CORRECTION: Ya'll I am SO sorry, my husband runs the checkbook, and informed me that even though this is our main grocery haul of the month we do spend significantly more than I had said (closer to $700 a month). I'm so embarrassed that I was so off, but wanted to let you know so this can be as accurate as possible 💗
Welcome friends!
I'm excited to take you along today as we hit the road to go get our monthly grocery haul. Then we'll head back home and go through my pantry, freezers, and talk about food storage as well as plan meals! I hope you're inspired 💗
With love, Steph

I shop for meat from the sales ads. Also buy family bundles at the local farm store. If it's not on the most current menu we divide it off and freeze. Storing it on a rotation by oldest dated meat kept toward the front. I used suction freezer bags and masking tape to label them with peel off dates for washing to reuse. I will pull meat early in the week to thaw in our fridge to cut down on defrosting time. I love your family tradition of Saturday burger night. Ours is pizza on Friday. One of our boys kept this tradition and does this weekly with his daughter. We buy frozen on sale but lately have made ours with a simple homemade crust. Our pizza sauce is homemade in monthly batches divided off into weekly portions and suction bag frozen. We keep a bin in our fridge with our favorite pizza toppings. It makes prep a snap just pulling out the pizza topping bin instead of pulling out separate containers olives, peppers etc... In the summer we grill a lot to keep the kitchen cool. I'm working on adding a few things in a garden to help have a homemade harvest. I'd like to find someone local who will guide me step by step in gardening. Every year mine are always taken over by bugs. I want to detour all bugs from our harvest in the most effective and safest way possible. I'm going to try sluggo to ward off slugs as you suggested in a previous video. I think I learn well hands on so I hope to find someone older willing to mentor skills that will last a lifetime. Thank you for your efforts. P.s. It was incredibly precious in the last video when your little girl swiped some icing. Moved to happy tears in that precious little moment. Your channel is a blessing. Very down to earth, informative and kind. You are so loved. John 3:16

We hunt for our meat (moose and caribou) and we always grind the heart in with the burger. It's a nice way to include some organ meat without having to do anything different. We also ground some of the liver in with some of the burger once, (don't remember how much we did, it wasn't a ton). We would mark it and then I would use that when making something like chili that had a lot of other flavors going on, since there was a little bit of liver flavor. We never ever noticed it once cooked up into a meal. I even made meatloaf with, I think, one package of burger with liver and one without, and we totally forgot that we'd even used the stuff with liver until the meal was half over. But we for sure always grind the heart in, (after trimming it). We do all our own meat processing which does make it easier to experiment and control how much of what we do. I was served deer heart as a child and it was just done in small steaks or little strips, possibly marinated, and (other than being super disturbed by eating heart in my young mind) it was good. Members of my family's hunting camp would cook the heart in camp, like in little strips over the fire after getting an animal, it was kind of a tradition, the first fresh meat. I probably had it that way too as a child.

Since it’s Holy Week before Easter, the menu includes cabbage salad, dumplings with potatoes, homemade bread and kutabs made from greens (nettle, wild garlic, garlic, sorrel) from the dacha. I make semi-hard and soft cheese, yogurt, condensed milk, sour cream myself, so that I can eat natural food and save money, since we don’t have a cow or goat. For those who are not Christians in our family, I prepared hedgehogs: homemade minced meat with rice in the form of round boiled cutlets with vegetables and broth.

The meal plan system I have established is similar to yours. We buy our beef and pork from farmers. Chicken usually purchased in bulk on sale. I first go shopping and plan our meals according to what we have. Or sometimes what I'll do is "challenge" myself. Cook with whatever I havd in the fridge, freezer or pantry. Which I imagine you'd be doing near the end of the month. Thank you for this inspirational video. I really enjoy your cooking, baking or homemaking videos. Keep them coming!

We do the same...shop and then meal plan!😀 For the beef heart....I like to make tacos. Cube the heart into little pieces(remove the fat). Brown the heart meat in oil and add lots of onions and peppers to that. Once brown and onions are sauteed then add seasonings salt, pepper, and tomato juice. Cover and let simmer for awhile until the soup is thick. Heat up corn tortillas and add your heart meat, avacado or mayo is good on that as well.

Heart is excellent! I was scared to cook it too, but finally took the plunge with a deer heart last deer season. Simply butterfly it, cut out any fat and blood vessels (I'm not sure how butchers handle the heart, so you may not need to do these two steps), then soak in salt water overnight up to 24 hours in the refrigerator to draw out the blood, then rinse thoroughly and roast as you would any other roast of the same size. The meat is tender and doesn't have the "offal" flavor or texture that other organ meat does. You can find more specific directions on the internet. I'm going off memory for preparing deer heart from 6 months ago! 😅

HAPPY MONDAY Steph, family, and fur babies. How do you know which freezer to cook out of first regarding dates? or freezer burn? Wow; you guys have a stock; I love it. We have a fridge upstairs and one downstairs and we are grateful we can keep both stocked up; right now we have two hams downstairs in the freezer and one upstairs. I plan to use one for Easter Holiday. WE ARE empty Nesters now , however, we stock up for our two son's and the oldest one is married with our two grands so we keep stocked just in case if they ever needed anything. Incredibly cheap for groceries! That’s so fantastic! Family of 6 here with teenage boy and girl, and then tween and younger. I’d say I spend around 150-200 a week depending a bit. I get an Azure Standard order from time to time and I stock up a lot at Aldi. Groceries have gone up SO much. And as my children have grown, they definitely are eating more. And I cook almost all of our meals here at home.

Wow! I’m super impressed by all your freezer food storage. I bet that helps so much! I only have my drawer freezer that’s attached for my fridge and with 3 teenage boys I feel like a deep freezer would be so helpful so I’m not running to the store all of the time. We spend about $200/week on groceries and about $80 on meat.

Thank you for sharing. Two comments I wanted to share which I hope will be helpful to you. First on the preseasoned meat you picked up, I can’t speak for every single store that sells this, but many stores offer this when they’re trying to sell meat that needs to go meaning it’s about to expire, so my personal opinion would be to just season it yourself so that you know it’s fresh and you know what you’re eating. Second was more of a question. You mentioned having access to plenty of milk on your farm which is AMAZING! So my question is why aren’t you making your own yogurt, farmers cheese (crumbly cheese) and butter. I know you mentioned it being a bit Of a pain on the butter, but I make it in my food processor and it’s super easy and hands off basically. The yogurt is also easy especially if you have an instant pot and the cheese is basically three ingredients (milk, vinegar, and salt). I feel so many foods are filled with chemicals and stuff that’s so bad for you so anytime I can make something from scratch I will definitely do it. This method has also reduced my grocery bill Tremendously. Again this is not meant as anything negative but more as just some helpful (hopefully) information

🍽️ I wish we had a store that sold food that way. It’s crazy how we can no longer afford what we could 3 years ago. We went to the grocery store last night and were shopping for Valentines Dinner, I looked at the beef steaks and had to stop myself because idk who can justify the pricing so it’s very interesting ( because we used to shop monthly but since 2020 started we can no longer afford to shop that way) is that there are stores that sell by the pound for such an affordable price. It would be a game changer if they had those in more areas because it would even be worth the drive to stock up.

With all those freezers, do you have a back up generator just in case of a storm in the winter or summer? We added extra freezers and my husband was adamant about having a back up generator so nothing gets lost in case of a storm. We are in Kansas so the weather can be unpredictable. I imagine with a farm, you have a generator. Thanks for sharing your system for planning for your larger family! ❤

We are a family of 7. We shop at Walmart and costco. We spend around $500 a week. Thats supplies food water and when we buy stuff it goes over a bit. Meat is expensive. Once a year we buy a pig and butcher it. Sounds sad. Gross too. But it’s around $300 estimated a pig. Last us all year. I still buy store bought chicken also. Chicken is $25 per case at Costco. Thanks for sharing. I enjoy watching other people in their kitchen. Meal plan. Prep. Showing us what you have. Make more videos on you making dinner. My guess is that using a beef heart is similar to a deer heart - you need to take off any silver skin and cut out any hard parts like fat or arteries. I soak deer heart in marinade with coconut aminos, red wine vinegar, garlic, salt and pepper. I marinade mine for at least 24hrs and then I make sure it's sliced thin (about 3/4" and then I pan fry with some butter and fresh thyme until medium rare. If you get it right heart can be better than filet mignon.

Steph, I am new to your channel and going through some of your videos. They are awesome. I really liked this one as you show your big haul and how you store it!!! I have a couple questions. One is when I freeze fruits like you have in the freezer I can't break the fruit up to make smoothies because it is as hard as a rock, so I buy the Costco frozen fruits. Other ? is on the meat, I was buying meat when on sale and freezing and it did not taste as fresh as buying for example at Costco and just cooking for that week. I am trying to cut costs as we are not a family of 6 anymore but 2 1/2!! Ha Ha My daughter is in medical school lives at home but sometimes with long hours she eats out. Thx in advance ps It is a beautiful to see in this day and age a Godly woman and a beautiful homemaker. I love all your principles!!

Wow I just came upon your channel today for the first and am amazed that you have a Narvon address because we only live a mile from the post office! I was born and raised here and it is home to me ❤️. We just purchased my childhood home from my dad a year ago and he ended up passing this last December. I was curious where the discount store is that you went to because we have recently on down to one income because I left my job to care for my dad that was in hospice Care at our home, so I am always looking for ways I can save in our groceries. I often times go to Glenwood foods in Hinkletown or Ebenezer's in Denver. As far as our dinners, I just stocked up on a bunch of meat at Shady Maple when they had their meat sale last week and canned up a bunch of pork and chuck roast. I made some BBQ pork for sandwiches, Chipotle beef for tacos with homemade tortillas and homemade canned salsa, and don't get me started on the hot pepper jelly!! Every year I have to make my mom's recipe and can it, then we serve it over her homemade cheese ball over the holidays or at gatherings...it's so good!! Have you ever been to September Farm? They have the most amazing ice cream and cheese. We love going there for family date nights for ice cream. Blessings to you and your family and you channel! 😊❤️

Loved the video! 🍽 Always happy to glean ideas for meal planning & grocery shopping. 😊 Curious about a once a month grocery haul..does your fresh produce last to the end of the month, or how do you work with that?

Thank you! I think we definitely eat more fresh produce toward the beginning of the month, but normally at least something will last till we go again or I pick up a few salad ingredients to hold us over 😊

Wonderful planning, this is very helpful! I have four nine years old and under as well and do you have any tips for getting some quiet as you do in this video? Do you do it during “quiet time” or send the kids to go play in the barn or hang with daddy doing his work or do you get a little help from someone who gives you a little quiet here and there as they love on your kiddos? Hugs!!! ❤

I would love to have a place like that to grocery shop at. So neat. We grow our own vegetables and buy our meats and dairy local. We live rural in NC and try to stay away from processed foods as much as possible. That leads me to sugar free, I will only buy sugar free if Xylitol is the sweetener, no Aspartame or Sucralose is purchased here, the side effects of those is very scary. Can you recommend other healthier sweetners? ❤

We used to raise our own beef. Now its only 2 of us and we don't need that much. We do shop at the Amish store and the Amish lady has eggs etc.
