Having watched the anime myself, I thought it was weird how they used original names of monsters too for the dub. But then it got weirder half way through the series...

"Rioreusu" actually very much does have a lion motif! As the "King of the Skies", Rathalos is like the lion being the king of the jungle. And with that, Tigrex is a counterpart to him, having an opposing tiger motif. Granted, Rathalos's lion motif is only thematic and not as prominent as tigers and Tigrex.

I think the "Lio" in Liolaeus might be the lion assosiation because lions are tend to be associated with royality, kings, queens etc... Probably why its named that way.

Man, Khezu and Gigginox look different from how I remember. I know the models get updated sometimes between games but DANG! In defense of their treatment of the Tigrex, what else are they supposed to do? Drag it's unconscious body off somewhere? They won't kill it, since they're not Hunters, and it's a freaking TIGREX, so they can't just leave it.

and lore wise all of the hostile small monster are lethal to non hunters/riders so large monsters are disaster unless espinas which is seen as a boon because other monster don't fight that kills kushalasha for fun or something

The stupid thing involving using the Japanise names is that part way though the anime, they suddenly changed to the english names. It was rather jarring from going from one to the other.

This anime never made any sense to me, why make a show that demonises the source material so much, it would be like the pokemon anime being all about how pokemon trainers are horrible people to be despised and pokemon should be left alone and never interfered with, it boggles my mind, “we have this successful franchise where the core mechanic is hunting monsters, it would be great if we could make an anime adaptation about it” “yeh great idea, let’s have it were the hunters are viewed as ignorant evil people and that the right way to interact with the monsters in our franchise is to make them into pets” “yeh nothing pushes sales like calling your fan base ignorant douchebags for enjoying the game we made then pulled a 180 on”
