Nice overall - and genius move with the washer or a bolt through the jack hole - but I find it easier to drop the strings through the pot holes and fish out through the f-hole then tie them onto the shafts - avoids having to fish the line out through those small holes. Oh, and tying another length of string to that washer in the jack hole that you leave outside the f hole makes retrieving the washer a snap.

That's a nice general overview of how to do it. The reality is that there is so much more to the process. Things get obstructed by wires tangling and caught up with one another. Watch the bridge ground. Most first timers will spend a lot if time before getting it right.

Great video Man! 👍😉 I have got exactly the same kind of USA harness upgrade pots, switch and switchcraft input plug unit. I changed my factory ES-339 Epiphone pickups But at USA size so I won't have to Redrill my holes. Thats a Great thing . For the new pickups (PRS 57/08 's ) I will just have to solder 5 leads; 2 ground from new pickups : 2 hot wires for my 2 new PRS . And the fifth: the Brige Tunomatic grounding wire to avoid the buzzing problems 😉 I'll post a video after the job is finished . 🎸🎶😁 All the Best Dan

2 or 3" blue painters masking tape over the F holes, and any other part you may scratch, works really slick!! Really speeds up the job. Good luck to you! 😁👍

I just this to my Casino this weekend. Let me tell you it is not as easy as you make it look. It probably took about 3 or 4 hours to dot it. Major pain in the butt. Also if you fish the string after you put everything in , how do you know if your fishing the right one? Isn’t better to put the string in the the corresponding hole and then attach it to the pot? This way you know your pulling it into the right hole. Just a suggestion.

Great video tutorial. Thanks. It's time for an update with more detail. Specifically more detail on removal (see rbtguthrie's comment). Another addition that would be very helpful is tips for guitars with slight variations in wiring like having the pup selector switch mounted on or near the upper horn. It's more an issue with center block semi-hollow body instruments. Keep up the good work Mojotone team.

Stew Mac makes a nice tool to push up the pots and switches from underneath instead of trying to get your fingers in there. Basically a glorified coat hanger

you skipped right over the soldering, the only part I needed to see, I'm looking for info on replacing push/pull pots with a mojojtone std. kit. I need info on what gets soldered where. Your wiring diagram is no help. If anyone can point me to some detailed info it would be greatly appreciated. I upgrading a 2017 Epiphone ES 335 Pro....thanks.

tie strings to the OLD parts first. pull them through and transfer them to NEW parts. pull them back. no fishing required. (good luck pulling everything through the f-hole!)

The man of the video made it that way because he need to enlarge the pots holes. If he tie the string to the old parts the string will get in the way of the drill bit

I'm always surprised when they don't attach heat-shrink straws, tubes and/or string to the old caps before removing them. But then I've never had to drill-out holes before. But even after that - feed strings, etc, from the top of the hole inside the guitar body to allow 'fishing' from the much larger F-hole than trying to drag them up from the body thru the li'l switch-holes. It seems this video does it the far more difficult way.

I was hoping for some great new ideas for fishing everything in place. I hate rewiring semi hollow bodies, I think they should have cut a hole in the back with a cover like a Les Paul sometimes lol

Stupid question time. Does this harness work for a 335-style bass as well? I bought one of the DIY kits. It's a dual pickup model designed with holes just like the guitar in the video. It seems like it should, but I want to make sure before I spend the money and find out it won't work. Thanks.
@MichaelDBauer
@MichaelDBauer 6 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the response. The ones that came with the kit are indeed 500k - A500K and B500K, 2 each. Hopefully, they will fit through the "F" holes. The Mojos look slightly larger. And hopefully, the holes won't have to be drilled out either. I can drill it, but I'd rather not. The wiring that came with the kit is atrocious. The wires are so thin that they snap loose easily when trying to fish them through the holes. I'll try to redo the harness one more time with better wire before buying a pre-made harness. I had all but two of the things up into the holes before I looked in and saw the main ground had broke free. I also haven't tried the string method of fishing them up through the holes. I saw a video where the guy used aquarium hose to attach to the pots and pull them through. That method worked well (up to a point) before the ground wire faux pas. In the video, the guy used the string method for the 3 way and the plug input, but I just bulked the size of the aquarium hose with masking tape for the plug in and it worked great. I put masking tape on the stem part of the 3 way. Those two pulled easily into place. The disaster came when the other wires became tangled inside the body after I pushed them all in. I should have wrapped them until them were a solid line instead of loose wires that became tangled. Live and learn.
