What a magnificent boss. Just outright a Villain, not a Hero that fell from Grace, nor a righteous guy on his own Quest, but a Villain through and through. Rare Occasion in Souls Games.

To be fair, it’s not necessarily his fault he became such an evil person. Being born an omen would surely fuck with your head pretty badly, along with being pretty much outcasted by your entire family. And of course he was also manipulated by the formless mother. I think all things combined just turned him absolutely irredeemably wicked.

He's slightly tragic in the sense that he never had any other option other than to be a villain. Unlike morgott he seemed like a completely neglected child that no one even acknowledged he existed until he was noticed by the mother of blood, but by that time he had already fell completely into the deep end.

I think the only other instance I can think of a true villian was Sulyvahn back in DS3. He had a lust for power iirc and helped Aldrich take over Irithyll and Anor Londo

I almost want to respect Mohg because he was given literally no chance. No possibility of happiness or love or respect. But instead of succumbing to the shame and disgrace of his situation (like his brother Morgott), he found joy and purpose in the very thing that was supposed to be his ultimate setback. But then he decided to screw it all up by being a chomo psychopath, so yeah screw him

I got the same sensation from Gael, Maria, and oddly enough, phase 1 Godfrey. I think something about their moves just has a nice rhythm to it.

I still can't believe that Mohg was originally designed to be a generic boss that we would encounter in various places, I must thank KZfaqr Zullie the Witch for discovering all this. His model name in the source code is 'GreaterDemon,' and he has a loadlist for places like Murkwater Catacombs, Raya Lucaria Academy, Gelmir and Auriza Hero's Grave. I imagine the developers looking at the ''Greater Demon'' and saying ''Damn, the final design of this Boss is too good to be a regular enemy, we should give him a story and a deeper context.'' It's like when you create something for a purpose but you end up liking the design so much that if or if you should put it in a more relevant place, the source code reveals that in the fight with Malenia, Miquella originally had dialogues during her sister's phase change - "My dear twin, accept this gift "A gift of abundance, my last drop of dew. Let all things flourish, whether graceful, or malignant." So Mogh and his entire story and context were added very late in the development of the game to the point that just to add Mohg and his story they had to throw out a lot of things that were already programmed and ready. I have no doubt that the developers at some point looked at the Greater Demon model and thought it was so good that they ended up turning it into the Mohg that we all know.

I let my mom (who’s a music major) give a listen to this. Eerily enough, she described this piece as : “Dark, elegant, royal. As if I was unwillingly embroiled in a duet with a mastermind.” Never thought someone would describe my fight with this huge bastard a “duet” lmao

you should let her listen to Bloodborne's soundtrack. A far more impressive selection of tracks than what Elden Ring has to offer. Ludwig, the Holy Blade is probably the best track in the game imo

@@glasoni Funny you’d say that, actually! She’s a connoisseur of game OSTs, and I remember that her all-time-favorite musical compositions in a video game are (in no particular order) - Lady Maria - Ludwig, The Holy Blade - Sister Friede’s phase 1 (from Dark Souls 3)

I disagree. The second phase complements the first incredibly well. It becomes far more hubristic, insecure, showy - layers of baroque sophistication being peeled back to reveal a purely desperate and operatic evil.

I mean, you basically are. Mohg is considered the epitome of evil in Elden Ring lore, his blood magic is quite literally fueled by the outer gods, as he just slashes into their bodies to steal blood from and weaponize. He has no reason to be evil, he literally just is.

He was born an omen like his twin Morgott, and his shackle description says that he was confined (possibly on the sewers of Leyndell with the rest of the omen). Because of this, I believe that it could be that Mogh grew resentful of the Golden Order and that's why he's trying to usher an age of blood with Miquella as his puppet.

His weakness is a trap. He gets a damage/defense buff if bleed occurs anywhere near him, this applies to you, any and all summons near him, and himself.

@@Guyy_1 Godricks theme sounds most similiar to a BB song out of all the ER songs. Very similar signatures and instruments and also happens to have a waltz mixed over the main Godrick theme(Just like the waltz from Ludwig the holy blade).
