This song is about the migration from the Indian contract labourers (kantraki's) to the former Dutch colony Surinam. It describes how they had to suffer and how badly they were treated by the Dutch plantation owners. But Indian in diaspora have proven themselfs over and over again, they kept their Indian language and culture, and nowadays the Indian from Surinam ("Hindoestanen") are of of the most succesfull Indians in the West Indians.
