What exactly is Moneyball?
Well - it's incredibly hard to define a term that has taken a life of its own across multiple sports, but the term originates in Michael Lewis' coverage of Billy Beane's dramatic overhaul of the Oakland Athletic's in Major League baseball. Simply put, Moneyball has become a term used to describe a data-driven approach to recruitment and team decisions on the transfer market - leading to improved on-field results.
It's an overarching descriptor slapped onto a football club that isn't in line to buy the biggest stars, but relies on cheaper transfers - assuming that some kind of analysis is involved in recruitment.
And today's club is Football Club Nordsjælland, commonly known as FC Nordsjælland. Nordsjælland is a professional Danish football team from the North Zealand town of Farum. Founded as Farum Boldklub from the merger of the town's two football clubs Farum IK and Stavnsholt BK in 1991, the club changed its name to FC Nordsjælland in 2003.
In preparation for the 2011-12 season, the former Lyngby head coach brought in two Danish internationals in Mikkel Beckmann (from relegated Randers) and Patrick Mtiliga (on a free from Málaga). FCN sought to improve on the previous season's sixth-place finish and to defend its Danish Cup title for the second year running. It would go on to play in the Europa League for second year in a row, exiting the competition in the third qualifying round after losing to Sporting CP 2-1 aggregate, which had also eliminated Nordsjælland from Europe the previous season.
FCN started the new season in good form, peaking as high as second in the Superliga, and an undefeated run at home in all competitions until 30 October, including an impressive 0-0 draw with Portuguese side Sporting CP, making the start of the 2011-12 campaign one of its best starts in recent years. For the first time in club history, a total of five players were called up to the Denmark national team to face Sweden and Finland in November: Mikkel Beckmann, Andreas Bjelland and debutantes Tobias Mikkelsen, Jesper Hansen and Jores Okore. FCN ended the season as Superliga champions for the first time in its history
Our goal today, is to get this club back into the Superliga and then see how we get on in 5 seasons in this FM23 Rebuild!

I have always made content throughout my professional career, however, it has always been for someone else. In May 2020 I decided that it was time to create something for myself. @HoodGamingUK Love moneyball, but you didn't really explain why you bought each player, what stat made you buy them, what did you look for, just didn't see much of the moneyball side of things

quick tip if you are doing a moneyball save, save your game before the 24th of June ( the data tickover date) and save as a summer recruitment file and then you can see the data from the previous season on that file you can then recruit on the current save file but of the data from the previous season

5:10 In my Turkish save in FM22, I took a Turkish 3rd division side to top of the Turkish football , winning 6 league titles yet zero cup trophies. Then I left them for Liverpool, things didn’t go well, moved to Mainz, immediately won DFB Pokal

I love seeing Nordsjaelland pop up in my feed since I made them my team pf choice this year when I decided to try and build the Danish League up into a top 5 league in Europe. Looking forward to see how the video turns out

@HoodGamingUK I'm still going right now. I just started the 27-28 season. We've kinda stagnated at 10th in English coefficient right now, but I've only just started being really competitive in Europe (Had Bayern on the Brink of elimination in the knockout round and they went on to win it all). I'm trying to load up the B team right now to loan out to the teams that are always in the relegation phase. It's always 1 or 2 teams that are guaranteed 5th and 6th in the Championship Phase below me right now because us, København, Midtjylland, and Silkeborg are basically guaranteed. None of the other European teams are really pulling their weight right now so I'm hopping the loanes put to other teams either puts them in those spots or lights a fire under the other 3 teams to start getting out of the League Path in Champions League or making runs in the Europa League and the Conference League

Just started a save with FC Kobenhavn! My first transfer window also ended up snapping up James Gomez and swiped Diomande for my side. Great rebuild, the skin is really interesting! Cult of FM had a really nice long term Moneyball save this year with Paris FC, really recommend that for a full save if anyone is interested!

I think you should do rebuild for one from two big polish clubs in second division. Wisła Kraków is one of the most succesful clubs in Poland and Lechia Gdańsk in modern times became stable top division club who is fighting for qualifiers to european cup, but they got relegated this season.

I love this concept but not being able to look at historical statistical breakdowns really hampers true MONEYBALL. I suppose it could be adopted with a different skin where you ignore stars and look at stats and maybe attributes? Moneyball doesn't ignore things like speed, acceleration, strength it just doesn't make it the only criteria. If you find a striker for instance that has a good xG rating it's likely they have a good finishing/composure attributes so this concept with this suppressed version can be limiting in my opinion. Still a fun concept and as always a really good video.

Nordsjælland really doesn't need a rebuild. While the league history looks a bit shaky, the club has been doing consistently well since Right to Dream took over. But I guess the rebuild title helps with the algorithm. The MONEYBALL appropach is pretty interesting. It would have been cool to see the transfer decisions more in depth though. Minteh was signed for Newcastle, and Haraldsson was signed for Lille this summer by the way. All in all, interesting video, and I'll be checking out more of your vids.

In Scandinavian countries the level of English spoken is higher than in the uk itself.. That's also a big reason why English clubs buy from there also. No settling in period needed really

Finny thing about stats . I jave been using it for basketball . Using raptor and chatgpt to basically predict any match . I hope they introduce somethign like that in football. I would start betting

@@HoodGamingUK it's worked well especially psst round 2 of play offs . It predicted a miami heat and nuggets final . Chatgpt does its Job its just that your stats need to come from a good sauce

I really enjoy your content, and I can only imagine the time it takes to put into these so I feel bad about feeling this way but I really didn't enjoy this one. When you hyped the club up to start with I was all in, but the lack of attributes, not being able to see the reasoning/stats behind why you signed players and the skin itself just didn't make this video enjoyable, to the point I haven't finished watching as there was zero enjoyment. Attributeless skins don't make for fun rebuilds in my opinion. Hopefully the next one will be back to the old video-type as the Wolves DOF wasn't that enjoyable either. Sorry to be that guy.

Wanted to be able to get into this video so much because I too love the concept but the fact we had no insight into your transfers in and out (statistically etc) it just makes it a routine rebuild so switched off man. Lovely skin but.
