I took notice of this with women rappers. Rappers like Lil Kim,Foxy Brown and Lauryn Hill blew up around the sametime in the late 90's. Since that time we've seen more versions of Lil Kim and Foxy Brown and fewer versions of Lauryn Hill. Maybe it's because it's easier to find women rappers like Lil Kim? I mean,any woman can do what Lil Kim did. Lauryn Hill's thing was more creative/complex. So it may be harder to consistently find Lauryn Hill types that can also sell. This may account for why we hear so much of the samething when it comes to the current women rappers.

Now I'm in my 50's. It's very rare that we love artists like this. I'm Blessed to Still hear her on Atl station 104.1. My Sweetheart 💋😘. I'm sure that I'm older but she's still my inspiration ❤❤❤. She even kept Queen Latifah together but if course she never gotten credited for it. When you get so Famous and Big, you tend to leave certain people behind. But what goes around comes around 😢😮😂

Monie Love performed this song on In Living Color during its second season in 1990. This takes me back when I lived in Maryland during that time ('90-'91) when this song came out. At the 33rd Grammy Awards in 1991, "Monie in the Middle" was nominated for Best Rap Solo Performance, but lost to MC Hammer's "U Can't Touch This." The following year, in 1992 at the 34th Grammy Awards, she was nominated for Best Rap Solo Performance again for "It's a Shame (My Sister)" but lost to LL Cool J's "Mama Said Knock You Out."
