Its a very quik summary, but many queer teens like them because well.. the characters are young, and many lgbtq+ book characters are Adults. I recommend checking it out!

i’m aspiring to become a librarian and i work at a highschool as a substitute. My mother is an LMA there so i spend a lot of time working in there and helping the library folk out…it absolutely befuddles me how queer books are being banned and not allowed in the district…the entire A Court of Thorns and Roses series can be found in that library…which literally holds smut in almost every single book.

Thank you for sharing - I just checked out the AFT and its amazing work. Here is Sydney Australia we just had the first attempt at banning books in local libraries, when a local council voted to remove books about "rainbow families" from its shelves, to appease culutrally conservative parents. There were protests and community condemnation, including from the NSW Minister for the Arts, and the books were re-instated. It happened quickly too, less than 2 weeks. I am sure there will be many more incidents arising, as anti-diversity continues to rise. But for the moment I am grateful that the majority oif the community still reflects the values of tolerance and acceptance in which we can take pride. Thanks again for building awareness and giving your audience hope, support, and real actions they can take for change.

I feel like those types of books are trying to spread some sort of agenda. There are people who don’t believe in LGBTQ and sometimes it’s because of religion. My dad and I have been watching a lot about queer history, queercoding, and other content about the LGBTQ+ community because he and my mom are trying to figure out who they are as well as how to understand and support who I am. But then they ban all books with ANY LGBTQIA+ representation EVEN IF THEY *DON'T* have any sexual and erotic content. And then when they get called out on still having books with non queer NSFW content they use the excuse of "they have to learn about it sometime". Maybe if you TRULY CARED about sexual education, not only would you educate your students on the reproductive system, puberty, etc., but you would ALSO teach about sexual and romantic orientations OTHER than heterosexual and heteroromantic to help questioning youth figure their orientations out!

@Froggy22220 Don't put too much thought into it. Everyone wants to feel included, everyone wants to fit in but sexuality isn't a social club. It's literally just who you're attracted to. And since attraction is normally just between you and the person you're attracted to, it doesn't really need defining. Why does it matter about forming massive rules about what sexes you're attracted to. Just look at a person you like, am I attracted to them? Cool 😂

@@l00ser20 they truly don't need it. I have read Fyodor Dostoevsky and HP Lovecraft novels in my life which barely any hetero main protagonist or anything like that. All of them asexual dudes and all of them are extremely well written. I can also pull up Cormac McCarthy novels too but some of his characters are hetero but they are also purely philosophical.

Because books like Lawn Boy were being put in elementary/middle schools that were completely inappropriate for their age. Especially in a school setting no matter the race/gender/sexuality. There are many books like it that were also promoted. It’s a tricky subject. Also some book like To Kill A Mockingbird was getting banned. Crazy stuff

Yes, I’m ok with what I see here. As a queer person, it makes me feel warm and fuzzy to see someone being respectful to the queer community. Videos like this can mean a lot to queer people as, depending on where we live, we might not see that respect often in our day to day lives and it’s important to know that someone out there cares.

Yes, some books are not suitable for younger audiences. But these libraries will ban all LGBTQ+ books, with or without “inappropriate encounters”, and still have books crammed full of “inappropriate encounters” between heterosexuals available like it’s not the exact same thing.

I believe the parents' taxes pay for the school districts and they have the right to demand things from the schools. And I believe educators, queer or otherwise, should know better than to talk to elementary and middle schoolers about sex acts, gay or otherwise. How is that distorted?

And thus they shouldn’t have the final say. Also they’re banning books without any sort of graphic material in it. In fact I’m pretty sure they banned the book farenheit 451 which is a nice taste of irony. Keeping inappropriate things is important but the simple fact is. Inappropriate things are not the things getting banned. It’s whatever they don’t like.

@@Noxthesergal Well I realize that, and in situations where queer teens are being mistreated by their parents the authorities should obviously take action to protect them. But if we're talking about, say, a gay teen wanting to read the book "Call Me By Your Name" and his father says no, then I do not think the school should override it. As a parent you have a say over what you allow for your household; some kids can't play video games and others can't read Harry Potter. It's dumb but it's their right. People have a long-standing religious objection to homosexuality, it is part of their culture, and it is absolutely not the place of the government (i.e. the school) to decide what type of morals a child is taught. We the people have to create a more tolerant and loving culture, but forcing it down society's throat through the school system turns people away and absolutely hurts the LGBT community.

i never had the courage to look for lgbtq+ books in my school library. too late now as ive already graduated last year. for the past couple of years i have actually been trying to write my own books about both lgbtq+ and neurodivercity. because im bi, genderfluid and im autistic with adhd. i cant find the right books for me so i guess i should write my own. also if anyone has advice on queer or disabled writting please tell me cause i could really use some help here.

There was another book that went along the lines of oh sally wears boy clothes maybe she is truly a timmy and it scared me cause my lil sis plays with race cars . @luci5357 alright so let me put you in a position... alright you have a little boy named timmy. you go through about 4 years with him. Then he walks up to you and says "i want to be a girl". So then any good parent would say "no timmy you are an amazing little boy, so you don't need to be a girl". But if you were to say "of course timmy, you can be a girl, what should your new name be?" that is wrong everybody should be awere that you can't change who you are. And when parents except who he or she wants to be, that makes them think that they are excepted by everybody, and that is not true.

Do you think they support it? You don't need to if you don't feel comfortable yet, but if you think they support, then you can when you feel confident and comfortable enough. If they end up not supporting and you told them, then you can ask them why they don't support it and maybe try to help them see in a better way

Call and KZfaq disgruntled parents at LBGTQ books and listen to the parents own accounts of what they found in these books. I have watched about 20 videos of parents complaining about these books and each one of them has a small portion of sexual and explicit material in it not their own words quoting the books itself.

hey friend, people identifying with animals are often the result of social differences, feeling out of place and like they don’t relate to people. this often occurs because of conditions like autism, if a kid thought they were an animal id advise people to talk kindly and openly with them, but there’s no reason to stop the conversation altogether, particularly if they’re experiencing social differences. there’s plenty of books where characters transform into animals or other beings and they haven’t seemed to have an impact on people yet. hope this helps!

Considering that there’s only two different gametes which is what is typically the main classifier for $3x, it is often considered a mutation. Other times people won’t develop the way their chromosomes show that they should due to a disorder that causes their hormones to not be produced correctly. On the case of xxy chromosomes, that is still technically male as female chromosomes are not based off of having two Xs but rather a lack of a Y.

Sorry but not. Last time i checked all of those diversity books and inclusion ends up creting more segregation. Also, kids should not be exposed to this until they are old enough to make a conscious choice instead of pushing them to it just because they show a small trait based on any group. That is why you end up with a lot of detrasitioners with ruined lives.

one of the John green books (the one that keeps getting banned) has a oral sex scene in it which is why it keeps getting banned. The thing is that John wrote it in such a way that you can reflect the awkward and fumbling sex scene with the intimate and loving had holding scene in the next chapter. So by banning the book because it contains a sex scene means that their children won’t get to read about bad sex and good non sex which might have prevented them doing things too fast.

I mean yeah if it is a book with underage(which I consider as younger than 15, because it is the age of consent in my country) then yes do ban them. But books about colored people, LGBTQ and so on can be educational, and a lot of times it is not the main point of the story, so they should not be banned.
