It was nice to see John helping Terry out. In the past they had their differences and John would tease him quite a bit. At this point they all probably knew something was definitely wrong. Just think, most of Terry's daughter's memories be of him with dementia.

I saw their final show sitting in a cinema in Mississauga,Canada and enjoyed the experience so much.I became teary eyed at the end hearing the audience around me singing "Always Look On The Bright Side Of Life" along with the Python lads.Python has brought so much joy to my life it's kind of sad thinking this is their last time together.But then again everyone knows that the "Farewell "gigs have become somewhat a bit of a farce in themselves.

Remember, the people in the audience (mostly press) do not have microphones. They had to have a mic passed to them so you could here them. So there were no doubt some laughs that couldn't be heard.
@TygonBC
@TygonBC Жыл бұрын
You've got too used to "canned" or edited laughter where best case scenario the mikes are floating over the audience and amplify their reactions to an unrealistic extent. Worst case, and more common, it's edited in later. Honestly people don't pee their pants laughing to that extent in reality, even if the jokes are totally on point.

The one thing that would've turned this show up to 11 is if they'd found room to also do at least one scene from both "Holy Grail" and "Life of Brian," thus representing their entire audio-visual oeuvre. They had enough sense to do the Protestant Couple scene as well as all the songs from "The Meaning of Life" (apart from its title song), so why not those as well?? I know they did "Always Look on the Bright Side of Life" as their encore, but an actual scene from the movie would've been preferable. Any non-Arthur- or Brian-centric scene (given Graham's absence) would've worked -- the Witch and/or Swamp Castle scenes from "Grail" and the Stoning and/or one of the PFJ scenes (either the Stan/Loretta or the What Have the Romans Ever Done for Us? bits -- or possibly a combination of the two) from "Brian" would've translated well to the stage, given the presence of the dancers as extras for some of those scenes.

Eric Idle several times made the point that satire dates fairly quickly. Quite correctly. I was overjoyed back about 1998 a particular cable channel ran the early years of SNL. Luckily I simply put them on VHS so fast forward was in its element. I was overjoyed to watch S1E1 and a very young slim John Belushi,and episodes later Laraine Newman doing the possessed chicken. Pluck Me !!! .And other terrific moments. But so much of it was boring. There is one very sad revisit when Brian Whatisname of the Beach Boys was the musical guest. He was more or less in the middle of the worst of his mental illness without appropriate prescription medication,and those moments were just as awful as I remembered. Watching,I suppose 20% I enjoyed,the rest I tolerated or actively disliked. What a letdown. With a second machine I hung on to the bits I liked and it was fun to watch the development of characters like the Samurai and the Killer Bees,with Belushi getting bigger. Knowing the end details to then current political issues was spectacularly boring. Less than one full tape. Of what ,some six years ? Satire dates and worse it is boring. Or incomprehensible.

Terry Gilliam joined Monty Python purely to make animations and such. He didn’t think of himself as an actor and the others actually had to convince him at first to do small parts in front of the camera. And to be fair, he was indeed very limited as an actor. I believe all five of them like each other just fine and that you see something that isn’t there.

I think you're looking for issues where they don't exist. They always were and still are on the same page and have mutual respect and love for one another. He's maybe a little more reticent than usual in this as he lets these old English farts waffle on (and I'm English), so his hyper enthusiasm and creativity doesn't always come through when the whole (or mostly whole) troupe come back together.
