The history of Moldova can be traced back to the Principality of Moldavia. Later it became part of Greater Romania and later transformed into the Bessarabian Soviet Socialist Republic within the Soviet Union. The dissolution of the Soviet Union made Moldova an independent country named the Republic of Moldova. Yet, problems arose. One region named Transnistria seceded from Moldova. In this short Moldova history documentary you'll learn about the history of Moldova. History Hustle presents: Moldova - a short history.

@@HistoryHustle Basically that's why we ( Ro ) joined the war to recover Bassarabia and Hitler because they had a grip on Hungary wich could claim Transylvania and if we didn't then we lost the most productive part of the country . Hitler wanted bad Romania because of the oil , mainly 70% of the oil in Europe that germans used was from Romania . There were other parts of course , but germans had to use additives ( idk if that is the correct term) to purify the oil for use in their tanks and so on . It cost more money so it was very important strategically for Hitler to be in good terms with us . Ofc , if it came to it , i don't think it had any problems with invading . But there were about 1 milion german people , romanins but of german origin who lived in Ro , including the royal family wich was from a noble german line . After the war ,about 1946 only 300.000 survived and now there are about 37.000 germans of ethnicity . 50% were killed during communism and persecuted , the other fled to Germany or Austria . I reccomend you read Herta Muller, a romanian born citizen and noble prize winner who talked about this if you want to learn more .

I just want to note that the Republic of Moldova is not a successor of the Principality of Moldavia in any way. When bessarabia was stolen, the Principality still existed and the capital was in the western part. Then Moldavia united with Wallachia and united with Romania. That makes Romania the successor of Wallachia and Moldavia. The Republic of Moldova is just another entity

@@HistoryHustle Romania and the Republic of Moldova have the same history and language, and the two countries are more than sisters. Unfortunately history has made them two separate countries. Congratulations for your video. It is one of the most qualitative about this subject. It shows that you are documented. I would recommend you to use the term Republic of Moldova, not just moldova. The reason is that: a part of historical Moldova is in Romania. The former capital of the region is Iasi. There is no other name for this region and confusion is created. We, Romanians, when we refer to the country in your documentary, we call it Bessarabia or beyond the Prut (river). When we say Moldova, we refer to the region of Romania.

First Russia, then USSR, occupied important parts of Romania in the last centuries! Basarabia (today's Republic of Moldova + 3 counties: Cahul, Bolgrad and Ismail in the north of Danube Delta, currently in Ukraine) occupied first in 1812, then in 1940. It was the same unfortunate faith for the northern Bucovina, Herta county and Snakes Island in 1940 (currently in Ukraine). Everytime they did that, they tried really hard to russify the indigenous population (mainly Romanians) by mentaining a policy of terror: deportations in Kuban, Kazakhstan and Siberia (heavily changing the demography: during 80 years, between 1817 and 1897, the share of Moldovan population dropped by 30%), forbiding the Romanian language in administration, churches, schools, forcing the population to use the russian alphabet. After the Soviet occupation of Bessarabia in 1940, the Romanian population of Bessarabia was persecuted by Soviet authorities, especially in the years following the annexation, based mostly on social, educational, and political grounds; because of this, Russification laws were imposed again on the Romanian population. The Moldovan language introduced during the Interwar period by the Soviet authorities first in the Moldavian Autonomous Soviet Socialist Republic, and after 1940 taught in the Moldavian Soviet Socialist Republic, was actually the Romanian language but written with a version of the Cyrillic script derived from the Russian alphabet. The cultural and linguistic effects of Russification manifest themselves in persistent identity questions. During the breakup of the Soviet Union, this led to separation of a large and industrialized portion of the country, becoming the de facto independent state of Transnistria, whose main official language is Russian. The russians are really "friendly" neighbours...

sorry but a countries history does not start in the 1800's.. In recorded antiquity Moldova's territory was inhabited by several tribes, mainly by Akatziroi, and at different periods also by Bastarnae, Scythians and Sarmatians. Between the 1st and 7th centuries AD, the south was intermittently under the Roman, then Byzantine Empires. Due to its strategic location on a route between Asia and Europe, Moldova was repeatedly invaded by, among others, the Goths, Huns, Avars, Magyars, Pechenegs, Cumans, and the Mongols. The First Bulgarian Empire ruled the area or parts of it from the late 7th century/early 8th century until the late 10th century, the Principality of Halych in the 12th century and the Second Bulgarian Empire from the early 13th century with interruptions until the early 14th century. The colonists of the Genoa Republic also left a trace in this region. The Hypatian Chronicle mentioned the name of the Bolokhoveni (the 13th century) a purportedly Romanian population connected to voloch, the East Slavic exonym of the Romanians. Alexandru V. Boldur identified the Bolohoveni as Romanians Moldova has been invaded by more tribes, ethnicities and cultures almost more than anywhere else in Europe since ancient history, go check it out - en.wikipedia.org/wiki/History_of_Moldova

@@rudolphguarnacci197 About the early country's past, Middle Ages, Romanian historiography from which the rest take as reference tends to overlook many details, explicitly picking up what they want, and thuss leading to very diluted informations. There is a big apprehension to everything "foreigner". They don't even want to think of possible phenomenon like formation of a distinct Moldavian nation as long it existed a Moldavian state, so they made theories accusing diverse Russian regimes of "creating" it, that's the way they get spared of having to deal with undesirable affairs.
