For me money is a tool. A tool to reach independence and freedom. Having the ability to not work 9-5, take care of your family, pay your parents back and just be free to travel somewhere if you feel like it. That’s what money can buy. You don’t have to think about going back, paying rent, etc. It’s just the feeling of don’t giving a f*** which is powerful. Materialistic things give you temporarily enjoyment, yes, but you’ll eventually get used to that. So that shouldn’t be your final goal.

Growing up in a very small county in Brazil sorrounded by the favelas, having my parents always telling me that we need to save money and we can't buy fancy things. And 20 years later my dad got into a very important business partnership with one the largest supermarket companies, we moved out to a 90 square meter apt to a two story house in a farily wealthy neighborhood. And now I've moved out of my house to live in Los Angeles by myself paying for my own bills and my parents facing the economic crisis in Brazil and my dad loosing his partnership with the supermarket corporation. I can say you're absolutely correct. I've gone through an insane amount of levels of financial status like a rollercoaster and money DOES make a huge difference in an individual's happiness. But as you also said, it enhances everything else like your own inner problems and the things you attract. So it's very important to have a good head on your shoulder when becoming wealthier. Thanks for all the great content!

Money does buy you happiness... my whole life is a lie Lol jokes aside, I think that the freedom that having money grants you is a very important reason that having money can make you happier. I used to really contemplate the study stating that incomes above $75k don't bring you more happiness but I couldn't exactly explain why I didn't believe that to be true. Hey Sebastian, you should look into something called Effective Altruism. It's something that I want to look into more as I earn more money, but the basic idea of it is maximizing the efficacy of doing good. I think a big part of what makes people happy is the fact that happiness spreads, and why not be deliberate about how we give to others and support good cause?

@lonkk1

The income is measured on a logarithmic scale. This means that happiness does not scale linearly with each dollar but rather as your income grows it will take larger amounts of additional income to gain an additional "unit" of happiness. This alone implies that there is a soft "plateau" in how much happiness additional income can buy.

Money absolutely makes you happy. With money you can do what you want, when you want. The primary concern for most peoply (other than health) is money and not having enough of it. Give anyone $10,000 and see if they feel better or worse. Rich people will tell you "money doesn't make you happy" - they're also very used to having money and the novelty has worn off for them to an extent. Obviously a billion dollars more might not make Elon Musk feel any better, but even a small amount of money can make a massive impact on most people's lives and relieve the pressures most of us face.
@Mansory811
@Mansory811 2 жыл бұрын
Bro, you are extremely Egoistic. You are saying it yourself, rich people say the money doesnt make them happy. So, in the longterm it actually doesnt make you happy. Maybe yeah, with much money you can have a good time short term, but on long term it wont fullfil you. Its lastly resulting to the same point, everyone wants true happiness, and money wont achieve you this.
@thehayboys
@thehayboys 2 жыл бұрын
@@Mansory811 Rich people lie too my friend. Why do they keep working then if money doesn't matter? Of course they're doing it for fulfillment, but they do the things they do in business to make money. If you have children, you want to bring them up the best way possible. Money can buy experiences that will stay with you for a life time. I agree that in the long term having money can become 'normal' and not as fun as it was because the novelty wears off. Everyone has problems - rich or poor, absolutely. Ask 100 people and almost all of them would tell you that having more money could solve a lot of their problems and help with stress. Of course money won't fulfill you 100%, but it is a huge enabler and allows you to live on your terms.

Then my income went past 75k and I was happier than ever! Crossing 6 figures was even better. Maybe if you have to work crazy hours in a job you don't like then 75k will be the happy money limit but Idk bc I like that job and the culture in that company. This could eventually be true, if you know how to spend the money and use it as a Tool to achieve happines (which is maybe in shortterm not hard, but in the long term). Also, a poor man can be happy. For example look at humans who live at the Coast in south Amerika, they dont complain, just life an ordinary happy life. Its the expectations that make you unhappy.

There's a massive problem with this study, which is the sampling itself. The users of this app are not randomly selected from the general population and it is therefore fallacious to extrapolate this data onto the overall population. While it may have good internal validity (how valid it measures the happiness of users of the app), it may not have good external validity (how well the results extrapolate to the general population). The type of people who use this app almost certainly do not perfectly represent the general population. Until there is more data using better randomized samples, I'd be very hesitant to believe this. BUT, I think what is worth noting is that we have plenty of existing research showing that life satisfaction does not plateau past $75k. And, generally, I think many people if not most would weigh life satisfaction over happiness.

Many people become rich because they’ve been motivated and happy and full of energy on the way up. So they are also rich because they feel better. So the level of happiness is higher for rich people, also because happy people become rich and miserable people stay poor, they don’t even find the time to become rich cause they worry about themselves

if you want something good to outlive you, I advise you to dig holes for water in countries in which having access to water is really difficult. You can also share knowledge and build schools, help somebody to be able to live from his job with dignity by helping him to afford machines necessary to do his job. This is some ways in Islam to do good and to let it be a legacy for you and your family which weighs huge on the scale for the Final Juddgement. Paying medicine for ill people or releasing somebody of his debts are also other benevolent ways. So please keep teaching us how WE CAN get rid of poverty.
