One thing I loved about the 90s compared to now, the receivers today celebrate more for making a routine, first down catch than receivers celebrated then for scoring a TD.

@davidroberts7282
@davidroberts7282 2 жыл бұрын
It's a miracle you didnt lose this game, because Pittsburgh had forced a 3-and-out with less then 3:30 left in the 4th quarter and a wiser, smarter set of offensive plays from the Steelers OC wouldve given them just another set of downs and ice'd the game away. Even in forcing a punt, if Chiefs vaunted special teams don't cause a blocked punt, Montana doesn't have enough room or momentum to drive the Chiefs down the shortened to tie the game, send it into OT, and thankfully made the GW-winning FG this time. I think this contest is a microcosm of how Marty Schottenheimer micromanaged his teams' so badly and methodically that even when he had great teams for all those years in Cleveland and Kansas City, smarter, more instinctive better game-day HC's always seemed to be one step ahead of him and he was wayyyy to rigid in his philosophy to change it up and try and amend it to make it less it cumbersome. These games also show that while not always perfect, in terms of being a great tactician, knowledgable HC but also a better game-day HC, Andy Reid is lights years ahead of Marty Schottenheimer ever was and will ever be known for. Montana won this game and following week's Houston away team in spite of Schottenheimer's schemes or gameplans. He and Marcus Allen, especially, and a ferocious pass defense.

@@davidroberts7282 I agree with you, I could go on and on about Marty ball and heartache, still have great memories of this team. Winning it all in 2019 helped me look back at these Chiefs teams in the 90s now with great memories instead of what ifs? What if we had beat the Bills? What if Lin Elliot had made 1 or 2 FGs against Indy? Winning the Super Bowl made that heartache subside for sure.

It’s unlikely the Chiefs would’ve beaten either Cowboys or 49ers, but wouldn’t it just have been the perfect ending to his career, to beat his old team, and the QB that replaced him, in the biggest game? Montana sure had magic. As long as he was on loaded teams, he sure could win some games. Nothing proves greatness like going to a team that made the playoffs 3 straight years before he got there and 3 straight years after he left, and managing to lose 2 playoff games by double digits. What a legend.

He was still one of the top QBs in the league for Kansas City. Super Bowl wins are very tough to get, and the occasional great run like the 80s 49ers, 90s Cowboys, or Brady's Patriots make it look a lot more common than it is.
@Tyrannis07
@Tyrannis07 11 ай бұрын
@@PhilJHaast7695 "One of the top QBs in the league" wasn't the standard. Montana is regarded by most as one of the top 2 or 3 QBs ever, and couldn't make an already good team any better. He only won when he was tripping over HOFers. That's the point I was making.
