cut and 1% was a "bad" shot. He once hit a ball over a bridge on purpose in order to carry the water his ball otherwise would have gone in... Let that sink in for a moment. This was not a hacker with tall tales, this was a pro on the circuit with media coverage and people around him. Despite the mockery he got for obviously being a bit "different" - his ability spoke for itself, when Tiger Woods and Nick Faldo called him the best ball striker they've ever seen, why would they lie? They have no reason to stroke his ego! The first time I watched him I was also like, this is an obvious joke, but when you read the stats and see the facts, it becomes even worse but then you get over your cognitive dissonance and see that if it wasn't for him being so abused because of how different he was especially in a very alpha male dominant era previously in the PGA, he would have been regarded as one of the best ever to play the game and surprising that people who actually did see him play and followed him including major golf stars, do hold him in that regard!

Great ball striker and mad respect for Moe, but it's always interesting to hear guys describe what the feel like they are doing vs what they are actually doing. He talks about no, or very little hip turn. Everything about his swing is pretty compact. I'd say he has a decent amount of hip turn for his compact swing.

Having tried so many teachers in 50 years of playing I tried Moe’s ideas, now 5 months have wizzed by I hit the ball solid, straight and my carry is 257 yards with total distance 277 average Trackman measured.

I'm with Moe, I tried focusing on hip turn for a long time, dragged me off the ball and and took my focus away from what shoulders arms and hands were doing. Dragging straight down from the top of the back swing like Fred Couples changed everything for me, all my distances were corrected, 170 for 7 iron etc, and it was effortless

Another way of describing the feeling of the vertical drop is thinking about swinging to the outside of the ball. When I watched this video I didn't agree visually agree with how he described it, but I knew exactly what he's talking about. Everyone feels the swing differently but he's absolutely right

Moe was a Genius....As he says “Plain and Simple. Have never seen anyone like him, before or since.

With all his great ball striking what was even more remarkable is his ability to transfer his weight to his left side. Even in his later years he had enough rotation in his left hip to allow his left foot to stay planted as he rotated to his finish. Flexibility in the body pivot is one of the keys to a consistent repeatable swing.

Pipeline Moe was known for his unconventional behavior on the course. It is said that on one hole his caddie told him he could get to the green with a driver and a 9-iron. Naturally, he hit a 9-iron off the tee, and then hit the green with his driver. RIP Legend.

I remember working on the golf course and seeing Moe and Nick "the wedge" all the time. Quite the pairing that is for sure. Moe was always playing three balls and it was bizarre how accurate he was with every club. A chatter box that did not make much sense most of the time and to say he did not like talking to strangers is an understatement. In this day of modern treatment for problems with which he suffered he might have been able to make it on the tour.

Ever heard of Joe Korman? Iceland's greatest golfer. Won 55 "Icee" championships and made the cut 25 times on the PGA tour. He was considered one of Europe's best ball strikers by swinging the club between his legs to keep the ball low. He had to wear a cup to protect his own balls, but his big back swing and limited follow thru gave his worm burners a real punch. Reminds me a lot of Moe.

I used exactly the same drill with placing tees in front and try to clip it off ground..i figured it out too and practices it..God knows it works and improves my Driver till now

Look at all the critics. I saw Moe on three occasions, and he is the only man I know that`ll tell you where the ball is going before he hits it, with the same club no less.

Pipeline Moe & Sam Snead both had 240 yards to water 275 yard carry. Sammy hit it 230, Moe hit it 250 off the bridge, one bounce & came to rest total of 325 yards with a persimmon wood driver. Moe would play you for your house, cars, wife, bank account, 9 holes in the dark 1 ball. He'd be in your bed before the sun came up & you would still be looking for your first tee shot. He would hit a flagstick 150 yards away 20 to 30 times in a row & let you choose the club. Moe once hit 1,500+ balls in a 7 hour time span, all of them landing inside a 20 yard radius. Greatest ball striker of all time.

God bless him - I think he's fantastic and in this video he gives one of the best tips I have ever gleaned. The bit where he says his club tends to go backwards and behind him on the downswing. I use this or rather think about it in the downswing, and I honestly can say it has improved my performance. In as much as, it stops me throwing the club out like a fishing rod.

When it was his time in the hospital, the doctors asked Moe if he knew where he was. Moe said he was on the 8th hole. They found out later the hospital was built over a golf course and Moe was right.

Ive started swinging my irons like Moe with emphasis on shoulder movement and 3ft before and after the ball as my crucial area of straightness and connection . and Im hitting them beautiful and straight . When he says no hip movement he doesnt mean none at all he means none of this exagerated before connection and after connection rotation you cant take him literally you just have to watch and understand he played 100% feel . no fancy lessons just feel.

As a kid, I saw moe put on a demonstration in Thunder Bay, Ontario. I'm 57 now, so about 45 years ago.

Some top comments here are saying that Moe doesn't actually do what he's describing. He's not describing his movements watching them, he's describing how he feels them. Big difference. Many swing thoughts/routines are far more extreme than the actual outcome. Have you seen Justin Rose's pre-shot routine?

His swing is non-rotational. No turning of his forearms or concious rotation of his hands . It's like skipping a stone across a pond. His left hand and back of the forearm just go straight through .Again no rotation . It's his grip and set up that change everything. The future of golf ...or back to the future is right here . Much simpler method of hitting a spherical object on the ground with a stick. We have all been hoodwinked by traditional teaching methods .

Played nine holes at arriss valley golf course, with Moe one morning didn't know ,it was him ,strangest surreal round of golf I ever had,he would call out all his shots ,need a two foot draw on this one ,need a two foot draw on this ," then bang he would hit a two foot draw. I'm thinking I can't believe this lucky old,bugger, all game .lots of fun

I agree his swing looks effortless and he is an awesome ball striker. Wish I had his shot. However, there is a disconnect between what he says is working and what I see. His demonstration of the vertical drop looks nothing like his actual swing. He says he no or very little hip movement, however I see a good bit of hip movement considering the smoothness of his swing.
