Most paperback new releases at Barnes and Noble don't have a strict on sale date, meaning that the booksellers can put them out on the sales floor when they unpack them. (why you probably saw the Chestnut Springs book early!) So once they unbox it, it can go directly out on the shelves. Whereas the hardcovers have a strict date that they have to put on the floor :)
