Tile installer here- that isn’t mold. It’s residue from bath products. Its also probably residue from the water itself. Well water especially, but city water too, still has minerals and sediments in it that build up over time. Please don’t use Clorox or citrus products on your tile. These products degrade the tile and grout each time you use it, making cleaning harder as time goes by. Dish soap and hot water are all you need it you maintain it regularly. If there’s a pesky area you can use a little diluted bleach every once and a while but not every week. Your tile will look great for years to come :)

I was here to comment similar. I use the least amount of cleaners of any kind as possible. Firm-bristled brushes, old toothbrushes and sponges or eraser sponges and water.. sometimes a little body wash and I clean while I shower. And that's that I have porous tiles and 17 years later, all still looks and functions like new. I stopped regularly cleaning my boys' bathroom and then it started getting this orangy color and it's slimy to the touch but easily removed with a brush and water. Add that squirter of mild detergent and voila! Gone! I recently began house cleaning on the side and people are amazed when I clean things like this up, but I don't keep it a secret and tell them that they can do this effortlessly 😅 Thanks for sharing your knowledge! 👏🏼 🙌🏼

Yes! I was hoping someone would mention this. Serratia marcescans is seen as a pinkish-orangish color; however, as air temperature changes with the seasons, it is often a clear, slimy growth. This bacteria is prevalent in the San Francisco Bay Area, as it was released into the atmosphere, along with another bacterium, as part of a U.S. Navy biological warfare experiment in September, 1950. Google ‘Operation Sea-Spray’ for more information regarding this experiment and the unfortunate consequences in releasing what was considered harmless bacteria over a heavily populated area.

Some alternate products that are healthier to be exposed to: - SOS pads or Barkeepers Friend are excellent for scrubbing the surface gunk off then use one of these after VVVVV -3% hydrogen peroxide is great for cleaning mold or mildew on any non-porous surface, like bathroom tile. Saturate. When it’s done bubbling or after 10 minutes, scrub off then wipe dry. DO NOT MIX WITH OTHER CHEMICALS. -Vinegar, works but takes time. Really saturate the area or wet a cloth with vinegar and lay it over the area and let it sit for an hour. Then scrub and wipe.

that's not mould, but I'm a hospital cleaner specialised in infectious disease. we don't really do maintenance like this, BUT there is nothing in a household u *need* bleach for. its really bad for ur lungs and using it in spray form is worse. even if u don't have health problems, use a mask and air out. That said, mould can be cleaned off all non-porus surfaces with regular dish soap and hot water. On porus surfaces, vinegar, soda (not with vinegar), borax, hydrogen peroxide - I would not recommend lemon juice bc while it works it also goes rancid and can give a bad smell over time. Co sisterly using overkill products creates resistent bacteria, and using too much and not getting all of it off surfaces afterwards will create a breeding ground for bacteria. As much as possible, just use water and a microfiber cloth.

It is not mold. It is the combination of iron and magnesium plus soap scum from your showering. Pretty common where you have hard water. Just keep a spray bottle with vinegar and dishwashing soap and spray the enclosure. You see the evidence of hard water in the bathroom and kitchen sinks and in the washer. It is everywhere. The ultimate solution is to install a water conditioner.

Is this still worthwhile to do without the brushing step? I have horrible red-brown and black mold ALL over my shower as well as a horrific drain fly infestation but for disability reasons I can’t reach it, I honestly don’t have the ability to clean the surfaces I can reach anyway, and I’m completely alone. I have trouble breathing when I spend too much time in there but turning the fan on just produces a burning smell now (I can’t reach that to clean it either) so I only use it to dry the room out, it can’t be on when I’m in there. Can spraying the mold and letting it sit and then immediately rinsing it off help at _all?_ I’m so desperate to figure something out here :(
@rdb49969 ай бұрын
Hmm, we need solutions here. Do you have OK water pressure? If so, you could try to spray, let it sit and then use the water pressure to dislodge. Might need repeating multiple times. Alternatively, is there a way for you to use a brush with a long stick? Or even a scrub sponge attached to the end of a broomstick perhaps?

If you were nearby, I'd help you. I do think sparying, leaving, and rinsing thoroughly would help. Are you able to use a long handled brush?
@blah9149 ай бұрын
u might be better off just using bleach then in a spray bottle then, not any specific brand. these clorox detergent bottles are bad for ur lungs bc the spray diffuses in a way that's easy for u to inhale. just bleach (dilute as directed on bottle) in a bottle w a more targeted nozzle is better. also much cheaper. use a mask anyway and it will bleach ur clothes. Usually this is overkill supreme, but if scrubbing is inacessible for u, then "overkill" might just bevneeded. there are tools that are electrical, like a brush attached to a drill. u can get attachment to a drill, or there are ones that are specially made and with a meter long handle. we can't put links in YT shorts, but they have them kn Amazon. If nothing else, please consider getting help for the first clean. I understand it might be a bit embarassing if its bad, but my grand uncle never let us help w anything, not even letting us into his apartment, and when he died we found it was full of mould and had probably caused many of the issues he was hospitalised and died for. if its too expensive there are charities who do pro-bono and yt channels that do free cleanings. maybe one of those teams are in your area ❤

I read someone's comment about spraying 3% hydrogen peroxide on moldy areas, let it bubble up, and after about 10 minutes or so, scrub or rinse it off. Will not be breathing in all the chemicals either. Worth a try.

Longer handle scrub brush. Home depot sells longer broom handles, and separate types of mop heads, or scrub brush. White vinegar in tub, drains, let sit overnight. Boil a pot of water, and pour into drains daily. Super washing soda, (from laundry aisle) mixed with warm or hot water, scrub in, let sit 5 minutes, scrub again. Rinse. Ket to getting rid of things, once set in, you have to wash it daily for a week or so. Then you can be sure it is truly clean, and back off to once a week, for regular maintenance.
