In this segment of On Location, Coyote finds an elusive Mole Cricket!
Have you ever wondered what insects are making all that loud screeching at night? Well to find out usually all you need to do is grab a simple flashlight and follow the sound until you find the little screamer. However sometimes you can be looking right at the source of the noise and see nothing at all…how can this be?
Well in these rare instances what you’ve usually stumbled upon is a chirping Mole Cricket, and just like the name suggests these crickets are diggers and live most of their lives underground and out of sight.
Coyote’s goal on this adventure will be to find an exposed Mole Cricket and try a little experiment to show you just how well these subterranean insects can burrow!
Get ready to see the Cricket you never knew existed!
HUGE THANKS to Dr. Jimmy Smith and Wyatt Smith for hosting the crew at The Retreat at Artesian Lakes - please visit their website to book a relaxing vacation in South Texas bit.ly/artesian...

Jealous people and those who own/work for other wildlife KZfaq channels that solely rely on click bait thumbnails (sometimes gory images that go against KZfaq guidelines), viral viewers, viral subscribers and they wonder why they have terrible viewer retention. Hm, I wonder why their views suck compared to Brave Wilderness? (Sarcasm in the last sentence)

I just murdered one of these because I woke to the sounds of rustling plastic next to me. I've always been freaked out by these so called "Ipis bukid" / "Ararawan" (called in the Philippines) because they have these long pincer like appendages sticking out and it looks just downright weird. And back when I was a kid, my relatives would often say that these things will bite me hard. or go inside our ears and stuff. I immediately researched about it to see if it's venomous (Also to check if I can feed it to my Bearded Dragon). Saw this video and boom, it's suddenly CUTE to me now. Fear of the unknown, or fed with wrong information. But once you know what you're dealing with, the world is less scary. Thanks cayote~

5:52 was great lol! Your editor is perfect. The idea to include the part of Coyote breaking character was great, since we were all thinking "he didn't actually get the cricket to burrow into the sand fully" lol. Also, I noticed you guys have gone from about 1.3 million subscribers the last time I checked, to almost 4.5 million! In just a couple months! Congrats! Great job, keep up the good work :)

They are actually super quick diggers. I live in Western Australia and we get literally hundreds of these little guys and I like catching them. They can completely disappear underneath the sand in under 5 seconds! The ones we have here are a bit bigger than this one and they are darker. Also they are great to keep because they don't eat much. As long as they have soil, moisture and darkness they will survive for up to 4-6 months!

I had a mole cricket in my new Florida apartment one time and for years had no idea what it was and just referred to it as a "Satan Bug" due to its creepy appearance. Later on found out it was a mole cricket and have seen them twice since after heavy rains push them from underground. quite an interesting creature (:

It always still suprises me when people say they have never seen a mole cricket. They are harmless little critters. lol but when you were trying to get her to burrow I knew she was gonna run. lol they also hop like a real cricket. odd little buggers but super cool. you can find them everywhere in Orlando. Although I must admit I never knew they actually made noises. So even though I've seen many I never knew that was the sound they made. So thanks Coyote for teaching me something new about an old creature. 😉
