A wide rim Panama hat would be a sharp accessory for a white, or cream colored suit

if it’s a darker colored suit, I would match the headband and a prominent feather to the color of the darker suit

As I understand it though: The Panama's do not hold up well in rain. Is that true?

I advise against wearing Panama Hats in the rain. I suggest a Stetsen waterproof fedora for that situation.
