Saving money is not that simple. There's so much more to the equation than just "stacking your coins". I noticed the money habits of the wealthiest people around me and I realized they were doing things I had never learned. Access to financial knowledge and stability is a privilege and many people, like myself, have to work harder for that knowledge often times by making money mistakes- especially when you don't come from money. I hope that you don't have to experience my mistakes and can take my word for it in this video lol. In this video I share several tips on money habits I wish someone had told me about. If you're new be sure to subscribe and comment a money habit that you'd like to try!

Nobody can become financially successful overnight. They put in background work but we tend to see the finished part. Fear is a dangerous component, hindering us from taking bold steps we need in other to reach our goals. you have to contend with inflation, recession, decisions from the Feds and all. I was able to increase my portfolio by $289k in months. You have to seek for help in the right places.

I've been putting off watching this video because I'm someone that has always been broke, struggling to make ends meet and when I did have the money to, I struggled to save because I wanted to splurge. It felt like I had this pressure to get rid of the money when I had it because if I had money, it meant I was forgetting about a bill that needed paying and led to a lot of internal panic. I've taken the initiative, however small, to finally watch this and it gave me a lot of "a-ha" moments. I grew up in a family that had either just enough money, or was on benefits and struggling to make ends meet. We had fear-based mentalities that I learned early on. "Stocks are bad", "stocks are risky", "people who invest in stocks will lose everything", "rich people are just lucky" and "money is bad". Having a single parent working part time, it was often that she had to go hungry to put food on the table for my sibling and I. This year I'm committing to things that scare me, and money has always scared me. This year I am working on removing the fear, and to finally achieve the level of freedom I want in life.

One huge thing that worked for me, is I had a really bad habit of online shopping because I didn't view my money on my debit card as real and tangible if that makes sense, so I took out my paychecks in cash, paid my bills and my left over for living was all cash. If I wanted to doordash or order something online, I had to physically go to a bank or ATM to put my money on my card, which usually was more effort than the thing I wanted at the moment

A good credit card trick - after making your budget, put those reoccuring bills (besides rent and car notes!) On your credit card. You are already going to pay them, mind as well get the point for them. (AMEX blue cash card gives you 3% cash back on all grocery stores) You wont have a balance and wont be charged interest because you'll already have the money budgeted for it. 🙂

Outsourcing in your personal life is also great advice! We have two German Shepherds (affectionately called German Shedders) and I was having to vacuum our two level house daily just so we didn’t have run away furballs on the flooring. I did this for 10 years before it occurred to me that a robot vacuum is expensive but how much money is my time worth?! I ended up stressed out that I needed to vacuum before I could relax enough to make dinner and a lot of the time I was moody while making dinner because I thought “why doesn’t my husband ever help vacuum!” Once we got a robot vacuum, dinner was more pleasant, no aggregation to my husband and I was freed up to tidy the home at a slow pace instead of the 2 hr Saturday sweeps.

Financial Advisors are generally most helpful if you have a windfall (taxes, lottery, inheritance) or your income has increased exponentially and you're in a different tax bracket. So much self help you can do BEFORE engaging one. 1) Read Personal Finance Books 2) Pay off consumer debt 3) Save 1-3 Months of Expenses. If that's too lofty of a goal...save $500 4) 401K or ROTH IRA (ETFs, Index Funds) Start small 5) Write down monthly goals. Review them daily Do Fee ONLY advisors. Advisors are supposed to be a fiduciary, giving you advice that's in YOUR best interest. A lot of them just hawk commission products or funds with heavy loads. They should have the ❤ of a teacher. They should never dismiss your concerns or talk down to you. Learn the language of finance. Strive to make progress everyday. Bankruptcy or debt consolidation are options of LAST resort.

Also be careful of financial advisors who aren’t formally educated in finance and accounting. Some of the financial advisors only have a background in sales and I’ll let you all use your critical thinking skills to figure that one out. If you choose an advisor who ends up costing you a lot of fees and they up sell you on a lot of different services you don’t actually need you won’t save a lot working with them. Research your companies well and just know a lot of the advise that some of the companies give you can be learned by doing your own research. I know this firsthand from a friend who became an advisor with no money background because he is good at just convincing people to buy products. And i also know some of the people who will tell you they didn’t realize his services weren’t really worth it in the long run and they wasted a lot of Time and money on his services.
@Mel-qr5ob

TLDR: Even just being a formally educated accountant isn't good enough for a financial advisor, without also having a good reviews from clients. My mum is a accountant and she's been poor and in debt the entire time I've been alive. Ever since I got my first job at 10 she's been "borrowing" money off me to fund things she can't actually afford. Like I already hear you say "maybe it could be a 'do as I say not as I do' thing" ... but shes never given me any good financial advice either. Even after I cut her off and stopped giving handouts she constantly pressures me to adopt her life style. "Get multiple credit cards and rotate which one you're paying back", "why not take loan for it?", "you can't afford to go to the movies again this week? why not! treat yourself!" etc Even just last week, we're in the middle of a housing crisis here in NZ, house prices are skyrocketing, and my mum was telling me "you should take a loan to get a house downpayment, then you can rent it out and the renters will pay the loans back 😊" like NO. That's the dumbest idea I ever heard. I'll be paying twice the interest, when house prices fall I'd be left with a house half the value I paid, and on top of that if I don't find tenants I'd be screwed and forced to take a THIRD loan to pay the repayments!!! And to top it all off, this is how I KNOW she got into debt in the first place. She took loans to pay her loan for the first house she bought, which she then sold at a loss before she'd finished repaying it... so she even knows from *experience* it's a bad idea and then she *still* recommended I do it. A accountant only has to learn to balance accounts and chase up customers for payment. They don't necessarily have good finance management skills and my mum DEFINITELY proves that.

Great video! General safety tip prior to getting a financial advisor though is learn about the fees they charge and compare the benefits of having a financial advisor against the potential consequences of trusting them with your money over the long term. Everyone should have a fiduciary advisor helping them but some financial advisors can rob you through fees and commissions so just be weary and make sure to educate yourself prior to making any large financial decisions. Check out the book Money Master the Game by Tony Robbins as a starting point to learning more about investing and income and the dangers to your financial future using some financial advisors.

Thanks! I was thinking of this. How do you manage a financial advisor when you don't know anything, because many can and so take advantage of people they know are beginners. Will check out this book.🤗

First thing I have from talking with mom that taught me the basic of money you need to live your on budget. Break out your income by percentages say if you live your life on this: Needs 20% Business 40% Bitcoin or cryptocurrency 1% or 5% Savings 30% Investments 15% or 19% Generosity 3% Donations 10% When you leave your life on a budget it makes your life easier to manage This is the way that I have learned throughout my life and still learning. I'm truly not the best in finance and I still have money problems as well throughout my personal and business.

LOVE this video, truly. Big believer or mindsets Tip from a full time editor: The reason you get a static pop like sound between every cut is because there is no 1-2 frame audio transition between every cut. There are many different ways to do this and apply it across a full edit in seconds. Would help the viewers speakers

Just tried to like this video twice. Will definitely be getting a financial advisor because of this video. In 2020 I started investing in stocks, and because of that, in Sept 2021 I was able to leave my Healthcare career, and study real estate full time to make this my new career. I'm proud that some of the things you mentioned in this video im already doing, but I definitely have some money traumas to work through as a black woman who didn't come from money as yourself. Thank you for sharing your knowledge. And you're gorgeous 😍

I think online banking does help a lot with budgeting and knowing your finances. When I was using a traditional bank, the money would flow out very quickly and I would have a hard time having money at the end of the month before another paycheck. After I started using online banking, especially since they allow notifications of how much you spent and how much you still have and their apps have a budget section, I was able to save enough for 2 months. We didn't learn it at school or through parents, we have to do it ourselves unfortunately.

It’s so crazy how knowledge that will truly help us succeed in life isn’t always a s readily available as it should be. Now at 25, after making so many money mistakes, I started working with a professional on getting more knowledgeable about finances so that I can reach my goals and help other people do the same. I know that the comments section can be a risky place, but life is too short not to take a chance, right? If you need one-on-one help to reach your goals, let me know and I’d be more than happy to help!

I appreciate that you are doing this. I'm financially stable and set for my old age but it took me a while to get the mindset right. I see so many young people not taking seriously their financial reality because they like immediate gratification and rocking that Gucci thing of the moment. Being financially stable is so sexy to me!

‘your mindset around money is important’ 💯 we often talk about the practical steps to get wealthy etc. but we don’t talk much about the mental/emotional part of achieving financial wealth, so thank you Bria for bringing this up! ‘what rich people won’t tell you is a lot of this is mental’ taking random notes: 1.1 rich people aren’t just saving their money, they are also strategically placing it to save & grow their money in their sleep 1.2 understand a bit that investing is important. don’t worry, there are a variety of styles of investing & getting a financial advisor can help you with what works for you etc. 1.3 budget! take note of where your money is going. it can be a simple practice. open excel sheet, write the total check you’re getting for the month. take care of the urgent, important, non-negotiable, bare minimum things first like bills, groceries.. things you need to live. then give yourself some fun money cause yes we need to socialise & have fun. if you spend too much money in fun, reevaluate how you can be more creative with your social/fun life 1.4 get creative with how you hangout with friends 1.5 yes outsourcing your work costs money but it’s an investment you’re making into yourself
