Transnistria - a History of a Non-Existent Nation

What is Transnistria? Where is Transnistria? Is Transnistria a secret country? Is Transnistria a real country? Some call it a country in limbo; a country that doesn't exist; a non-existent country. Also known as Transdniestria (or: Pridnestrovian Moldavian Republic), with its capital Tiraspol, it is located in Eastern Europe. Unrecognized Transnistria has not been recognized by any sovereign recognized country so far. In this Transnistria documentary a brief histoy of Eastern Europe's secret country, also known as the last surviving piece of the Soviet Union.

Oh man, that young lady reciting a children's rhyme prising Lenin with a Pioneer salute gives me such an uneasy feeling even if she appears to treat it mostly as a joke. It's really bizarre that such a thing as Transnistria exists in modern Europe and most people didn't even hear about it. Great video!

Why does Lenin make you uncomfortable? Is it because his analysis of capitalism and imperilism still holds true till this day? His "prophecy" about the atrocities caused by extreme capitalism is so much felt during the COVID-19 pandemic, when you see that socialist China is the only major country that has handled it correctly. The West simply left people dying in nursing homes or on hospital floors. And sometimes under the police's "iron knee". Salute to Lenin! Salute to Marx, Engels, Lenin, Stalin, Mao, Castro and so on so forth. Yeah they may have made some mistakes. However, a communist fighter who makes mistakes is still a hero who has worked for the people, while the perfect capitalist bankers are murderers at best.

@@ofekmeir2305yes, their mistakes cost the world millions of lives and the bleak lives of many more. Yet you praise Lenin, probably because you have never lived under communism! I wish all of you to live just one year under such a ruler... but you would probably go about denouncing others...

@@HistoryHustle generally hearing about lesser known places on earth and its history is something that I find intriguing, besides that I enjoy how digestible the information was and your calm way of explaining things. the recording location was also a nice touch, it created the proper atmosphere.

I found it interesting but hard to understand as the audio quality was quite poor; the computer generated subtitles were useless. If you could add accurate subtitles, this would be so much better.

Actually I pack my travels together in the school holidays. Since Im a teacher I do enjoy several weeks of holiday a year. This video was recorded last summer, so was the previous one and the next one as well. I upload them now twice a week. Actually made it easier for me to understand 'why'. Just came back from a trip to MD and PMR. What a great place, and compared to Abkhazia (been there too) it felt very safe and clean there (in PMR)

You should not call Transnistria a country, its a breakaway province of Moldova, breakaway with russian help

The name coincides with the Transnistria Governorate, the Romanian controlled territory between the Dniester and Southern Bug (1941-1944).

I don't blame them wishing to be free from the poorest country in europe, we should recognise their independence. What alternative was there? ........... Stay under Moldovan rule and risk one day ending up part of the e.u

No we shouldn't recognise a Russian satellite. It is legitimately Moldovan and they have no right at all to succeed. And what if they are part of the EU? They will finally have lives with dignity
