47 years old. My daughter brought me into BTS through the Burn the Stage series on YT Red. Honestly, I don't think I would have been so drawn in by the music, just because I've always had a prejudice against pop music (like you were saying). Even in the 80s when I was in high school, I hated "boy bands". I only even watched the series because I wanted to connect with my daughter. But, the more I got to know the boys (men), the more open minded I became. Now, I think I am a bigger fan than my daughter. As she points out, she is 16 and her attention span is limited...Also, she is multi fandom, so she has more things to keep up with. I don't have the energy to really get into any other groups, and, like I said, my biggest attraction to BTS is the guys themselves. But, to illustrate my devotion, my wallpaper on my phone is the Maknae Line! I love these men as if they were my children, but I am still sometimes blown away by their looks and stage presence. It is a little confusing and conflicted, but it is what it is! OT7 ARMY MOM FOR LIFE!

Hi, I'm a 56 years old Italian mom. I've had a classical music education and I've played violin for a few years. I also listen to the Beatles, the Queen, the Pink Floyd, some Italian singers-songwriters whose lyrics are true poetry. BTS's music is made with the same attention and creativity as Mozart's or Vivaldi's and so on. Good music is always good music. The song that made me fall in love with them is a lesser known one, "Whalien 52". It made me Cry.

I’m a 48 year old mom of 3. My (at the time) 14 year old daughter got me into BTS. I was NOT happy about it, but I thought it would be a good way for her and I to bond during those teenage years. Now, she begs me to turn them off LOL. Of course now I’m the cool mom with her friends who are KPop fans. I take them all over to concerts. Not just BTS concerts. They love all KPop and frankly it is such a Great genre of music. It’s clean, fun, and it bops. I teach BTS in school. I teach third grade and kids need to hear the Messages. I use their anti-bullying campaign. I use their early songs to get my students to learn that no one can run your life but you. It’s great stuff. I will always be a BTS fan. There’s no one like them.

I'm 43 y/o and became ARMY almost 3 years ago. I saw them perform on an awards show, and was immediately drawn in by their talent and stage presence. I, like a lot of people, have a pretty diverse taste in music. But no matter the genre I've always loved artists who really get out there to put on a show and PERFORM! And the more I learned about them, the more of a fan I became. For awhile I was convinced I was the oldest living BTS fan, and kept it to myself.😂 Now of course I know that's not true, and have connected with so many fans of all ages, races, ethnicites, etc. 💜

i think a lot of boy bands and boy groups (not only in the Kpop genre) are enjoyed by a far more diverse audience than we think. It's just that they're not as vocal about their interests. It's not exactly normal for individuals over 50 to make fan accounts on social media, that's more of a thing millennials and younger generations do. As a 17 y/o female myself, i hope we one day break the stereotype that boy group music (specifically pop) is strictly catered to a young, female audience. I mean that just ain't true.

Loving your BTS series :) As for the question of Kpop as a genre... if you watch the BTS Grammy interview of 2019, SUGA says that he feels that Kpop, rather than a genre, it is integrated content which includes the music, the clothes, the makeup, & the choreo. All of which amalgamate together into a visual and auditory package. Also I’m an ARMY mom :) Those boys mean the world to me. They are so humble, so genuine & they have such a beautiful message. ARMY for life right here

I'm over 40, have no children and love this group. I try to restrain myself from talking about BTS because I think I'm too old to like these kinds of groups. HOWEVER, their music makes me happy. I don't want people to shame me for liking this group because people have the notion (something that I'm grappling with) that you have to be a certain age in order to like certain things. I'm glad that I'm not the only one who likes this group within my age range. I was excited to hear about their BANG BANG Con... :). Their music is really good and I also like their overall message and storytelling.

I enjoy your reactions Monq, and glad to be a temple member. I am a 52yo who found BTS last year in Feb'19. I was heavy into K-Drama since 2013 so I was more familiar with drama OSTs and ballads. Studied Korean language for a couple of years so I do a lot of karaoke to practice my reading of Hangul. I only wanted to update my driving playlist so I went to youtube to look up videos like 'most iconic K songs/artists'. I would give the songs a listen and if I liked it, it went on the playlist. I was so surprised that I had already downloaded 50 BTS songs and that there were still many of their songs to try out so I thought wow this is a really good consistent artist. That's when I started to research on them and got to appreciate them even more. Opened a twitter account to keep up with them and had to google how to use it, lol. In the beginning I didn't want to disclose my age on social media, and esp. since I was a very senior expat executive in a multinational company before I took early retirement there was a kind of image i felt i had to uphold (sigh). I also once saw some fans bully older Armys on twitter. But then I thought that I should speak up for representation and to encourage other older fans as well. Glad to know there are many of us who are 30+ and that in fact the teenagers are the minority coz it helps to reshape the general public's impression of Army.

If someone is asking me what music I am listening to, I say k-music. If they make fun of me..... I don't care ;) And if they were asking me, why I would listen to this stuff? My answer is this: It's definitly 10x better than this so called music where they sing about big b**bs, drugs and how many cars they drive or broken hearts over and over. I'm 38 and my bias is SUGA but I like a bunch of other groups also.

Lol, a few months ago I was having dinner with my sister at a sushi place and they played like 4 or 5 BTS songs while we ate. I kept turning to her and saying that's BTS, it was the first time I had hear BTS played somewhere. It's only been about a year since I started listening and learning about BTS, so sometimes I wonder if it's okay for me to call myself an ARMY. But I think that's one of the things BTS is helping me with, to feel comfortable expressing myself and start listening to my own voice instead of worrying about what others think of me. Thank you MONQ, for this reaction! Could you react to BTS Crash Course 2020 by Suga & Spice!!!

Actually in SK, this is called Idol music. K-pop in SK is a genre like our Pop music where they have many different things under that umbrella. In SK, it covers k-ballads, k-indie etc. It's only in the West that they call the music k-pop and they tend to use it as a derogatory. Yep, I even follow some great ARMY dads. In fact one is retired US ARMY and he does fun videos with his daughter to BTS music. Another has a YT channel, he's KPOPDad kzfaq.info/love/SCj6kvICvuZpWLD0w_kKDQ. He and his girls are ARMY, I don't think they got mom into them but he vlogs all time when going to the concerts or a merch store. He's quite funny.

I'm 43, not a mom, got into BTS with BST, have been to two shows (and planning to go to day one and two in Toronto), BTS music is first to draw you in, then the lyrics and there personally (Hoseok is my bias, the rest are wreckers) Run episodes are the best, like they were saying, it is very disappointing about radio, one radio station does play them in Toronto, Boy with Luv got more radio play but they at least add them to the Saturday night mix (i believe the DJ is an ARMY), there was a recent article that talked about why BTS was not on the radio nowthisnews.com/pop/radio-why-wont-you-play-bts so many of us just use Spoifty, Amazon Music or Apple Music to listen to music, of course on same week about the radio play you also get this www.forbes.com/sites/hughmcintyre/2020/04/02/bts-ties-kenny-rogers-and-the-beatles-for-the-most-bestselling-albums-this-week/ also you may learn a lot of ARMY does’t stan other groups but they are casul listerns (which is sometimes a bone of contention between twt stains)

In the Love Yourself Tour (2018), they had to add a date at the Staples Center in L.A. (where the Lakers play). So that was a total of 4 nights in L.A. I believe their set list had like 28 songs, which is insane. They work so dang hard. For 2020 Map of the Soul Tour, the two Rose Bowl nights were sold out pretty fast I believe. So a third night was added. To gain perspective, one night at the Rose Bowl equals about over 3x the capacity of one Staples Center show. To me, I think we get sold out here more easily not just be cause of SoCal army, but I think out-of-state fans want to travel here to LA for the Rose Bowl show. I assume it’s like an exciting/mini-vacation for people? Anyway, so 3 nights at the Rose Bowl and the rest of the North American shows have been postponed and will be rescheduled when timing is right with our current situation where we need to continue to social distance and stay at home.

BTS music can appeal to anyone. I'm a 19 year old Indian girl, with a 25 year old sister who also loves them (and other korean music). My dad, sister and I were sitting in the living room and had just flipped on the music channel for background noise when MIC Drop started playing. My sister and I started dancing and jamming out, and my dad (who is a stickler for classical Indian music) jammed out and danced along with us. He even said that he liked the song. We were so surprised because he usually dismisses my sister and I's taste in music, but I guess BTS just does that to ya.

BTS is just on a whole different level altogether. They simply stand on their own in terms of music production, etc. Yes, ARMYs come in all different backgrounds, ages, etc. I only signed up on Twitter to follow BTS and the fandom. I’m not up there in the army dad army mom squad, so idk what that whole experience is like. But even before BTS debuted I got interested in kpop thanks to a song I happened to hear in a korean movie in like 2006-2007. So here I was a 16-17 year old black girl in the inner city listening to Big Bang, Wonder Girls, Epik High, shinee, Rain etc. every time I would try to introduce my friends and peers at school to the music I liked from Korea they would just scoff or make fun of it. They never understood. It wasn’t until I really got into BTS in 2014 (mainly because their message I was going through a really hard time and their song tomorrow really comforted me) that I guess I stopped being embarrassed of liking kpop. I would proudly play BTS around friends and family. I told everyone I knew about them. Recommended their songs and discussed the meanings behind them. I had so much faith and confidence in BTS musicality that I began not caring about what others thought anymore.

I love that you go over this stereotypical driven label that the term "Kpop" brings with it. I think there are a lot of people who don't know how this label is perceived to those outside of this community. However, for those who have been here for a while and have experienced the stigma and have seen the way that this label is used we should be the ones that stop using it. This is indeed a blanket term and instead of a name for "Korean pop" has become a way to label all Korean music as its own genre. And by doing so creates a division between music instead of doing what music should do and bridge the gap between cultures for the music as an art form. Because Music/ Art is a universal language and form of expression.

@@xyg2788 Exactly. I was bright up with those perceptions and didn't learn until later on, and even then they were hard to get rid of. Thank you so much for your kind words and comments also. 🌟🙏🏾⛩️😁

I feel that people generally think of liking "boy bands" is sexual... most typical boy band songs are about making the listener desire the singer ... or something like that.. By the way I am a 56 year old A .R.M.Y . 💜😉

EXACTLY and I know because I felt that because I was a HipHop head that it was a guilty pleasure. Like almost being ashamed to let people know that I listened to it. Now I'm older I just say EFIT lol this music is good I don't care what Anyone says. 🕉️☮️🙏🏾😁⛩️💪🏾

I really hate that they label me because im a teenage girl so i would be attracted to their looks, but I swear even if im an old man or has never seen their faces, their music is good enough for be to be a fan.

@@MONQTVI normally watch BTS reactions from the reactor's first BTS reaction to their latest. Because I want to see the journey of how they changed people's pre-conceived notions. I wanna know which particular video changed their minds, it's like re discovering them for the first time again. However I could not find your first encounter with them ... The Blood Sweat and Tears. Timeline does not matter to me anyway, because I just became a BTS ARMY this year. Yes, I became a fan during their hiatus and after missing out on their 10 year career. So I've been binge watching their contents and their whole life career, and what went down based on their history because even though I was indifferent about Kpop I do know there was a massive BTS hate train on my country about 7-8 years ago. The Halyu era. I used to avoid them, and Kpop in general because I thought they were superficial. Had I known that they were an anomaly in the industry, has profound lyrics and started from zero. I would have became a fan of theirs 7 years ago. But I'm not ashamed to admit that I probably wasn't smart nor mature enough to decipher their songs back then. They guys write profound as hell, and with multiple layers. They also gave me new respect for hip-hop since they love and respect that culture too much that I learned a lot of jargons that I probably wouldn't have known without BTS, I learned what Bars mean, beat, cadence, flow, goat. And how Hip-hop is not an easthetic it has a rich history and culture. And the OG's of Hip-hop. I literally learned a lot about the music industry, history in South Korea, their government, school system. I learned about psychology. Heals my depression and anxiety.

I don't know if you read comments to older videos, but i'd reckon this isn't That old? I also wonder if someone told you already, but they originally had two dates for Europe on Speak Yourself tour, one for Wembley, which they sold out in hours, and Stade de France in France, which I went to. Because both sold out, they added two more dates, one for both. I went on both French dates :D It was the best two evenings of my life, right there.

Enjoyed the video so much. I'm 32, 33 this year, and i sometimes feel quite old in the group chats in my country. I'm some seven years too young for the older armys' chat room :D

@@MONQTV sorry, this reply kinda got buried under everything. I was just cleaning out my email inbox and found a notif for this :D Bts is ingredible live. The first day we had seats close to the stage, but in the side wing and super high up. Couldn't see the main stage at all, and it was cold due to a stormy wind. JK couldn't fly the first day because of it. We got to experience halsey on stage with them, it was amazing, and the army bomb ocean, the light show everything. There really isn't a bad seat in a bts concert. The performance warmed us up fast too. the second day we were a lot further away, at the far end of the stadium, but relatively in the middle and almost ground level. Had to use binoculars to see their faces, but the atmosphere was everything. everyone was dancing and jumping and singing. They weren't close to us but we could feels their effect all around the place. I'm glad we went twice, because while the songs were the same, the boys made both experiences unique. if you ever have the chance to see them live, i recommend going. :) It's like, once you get used to the bts's huge energy, and the way it's multiplied in an arena full of armys, it's hard to not to feel like something is lacking, until you get there again and get to experience it again.

There is a very informative series by KZfaq channel bby gang about K-pop and our conceptions about whether it. Two videos in particular are well-researched - You're Wrong About K-Pop BTS vs K-pop Both videos are worth a look. I would be very interested to see the feedback on either video in your comment section. I think that you would find them enlightening and entertaining. Btw I am 68.
