I agree with your slide choice I know a few people that have had lots of trouble with cable drive right from new I have rack and pinion on my unit and it’s been great I clean and lubricate it every fall and that’s it, it just works every time

Hydraulic are considered stronger which is why they are used in high end units with full wall slides. However, they are a lot harder to deal with if they fail.

I bought a brand new GD trailer (2850MK) in May of this year. On our first trip with it in early July one of the wheels came right off. The problem? No grease on the wheel bearings. Fast forward to now.. our trailer is stranded at an independent dealer 5 hours from my home. GD has played silly buggers with us all summer, ruining it in the process. I cannot, in good conscience, recommend their product from both quality or especially a customer service perspective.

That Montana High Country would look good behind a Silverado High Country in the High Country 👍

Looking forward to the same sort of comparison with Grand Design products, and perhaps head to head with GD and Montana. Right now I'm dreaming of a GD Solitude S-Class 2930 RL and maybe a Ram 3500 single rear wheel to pull it with...but gas or diesel hmmmm maybe gas for higher payload?

Not to mention long bed or short bed... decisions decisions. You've pretty well sold me on a Reese Goose box though.

I've had to fix some hydraulic leaks on my montana. So if it does have hydraulics, the rack and pinion slides have hydraulic rams as well. I had one hose develop a hole and a ram on a slide had a leak in the o ring. Honestly the hardest part is finding the leaks. That and getting the underbelly down. The underbelly is actually the hardest part... as far as fixing it you just have to put the camper on a truck and pull all the hydraulics in. It takes the pressure off. You just need a 9/16 wrench to take any hydraulic line off. You have to take your old hose to a hydraulic shop and get a new one made. They have to see it to make one because as the guy said to me "theres no standard in hydraulics." Actually bolting the new stuff in isnt hard. As far as bleeding air from the system, you dont have to do anything other than run the things in and out, because air will move past the o-rings. I do think electric motors would be easier though. But hey if you get a flat tire those hydraulic feet can, do, and will pick the tires up off the ground in a hurry.

You failed to talk about the slide boxes one of the most important features that's different. The Montana has a laminated slide box with block foam insulation and the HC isn't laminated and used batt insulation. Overall, Grand Design Solitude is my choice.

@@BigTruckBigRV The one in your video doesn't. Go thump on the sidewalk its not laminated. The HC is designed to be a lighter weight 5th wheel.

Depending on what your willingness to spend, there are a few brands that are better built, Luxe, DRV and Redwood to name a few. They are heavier then most. If my memory serves me correctly the DRV Fullhouse model toyhauler weights in about 24k. So would require I very big truck to pull it. Good luck in your research, hope this gives you a starting point.

You would think the high country would be the luxury model. But I guess they took the land rover approach, making their flagship the range rover and all the cheaper models the range rover ___

Riverstone is a nice rig but a bit much for my first. Don't need anything fancy, just me and the dog. Got time to upgrade before my first long haul. Main reason on doing the full time thing is I don't need more than that to live happily. Won't be traveling alot but my first trip will be from West Texas to Nashville

South Texas Small Business and more! No way. You’re going to be fine but be conscious of pin weight in relation to your Payload. You might have to find some half ton designated 5ers but don’t let that bother you. Lower pin weights and great units. What’s your Payload on your door?
