Hi Andrew I've not seen this tool before, reading on a forum you can use them on sheeted surfaces as well but you must roll with the grain and give a quick sand before covering, I'll look out for one, thanks for sharing. (PS New subscriber in the UK).

Great vid. Blue windex works great something in windex reacts with the adhesive. Still have to go over edges with a trim iron. good to see a fellow builder lol

I haven't covered a plane in years but I always used to use the Woodpecker over the stripe part before placing it on the wing (LOL). My memory may be mistaken but don't remember seeing the holes after it was ironed on. Never thought to pecker the wing itself.

WOW, does that look nice... Im a year & a half into flying medium to large foamies & gotten pretty good a clear laminate. But this is way beyond that, Very beautiful art. I have an illness that really holds me back, but one day im hoping to get into large balsa birds like this. Very nice!!

Awesome video and well explained. I admit i am not good at covering and i have a question. I have a P 47 that is about 10 years old and the Horizontal and vertical stabilizer are covered in black and yellow checkerboard. The clear film is beginning to lift from the checkerboard if i were to re cover the tail section do i have to cut the rudder and elevator surfaces at the hinges or can it be covered with them still hinged?

Nicely done, thanks for sharing. I have several woodpeckers but never used them. I'm the Windex squeegee person who forgets to iron on the stripes the next day because it does have some adhesion and I suffer from CRS. And yes it will come off after a flight or two 😣

Andy, when you cut the covering between the wing trailing endge and aileron leading end do cut it along the hinge line so it can be wrapped down over the wing TE and the ail LE...Thanks

I've watched a bunch of your videos.. Dang, you are way younger, than I imagined you being.. Definitely, a cool setup that you have.. I've been flying about 27 years now and have quite the collection myself.. I still have planes from when I first started, along with some of my first scratch build projects.. I'm also a builder.. It's very nice to be able to relate.. I've never gotten into modern planes and foam.. Not saying that they don't have their place, they've just never really excited me.. Great videos man.. I enjoy watching.. Do you ever find yourself building while having an Rc guy on KZfaq rambling in the background.. I kinda think that's how I managed to stumble across your channel.. KZfaq going on auto mode and me gluing my fingers together.. Much love brother!

Hi Andy. I see that you are using what appears to be Robart hinges for aileron attachment. Did you add any additional balsa stock inside the wing and aileron to give a stronger glue bond?

Hi Great instruction video, thanks..Question as the covering is done how do you fit the hinges for the aileron ?. I have been trying to buy a pecker but seems harder than finding one in a snow storm ?

Can you do a video starting from the beginning, cutting the monokote, template etx... if not, is cool as well. I applied some of your techniques and was able to do some basic stripes for now.

Long ago before the woodpecker tool existed I made a puncture tool to do the same thing. I stuck a bunch of T-pins through a small piece of plywood, glued them in from the top side and glued in a handle made from a piece of 1/4 sq spruce. Just poke poke poke in the outlined area. Tacked on the trim and ironed away.

you can also use 70 or 80% alcohol to remove the sharpie. A Healthy alternative. Old gym socks work well for a sealing iron cover too.

Very careful to cover it is better to put blue or white first?

Would it have been better to start with white Monocote first, then lay the blue over the white? That’s how paint is laid. Darker colors over light. No color transparency. Nice video and technic.

Why not just use white sticker sheet?

You made a video with the purpose of teaching others. It was hard to understand what you were saying with the radio, TV or what ever you want to call it playing in the background.

Now I feel stupid. I once did a Chipmunk and an Extra 300 and cut out the patterns with 1/4'' overhangs, and attached it as one sheet on glass. Then covered the plane with the as if it was one sheet. Far too much work it seems. Great information.

Thank you Andrew, Sweet looking airplane. I have found that white nail polish is good for touching up little booboo's . Carefully applied it hides very well. I'll also use clear nail polish to seal edges although monokote is not bad as ultracote for lifting. I have a couple of glow powered planes and lifting can be a problem as you well know.

And in a few days you have a nice wrinkled look, I don't care who puts that plastic wrap on it looks like Hell in the end (old school dope and fabric guy here) have had a total distaste for MonoKote since its inception in the 60's, laughed at it then and still do
