Absolutely wonderful performance, the best I have heard! Also, perfect recording - two microphones at the right positions always give a more natural result than close-miking every instrument and singer.

@@MichelBruin76 Yes to Bach and Handel and sometimes impossible to sing Mozart. This is one of Monteverdi's is always a favorite! Truly prefer it done this way, two wonderful female voices.

Oh my, this brings back memories. I taught this to a children's choir I directed a very long time ago. We didn't have instrumental accompaniment expect a lone cello playing the continuo bass line, and we went a little slower. But OMG the kids ages 8-12 learned all that. It was thrilling to perform it.

Bravissimi!! Ottima esecuzione, le percussioni in Monteverdi ormai sono state "sdoganate" e l'effetto esecutivo è affascinante. D'altronde i gruppi di strumenti che possono eseguire questi brani sono a discrezione e non dogmatici. Bel video! Saluti da Roma :)

I agree with the previous comment - this was an excellent video. I've no idea how authentic the percussion is, but it added a lot, and I am sure Monteverdi would have approved!

So beautiful! Beautiful voices, the precussion adds a lot. I even looked for the lyrics (and translation) which is beautiful by itself. It's a pity, though, that we can't see the pianist. He only appears at the end.

Nice work indeed... But just a copy (note-by-note) of the arrangement by Christina Pluhar and L'Arpeggiata (Virgin, 2009). Unfortunately, the voices are neither Nuria Rial nor Philippe Jaroussky. Good performance anyway, in spite of the percussionist.

Incisivo y Canino And interestingly, Pluhar's percussion supports, rather than distracts, from the music. Also, the Monteverdi excitement seems to be missing here also.

Very beautiful, in all respect--except, unfortunately the percussion. Too over powering, it must be light and sparkling, not on a congo drum! Please listen to early music percussion playing to get an idea of how to combine drums in a way that enhances.

i believe your correct. in earlier pieces the percussion is more like the soft slap on a liars face than that of a drum. but still this was marvelous!
