I've owned the 52" Z6 for ~7 months, and I've loved the machine. My house is on 1.6 acres of mowable grass, and I have no issue cutting it twice on one charge with a 3.5" cut. I use the grass bagger attachment, and if I cut the grass weekly, I can cut the whole lawn and only empty the bagged clippings twice. The high lift blades really do a good job sucking up all the clippings and mulching them very finely. My front yard is well beyond a 15 degree slope and I've had no issue mowing it with the z6. Mowing up-and-down or side-to-side is no problem. The grass bagging kit comes with 2 weights for the front end, and I think that helps with slope performance. I've also driven a zero turn for 25+ years, so I've gotten used to properly angling them for horizontal hillside cutting. You can use zero turns on most slope angles- you just need to practice. Years 1-4 I was sideway-skiing into everything when on a slope. I'll never forget sliding into a metal dog water bowl and getting the bowl hung in the grass discharge while bending a mowing blade on an old Yard King. Dad wasn't happy. Yard slope shouldn't be the deciding factor for getting a zero turn or not if you're willing to practice. I use the trailer hitch to pull a lawn broadcaster and a haul-trailer for bags of mulch. Have had no issue pulling a trailer with 500lbs of bagged bark chips up hill- can't really even feel the extra weight with the motor torque. So far I don't have any complaints. I have many many Ego tools and being able to use the 12Ah batteries with them has been great- I use the Ego battery backpack to wear the big 12Ah battery like a backpack and then connect the backpack to the tool using a super lightweight cable. Gives me all day tool battery life from 1 of the 12Ah batteries without wearing my arms out with an unbalanced tool....the 12Ah batteries are pretty dang heavy. Great system and I have never had any issues with any of my Ego tools.

Very thorough review as usual. I own several EGO tools, push mower, weed wacker, edger, blower pack, pole saw and hedge trimmer. The stuff is amazing. NO MORE gas to deal with or tune ups. At $7k if you consider no longer having to deal with gas, paying for tune ups, and down time, the price isn’t terrible. The guy at the local Lowes told me they sold over 40 of the 42” version ($6k). Just a matter of time before I get one. SMART move EGO to send it to this guy!

I have had my EGO push mower since 2018 and it has held up very well. Never had a problem with and cuts very well. I do raise it to the max when cutting thicker or wet grass. I have the string trimmer as well and works great. The pole saw attachment I would say is the worst performing. It could be user error though. My dad (lifetime landscaper) was skeptical about electric till he saw how well it was doing. Now at home he has switched to all electric equipment.

I have the original 42" and about 2.5 acres to mow, i always manage to finish. Just got it back from service for a failed pcb. Ego warranty is 5y so it was covered. I also had a flat front tire and they sent out a new one pretty quickly. Now as for power, during the week it was being serviced I used my neighbor's cadet zt and the power difference is immense. Gas easily knocks down 3' grass, the z6 will need to do that slowly and will still get stuck often. Edit: I've got 40h on it so far, I use the hitch to pull a small dump trailer around for yard work and garbage day

Ego needs to do package deals where you pick out the batteries you want OR a 42" with 12Ah batteries either 4x or 6x. I wanted the 52" because of all 6x12Ah but 52" is a little too big for the lawns we do. Happy with the 42" but it could easily come with 12Ah batteries as an option.

In addition to the belt for the deck, you would also be doing away with 3 deck spindles. There's no "transmission" as such on a zero turn, but you would be doing away with 2 wheel motors ($600/each for my machine), two hydraulic pumps, and a large fluid reservoir. With nearly 20 years on my mower, I am very interested in an electric replacement!

That surprised me as well. I love my 21" Ego. The only downside I've found is that the blades spin at a ridiculously high RPM compared to a gas mower. That means if you hit a large rock or tree root it's almost certain that the blades are getting bent up.

@@HawkGTboy really! And I was wondering if it went slower, and maybe that’s why it doesn’t a,ways cut cleanly haha. I sharpen a lot. Which is also way easier than a gas mower, since tilting it up on its ass is so easy.

@@BenNawrath I noticed that as well, that it seems to miss grass on the edges of the blades reach. You only really notice it if the grass was long before you cut it. It ate up some super tall grass that I hadn’t cut in more than a month. On the last segment of my back yard, I went until the battery light turned red. As a lawn mowing business owner/operator I love the battery option….in theory. I cut grass 5 days per week most work days are 6 to 7 hours of cutting. It’s the cost of battery powered zero turn mowers. The 52” is a possible work horse, but at $6500 plus for the EGO and not long enough run time for my work day, it’s a no go. The Toro revolution zero turn mowers are more appropriate for my job, but at $30,000…..it will never happen for my company, I love the environment but I have to make a profit.

I have a Ryobi RM480e that I bought on Facebook Marketplace for $1500, retail was $2800+tax at the time. I've been using it for almost 3 years and I absolutely love not having to ever go get gas or do any other maintenance to it other than the blades and make sure the tires have air. I do wish the mower motors were stronger because I don't like making multiple passes and I cut my lawn a little low. I also wish I had an AWD model because I get stuck in my swale sometimes lol. It's rated at 2 acres and I have only a 1/4 acre but I have tested not charging it and I have easily gotten 7 cuts out of that and it would die on the 8th cut. Highly recommend going electric for a mower.

You are completely WRONG. You never have to replace a batteries on an electric car. Studies, data and measurements clearly shows that batteries in electric cars degrade only 1 do 1.5 % per year. That means that after 20 years of use you would still have 70 to 80 % of original range when the car was new! Also even if you had very rare case when one cell in the battery go bad, you can fix just that one cell for $100. Also the batteries now are only 120$ per 1 kWh. But don't worry about it, because 10 year old Tesla still have 90 % or their original capacity.

Was just in the market for a new mower and was really considering an EGO ZT (I have many of their other lawn power equipment and really love the convenience). For me, the one thing that turned me away from this is that the batteries are only graded to last 3-5 years when you read their instruction manual. Sure you don't pay for gas or upkeep, but that's a huge cost to replace all six batteries when they start to go. Not to mention, who knows if the battery life/strength is maintained through all of those years. I'm definitely interested in this technology in the future, but still feel there's much to be proven

I have to say it's definitely a cool looking mower, but I'd personally never pay that much for a electric mower.. I'll always stick to my gas lawn tractor. So I've had my Tractor for over 30 years, I honestly don't think this EGO will last no where near that long. So $6000 they can keep it!!!! I still loved the review. Thank you for sharing

Pretty much any gas zero turn today is going to run you $5500. So you are only paying $50-80 more. And you'll save that much in gas the first season. And I don't see why it wouldn't last, motors would be easy to replace, the battery packs are replacable, much simpler mechanically, no belts to wear out, no hoses, just electric wires.
@garyalensr
@garyalensr 2 жыл бұрын
@@kdrapertrucker I'm saying I don't see this electric mower lasting over 30 yrs like the mowers made back in the day, mowers made today are not anywhere near the build quality as the older ones where. @SilverCymbal
@SilverCymbal 2 жыл бұрын
Now adays I wouldn't expect anything to last that long, sad but true. Old fridges lasted 20 years or more. They now tell me the average new one will last 8-10 years!. But in terms of this mower, I can't speak for the machine itself, but the batteries should last at 100% capacity for about 11 years before needing replacing if used for mowing. This assumes 6 months of mowing a year once a week, charging every other week. Even after 11 years they will still work but will not hold as long of a charge. For motors, etc I can't say but Ego stuff seems very well reviewed.

One thing to note about direct drive blades vs belt driven, when cutting in tough stuff, the momentum of the other blades in a belt drive helps with getting the blade through the tough stuff. In direct drive, each blade is on its own. Other than that, this seems like an option I am looking at seriously.

The 12Ah EGO batteries sell for $549 at Ace hardware, and $599 at Lowes, so for six of them, even if we assume a bulk rate of $500 per, that's $3,000 of the total price in batteries alone, which really brings the cost of the mower itself down quite a bit.
