Aside from the mafia side of this interview, this is one of the best police interviews I have ever watched. Mr. Poletti is a very wise, astute and noble police officer. He is so right how things have changed. What is very important to take away from this interview in my humble opinion, is that policing has become bureaucratic and is no longer a vocation. In my corner of the world we have police officers giving speeding tickets prolifically on rural roads just outside urban areas where no danger is eminent. Yet for years now, my neighbours and I have asked our police department and local politicians to make a police presence in our neighborhood because irresponsible drivers are speeding at 80kmh in front of our parkette where children play. Never have they ever patrolled the area. This is very offensive to say the least. Yes, Mr Poletti is 100% correct about politics running policing. Policing is no longer a VOCATION. It is simply a bureaucratic nightmare out of control because of municipal politics and a top heavy environment that no longer mentors to this long forgotten vocation. Let us pray and hope this will change. Beautiful work and kudos Montreal Gazette for bringing this together. Cheers from Ontario

This man is not only a fountain of info on the montreal mafia and organized crime, he also has the experience first hand and speaks his mind and isn't afraid to critique law enforcement when it's needed. Also his presence, voice and just overall tone, makes the viewer totally engaged in what he has to say. I could of watched easily another hour to hear him, and only him speak. I find his experience priceless, his knowledge and understanding of the mtl mob second to none, and his way of improving the police dpt etc shows he will say it straight up how things are and won't sugar coat anything. Aside from needing to have his own podcast n telling stories of his time as a cop, the mtl police dept or even rcmp should give this man a senior level position as an expert when it comes the the mtl mob and how to slow it dwn

The presence of the mafia in a neighborhood has absolutely nothing to do with how safe it is. They’re not out killing innocent ppl. They kill each other. Tbh I think neighborhoods are safer with them around. This lady’s worried about them shooting her it seems. Just very random.

He is right: Mexican cartels has entered into Canada (as the government have taken out visa requirement to Mexicans). And they make Italian mafia, bikers look like child play.....this is our main problem today (not interest rate, Trudeau traveling, Johnston etc). In Canada we have social peace, where other countries do not...and organized crimes is enemy number 1 of our precious life style now.

I spent some time in a crackhouse this year as an observer. It's a joke, everyone knows where it is, how much crack is sold, how much money is made but we just let it fly! After 5 min, I knew who was doing the dealing, the running, the 20$ hookers, etc. etc. etc.

As someone who grew up in the east end of Montreal, I'm hearing people say they felt safer when the mafia was around. Kids could play outside and not get killed by a bullet in the middle of the day.

We tend to forget history. There were killings in daylight. Plus the mob played a huge part in helping create unions. The old guard is retiring and this is the new guard figuring out who's going to be in charge. Problem is it's 2023 and it's not the same landscape especially with smart phones, geolocation and social media. Organized crime will have to change its strategy or governments will turn to totalitarism in order to appease the public. The next 10 to 20 years will be super interesting.

There have been plenty of mob murders committed in broad daylight up in Montreal and Hamilton. The only way to reduce the crime is to enforce a law similar to RICO in the states. But quite frankly- I’d rather see the mob still active than the government take over their rackets

I went to Montreal in 2017 after finding pic of Adrianna Cartier she was kidnapped from Montreal in 1975. Police on papineau told me crime never happened and to go home Montreal not safe. Quebec missing children told me that had no such case. I lived in Montreal and in 2018 on chim radio and ctv they announced her anniversary. People in Montreal told me crime happened. Why was I lied to and refused help?

That female journalist had no business being in that interview, she cut him off when he had something very interesting to talk about to mention a non relevant issue, it seems like she was just there for the clout and kept asking nonsensical things to try and stand out.

Mafia and MC Gangs hire young people to do hits? Why? for 5k -10k why go to prison. So thesse new hit-men or teenagers are brazen and fearless. Be careful and don't get involved with drugs and Gangs. Life is shorter than you think 😢

Wow!!! Did this ever open my eyes to a whole different world than the one I grew up in. I know it's always been hush hush but that is scary that the pot of soup that is Montreal has so many more elements in it than we are aware of. There's no surprise.. decades ago (another life ago)...I was in highrise on one side of the highway with a group of people who were in the process of negotiating a deal on several hundred pounds of Hash about 15-20 floors up, saw the police cars coming below and took an elevator down to underground parking lot which ran underneath the highway to a twin highrise in the other side and from another unit in that building watched the raid of the apartment unit we had just left a few minutes previously.. the relatively new people I was with doing business..I was just literally a teenager tagging along with my buddy from Vancouver and his friend made a few phone calls and just a few hours later in the early morning we drove out to a nice house in the suburbs where upon entering the driveway a man came out shaking this guy's hands..opened the garage door and trunk of the vehicle in the garage upon which payment changed hands and a few hundred pounds of hash went from that trunk into the trunk of the vehicle I was a passenger in... and we left..the next day I was at the airport flying back to Vancouver having had enough adventure realizing the person I was with was not what I had expected and as I watched the television news in airport waiting for my flight back a news story was on about the Montreal police and a caption on the screen identified as the Chief of police if Montreal showed a man walking out of building..the exact same man the previous morning who sold back the hash to that was seized back to the guys it was seized from.. that's a long time ago near 4 decades but I've always wondered if anything ever changed.

Could you guys make a video about the chinese triads? I find them interesting because even thought they exist, we never hear them. How strong are they in Alberta, British Columbia, Quebec, and Ontario? I know they are quit strong in BC, but other than that...how about the other provinces?

Hm that last part is wishful thinking; knowing that it's extremely easy for street gangs in MTL to get hand guns I'd feel safer having the right to carry, as a law obeding citizen I should be able to defend myself against thugs and home invaders. If the government could assure us there's an infinitesimal quantity of guns that gets into criminal hands I'd feel safe. That's an utopia tho.

Sadly citizens are devoid of the culture in policing today, the changes that have happened over the last 30 years disheartening. Pleasantly surprised, great guest and an honest dipiction of law enforcement, the challenges and misconceptions in North America. To clarify, in Vancouver you cannot walk into a police station. Members afraid of their own shadows and openly admit they stay clear of organized crime entities. So they engage with the weak in isolation in our communities to fill their days. This lazy, self entitled, policing based on members lack of motivation and conducting themselves based on their feelings has had unintentional consequences with law enforcement agencies. Moral, suicides, members attacked or killed, wake up! To those members that live the oath, stay safe. Clean up your own back yard, remember those before you amd serve and protect those who ask for help. Your guest should be taken seriously and my view needs to be provided a place at the table, to try and alter the course of policing today. Courage is required not more members.❤ ❤❤❤
