A Montgomery Ward branded, Fedders manufactured, 11,500 BTU air conditioner model LFE-6112. The unit was made in April of 1989, making it likely to have been sold during the Summer of '89. It has an EER of 9 and is allowed to draw up to 12 amps. It utilizes a Rotorex rotary compressor with 39 ounces of Refrigerant 22.
This machine was given to me by Vann earlier this year. It is in near mint condition and appears to have never been used. It runs very nicely and is very quiet for the size. The evaporator is 4 layers thick and has a nice refrigerant sound to it. The fan motor has one of the best startup sounds I've heard.

Nice quality unit. The thing with the same amount of condensation is a bit peculiar. Great video and I enjoyed the closeup of the squirrel. He/she needs to keep off your lawn though.😁🦔

I Absolutily love the start-up sounds of the fan on this Air Conditioner. It is one of the best I have ever heard of a Fedders product. Seems to work well for an 11,500 BTU machine. Kind of reminds me of your 14,000 BTU Fedders that you have with the grill and design. Hopefully one day we will get to see that unit in action somewhere in the house with a 20 amp circuit installed. The nice machine you have their Jordan and hopefully it will last for decades to come.

Glad you have it so the unit can actually get some use finally. I picked this up in Saugerties a couple years back. I always use a step bit to drill drain holes at the lowest point in the pan. Will let you and Kevin fight over what happens with it next..

I'll pass it along to him when he has a use case for it. He has more nostalgia for this particular model than I, so it's only right for him to have it.

I have a 10K Airtemp unit from 87 that sounds identical to this one. Excellent AC. It has a 3 speed motor with only 2 speed selector knob. I bought a 3 speed selector switch and un capped the medium speed motor lead. Now it's 3 speed but the face plate doesn't match the fan speed. Oh well, definitely a keeper and useable. Just curious to why the compressor sounds very gritty on this era of these ACs..

Compared to other vintage units these Fedders Rotarex units are definitely worse, although they are surely far superior to any modern unit. These things seem to be complete rust buckets though. Every one of these I see nowadays looks to be very rotted out. Someone in my neighborhood had one of the small chassis 90s Fedders in their wall and when they pulled it out it completely disintegrated. I saw the basepan all by itself on the curb and it was very rusty
@JordanU

In what ways are they worse?
@nextg5062
@nextg5062 10 күн бұрын
@JordanU It's the rotarex itself. My grandparents had one of the early 90s Fedders units and the compressor locked up. I have a Fedders apartment style unit with the rotarex and it takes forever to get somewhat cold
@JordanU
@JordanU 9 күн бұрын
@@nextg5062 This sounds like a case of limited experience bias. Was that compressor cut open and confirmed locked? That's an extremely rare failure, for even the cheapest of units. Most rotary compressors take a long time to build pressure, that's not specific to Rotorex.

@JordanU This was well over 10 years ago. They just threw it away when they got central air. It sat in the wall unused for a year or two before that.

@@nextg5062 It very likely was just a spoiled capacitor.
