When it comes to arowana the african butterfly fish and golden wonder killifish work well, for bichirs/eels kuhli loaches, for large gobies you can get bumblebee gobies, for pufferfish you can get the pea puffer or figure 8 puffer, for oscars and other large cichlids you can go for convict cichlids, for red tail catfish you can go for a gulper catfish (around 10-12 inches), for a shark/pike cichlid you can get a dwarf pike cichlid, for archer fish you can go for burmese clouded archer fish (only hits 6 inches). Sorry if any of these have been said or not

A perfect alternative to the goonch catfish (if you don’t want the alternative to have that same ferocious catfish appetite) is the chameleon Pleco. Very similar appearance with the flattened wide head except obviously being a Pleco it’s actually algae eater or scavenging for various food scraps.. I’ve heard they only get around 10 inches which is a good size for a Pleco.. if you wanted to go even smaller with same appearance you could do whiptail or farlowella catfish!

There are a number of dwarf pike cichlids (e.g. Crenicichla compressiceps) that would be a good alternative to snakeheads, but they aren't the easiest fish to find. If you want something similar in appearance to your Peacock Bass, there are several Haplochromines that fit the bill, Haplochromis CH44 comes to mind.

the 3 main species of bullhead are great species to keep ..yellow bullhead (have one myself) brown bullhead and black bullhead. they arent tiny fish but not big whatsoever. perfect for someone wanting that big cat behaviour and they are MILES hardier than the raphael catfish (which tend to have pretty weak immune systems imo) some online and urban pet shops sell these fish but you might have to Net one or catch it on rod and reel (they are in new zealand and the united states) (barbless hooks is the best option if you wanna go the way of rod and reel.)(( which truly isnt as dangerous as it seems) )

I know I am over a year late but a good alternative for the peacock bass would be sunfish! (Bluegill, Green) They have the same appearance as the bass and have the same predatory behavior as them. Sunfish even come from the same family as Largemouth and Smallmouth Bass.

Bichirs would be a better alternative to Snakeheads instead of wild-form bettas. They're actually somewhat related to snakeheads and have similar behaviors, but they generally don't get nearly as big. Granted, they're still decently sized fish, getting to around 8 to 12 inches long, but they're still far more manageable... and far more legal than their larger relatives.

So with the peacock gudgeon you talked about, the first picture you showed was of a purple spotted gudgeon. The peacock gudgeon only grows to 2 inches approximately whereas the purple spotted gudgeon can exceed 6 inches and is much more of a predator. If you want a solo fish check out (Chichlasoma Grammodes) or “Mini-Dovii” they are highly aggressive and territorial but only grow to about 10-12 inches with females being smaller. They look and behave identical to Dovii’s hence the nickname, but are extremely slow growers and skittish as juveniles but adults are crazy and have a lot of colors and personality. I would not keep them with other cichlids in a 75 Gallon because they will claim the entire tank and try to kill everything else once they reach 4-6 inches
