The pilot shortage in the united states and around the world is real. Commercial airlines are desperate for new pilots since older pilots are going into retirement. But the US military is also short of pilots; about 2,000 pilots to be more exact.
The civil air patrol is an auxiliary of the air force. They have several mission and one is to educate youngsters and bring them into the aviation community. It’s a legitimate path for young man or woman to join the United States Air Force.
In the video we interview Joe and Mike, both senior civil air patrol members and they inform us on how the program runs. If you are interested in the civil air patrol program or joint the airfare, check out www.gocivilair...

The problem is not with people wanting to join to be pilots, but with retention of pilots. Multiple deployments away from families and the ability of airlines to pay high salaries contribute to the shortage.

I was in Civil Air Patrol. Got my glider pilots license, did ELT searches, worked with fire dept. rescue and had a blast! Actually joined USAF as an starting as an E-3 because of it. Great organization!

So glad you did a video on the civil air patrol. I joined up a few months ago as a non-pilot senior member. I am so impressed with what I've seen so far. The opportunities awarded to the cadets is amazing. Each cadet is allowed 5 flights in a powered aircraft and 4 flights in a glider aircraft where they can take the controls. Additionally there are programs within civil air patrol where cadets can get their private pilots license completely funded by the Air Force.

CAP overall is a good deal. There are some good benefits and training for those intrested in aviation. But whatever you do just make sure you get into a *good squadron* I can't stress this enough!

Even if you get into a bad one, it's a good thing because it promotes growth for that Squadron. Always remember, C.A.P started with a truck and a few handheld radios and now have 500+ aircraft and 60,000 personel.

09065 Cadet Here.... 4yrs Rescue Specialist and I was privileged to be apart of something much bigger than myself. I'm 38yrs old now and everything I learned as a youngster in the civil air patrol carried over in my adult life... If it wasn't for this program it would be impossible for me to have made it through the many challenges and disappointments in life alone.... Thank you CAP... you gave me the mindset and additional tools I needed to conquer any obstacle ahead of me!

Almost five years in CAP. Cannot say enough good things about it. I am a mission observer in the air and have met the most amazing people. When I was involved in a unit with cadets, I saw amazing changes in youth. Civil Air Patrol teaches leadership, discipline, and excellence. It is a wonderful program for youth and adults. I am currently training in FEMA GIS disaster analysis. My math teachers are rolling in their graves because I am up in the air doing math in my head and am now so sorry I was such an eye rolling teen. I am a better person at 64 because of Civil Air Patrol.

Im in the civil air patrol currently working on becoming an NCO, (currently a Cadet Senior Airman) I am part of the Southeast Composite Scuadron in Minnesota with about 38 other cadets. I highly recomend Joining CAP, and there is a heck of a lot more than just flying. My father was a Cadet in the Civil Air Patrol and had a blast as Well, he got to the rank of Leutenant Colonel and almost got to the rank of Colonel but ended up having to leave for basic training before being able to achive that. I am currently working on getting my private gliders licence working up to my commercial pilots licence for both fixed wing and helicopter in the future.

Hey, I didn't join until I was 60 and it was all by chance. Today I am a qualified mission observer in the air. I have had the opportunity to mentor youth and also the opportunity to fly where I do navigation and radio. Lots of math too. You're a young guy and we need future leaders, so I hope you find a good squadron. I am a better person because of Civil Air Patrol. Good luck and get in the air! Nothing like it.

I know this is an old video, but I was a CAP Cadet for 3 years (I know not long, but I was forced to leave since my family was moving away, and we could pay dues), and I had the best time of my life. At the time I was planning on getting into the USAF, but latter down the road that didn't happen. Now I'm going for my Airline Transport Pilot rating, and joining as a Senior Member, hopefully as a pilot. If you don't want to do anything remotely to do with the military then stay far away. If you like Aviation then it is a pretty good deal. Also the final Orientation Flight is a Solo. PS: I love the look of the CAP planes just such a good livery.

The Usaf could fix the pilot shortage in a heartbeat beat by allowing enlisted aviators again. Currently enlisted members are only eligible to fly RPA’s. The whole joy of flying is going up in the sky going places. A lot of aviators don’t want to work in a cubicle.
