Sometimes I regret being a part of this generation where women are described as objects and songs that have half lyrics are called love songs. But I feel lucky that I at least get to appreciate real music which was made in the past. Just the lyrics were enough to make a girl feel loved. True love was described. Women were described as the beauty they were. There was decency, everything was pure and divine even. That era will never come back because music is only getting worse but we can still go back in time to listen to these beautiful evergreen classics.

We haven't seen or heard Taan Sen, but I have no doubt that Mohd. Rafi would excel anyone in the past or present in melody, modulation, octave range, variety, versatility, universality, lyric-expression, play-back singing, characterization, etc.--the list goes on and on! I'm also positive that the more time passes by, the more precious and rare his voice will become. He will be the Van Goff, the Picasso, the Bach from the sub-continent! There will be a lot of research done and probably some Ph. D's acquired about him. He is the Mount Everest in human voice! And there is only one Mr. Everest! An endless, bottomless ocean of music and melody! He was the Dream Voice for all music directors. A composer would present him with a silver vase and Rafi would return him/her-a gold or platinum one. Quite a few composers on quite a few occasions said “Rafi Sahib sang far above our expectations! His songs look so EASY to sing but when you do try to emulate them, it's a different story altogether! I grew up with his voice and used to wait-heart and soul for his next song! I feel so fortunate to have seen him only once, three years before his early demise! HE IS A GIFT OF NATURE TO ALL MANKIND! I don't think there will be another RAFI for EVER!

I met Rafi briefly in Lautoka Fiji in 1972. He was a man of very few words. There was just one Mohammed Rafi...another one will never come..Just like there was only one Mohammad Ali {fastest heavyweight boxer}..and another one will never come....You don't have to admire what I admire because my taste is different from yours; just like one man's meat is another man's poison. I have greatly admied some of Hemant Kumar's songs and of course Manna Dey but when it came to real sentimental songs it is always Rafi and will always be Rafi.
