I make my monotypes using Akua Kolor Liquid Pigments which are slow drying, non-toxic, water based inks.

Agreed, that's an awfully big press with ALOT of layers for a relatively very small painting, could have easily just brayered over manually.

@@ArtWars314 I agree, Vikki. Still, I so love the aesthetic of saturated colors and a clean, crisp plate mark on the etching paper I use.

In this demo, I printed on BFK Rives paper using Plexiglas plates and Akua-Kolor Monotype Block Printing Inks (Water Based). I've also been printing monotypes the past couple of years using Akua-Kolor Intaglio Inks (Water Based). Both types of ink work well and clean up beautifully with rubbing alcohol, water and Bon Ami cleanser.

Eduardo, I use Akua Kolor water based inks, thinners, extenders, etc. All Akua Kolor products. Plus any brand of rubbing alcohol to clean my Plexiglas plates.

Akua Kolor which is a brand of water based (non-toxic) ink. Cleans easily with rubbing alcohol. No chemicals.

I print monotypes using mostly dry paper yet sometimes I dampened the paper with a wet sponge and sometimes immerse the paper in a tray of water then "dust" the paper slightly with paper towels. I love to experiment and monotypes provide endless opportunities to have fun in this way.

You do not need an etching press to print monotypes. Once you've created your image on the flat surface, simply put a piece of paper on the inked surface and rub the back of the paper evening with a wooden spoon or wooden rolling pin.

You can find this roll (brayer) in a craft or art supply store.

After the first couple of years of making, exhibiting and selling my monotypes in addition to working a full-time day job, I had to ask myself what I wanted as an artist. Financial success? Creative fulfillment? Both? I certainly wanted to defray the costs I was investing in my art making. Yet I also realized, for me, making art was never about money. If financial success was my priority, I would need to crank out the most profitable monotypes like a machine, and I certainly was not willing to do this. For me, creative success is all about experimenting and enjoying the process; the finished piece is secondary. In the studio, it's all about having fun. Fortunately, I had day jobs all my life and was able to earn a pension. This has given me the financial freedom to do what I want to do artistically. Sales are welcome, of course. Yet profit is not why I make art. I make art to expressing my creativity. The creative life is a good life. Priceless. I hope this answers your question, Valentina.
