I´ve found that it is very productive with Moebius to copy one panel but adding something of my own.. extra object, extra character, change the clothes... it makes it similar enough so you can copy his technique but also different so you have to solve resolve the extra stuff on your own. Nice video!

Another well crafted video with the kind of advice that I don't see a lot elsewhere. I like how you break things down simply for beginners. Often instructional videos assume too much knowledge. You also do it without sounding condescending. Love it

The thing most interesting and frankly most useful about Moebius is that he was not only adept but masterful at pen&ink in a WIDE variety of different styles, ALL unique to him. Seek our his work! There's an education in every panel of every story from "Lieutenant Blueberry" to "Arzach" to "Airtight Garage" & more! Get to work!

Finding purpose-driven practice is great. I have been floating aimlessly, adrift in a haze, wanting more art in my daily life without knowing how or why. Thanks for the great video content. I really appreciate you sharing your own journey and process. As a noob, I have been overwhelmed by the huge corpus of content and humbled by seeing the amazing creators and masters' work. I am working on enjoying the journey. And setting small personal goals. Thx!

I really enjoy these videos . It's lovely seeing a skilled artist talk about learning and improving; sharing their difficulties and inspirations. When things aren't quite coming together, or the improvements are slowing down a bit, it's super reassuring and motivating to know there are other artists out there persevering. I love your drawings and we seem to share many artist inspirations. Thanks. As for recommendations: Claire Wendling is an absolute favourite, though she mainly works in pencil.

One of the things that drives me nuts about Giraud is that he often drew stream of consciousness comics and would draw his cartoons straight to ink (no pencils) and very fast! What a cartoonist! Haha Kim Jung Gi is also like this.
@longstrideillustration

I've watched many interviews of both Giraud and master Kim Jung Gi, and although they are genius artists, they also practiced constantly. I find it motivating to see hard working geniuses. (and agreed, that can drives us nuts too haha).

As an illustrator of 30+ years, I still continue to learn and improve. One of the most important and overlooked concepts is, "How do you learn?" Not everyone learns in the same way. Some need things explained in words and others need to be shown, or a combination of both. First determine how you learn, then alter the lesson to suit your preference. Otherwise you'll struggle, get frustrated and rage quit while taking pot shots at your self esteem.

Thank you Chloe for such insightful and instructive videos! Now there are so many great artists that I will try to restrict myself to just 5. I will start with Frank Frazetta as his work is quintessential. Next Geof Darrow, Kelly Jones, Esteban Maroto and Walter Simonson. I would love to see your take on any of these or any other artists you find interesting. Thank you again for all you do.

I would love to get better at pen and ink, though i have shakey hands, and cant even draw a normal thing in pencil without it taking a while. When i take time on sketches they can look pretty good but with my hands im just not sure id be able to do pen and ink. Main inspiration for wanting to do pen and ink was Kentaro Miura, berserk is one of my favorite manga series thought it doesnt help that i've only ever read 2 and one of those was when i was little but oh well.😅 im not a big anime or manga guy but Berserk was an exception

I have digitally traced a couple of my favorite comics inkers, essentially to see if I can even DO so digitally. I get about 90% there, I think, especially over brush artists.Rudy Nebres is IMO the greatst talent with a brush who ever worked in the biz. His inking with John Buscema on the B&W Conan books is jaw-dropping. Moebius is no slouch, either, just not technically in the same class. A better artist overall, yes, but not nearly as skilled. I don't think Jean Giraud was ever about laying down the perfect line, anyway; if you look at his Lt. Blueberry work, it is very energetic and loose, certainly not "pretty" except in the sense of the whole. It's wonderful to have so many brilliant artists for inspiration.
@longstrideillustration
@longstrideillustration 7 ай бұрын
I totally agree with what you're saying, they had different styles and intention - both prolific. Rudy Nebres worked with some of the Great penciller's and I love John Buscema's work. I've added both to my list, thank you!
