The Wessex Division were to spearhead operation Bluecoat, but the VIII Corp took the lead. The Wessex division and the 13th/18th Hussars did take Mont PInçon on the 7th August.

Thank you for your detail coverage. My father was leading a troop unit in the A Squadron of the 13/18 Hussars. His DD sank just before the beach, Unfortunately they had to come in under their own power from the 5km instead of the 2km offshore. I am taking my children to Lion-sur-Mer to visit the memorial site this year to pass down dad's history.

Lt Sydney Jary's war diary book is a really good account of the Wessex's fight in Normandy, including Mt Pincon. He claims that the German's referred to 43rd Wessex as 'The British SS Division'

@@WalkingDday I guess it was. Toughness and perseverance like the Waffen SS. I don't think 43rd Wessex was ever accused of atrocities - Oradour sur Glane, that sort of thing.
