I am morbidly fascinated by this scene more than anything else. It's like passing by a train wreck, I just can't look away.

I love when the waiter runs for cover after he gives Mr Creosote the mint.

"I'm having a rather heavy period." That flat, confident delivery Carol has cracks me up every time. She doesn't get enough recognition.

"How are we today? Better. Better? Better get a bucket, I'm gonna throw-up."

As a French guy, I'm amazed how John Cleese imitates so perfectly the french accent ^^

I love how unfazed the waiter is by absolutely everything that happens. “Oh dear, I have trodden in monsieur’s bucket. Bell boy, another bucket (gets puked on)...and a hose perhaps.”

What a rotten day that was.

I like how the waiter politely hands Mr. Creosote the menu and Mr. Creosote just vomits right on it.

This scene is like watching a car crash. It's absolutely horrible to look at, but at the same time you just have this fascination and you still look at it.

Just found out that Terry Jones, who played Mr Creosote, has passed away today. Your performance here and on other Monty Python sketches will always make people laugh forever. Rest in Peace Terry.

Fun fact: in that last scene, at least two people weren't pretending to be sick.

My daughter watched this when she was 6 and was rolling around on the floor, nearly wetting herself with laughter. She grew up with a warped sense of humor and when my wife saw it years later, she cut crook at me for letting her watch it. Now at 40, it dosen´t appear to have done her any harm.

Fun fact: This scene is so revolting that even Quentin Tarantino, who's notorious for his hyperviolent movies, is actually disgusted by it.

Watching the menu drip is a great detail in this amazing skit . They pushed the envelope. True art should always push the envelope.

I've got to say, this is absolutely masterful as a weight loss tool. Just watch it whenever you're hungry, and you'll be good for at least 3-4 hours!

I read a while ago that this sketch is the only time Quentin Tarantino has been disturbed by a graphic or gruesome film sequence. If that isn't high praise i don't know what is.

The waiter, was the fucking real MVP. No reaction to the barf. Just kept on going like nothing happened. Throws up on the menu? Wipe it off and read it anyway!

I've read somewhere that in this scene the smell of the fake vomit was actually so bad, that by the end of the bit some of the actors in the back were throwing up for real 😄😄😄

I just realized the most horrifying part about this scene- the fact that the fish recognized Mr. Creosote, which implies that this restaurant has had the misfortune of letting him eat there before.

Supposedly, this is the one scene in any film that made Quentin Tarantino almost throw up himself.

I remember watching this film for the first time when I was ten years old on VHS Tape. I was always disgusted by it but never made nauseous. Now that I’m 30, I work in healthcare and I’ve seen stuff that has made me more sick than this. I feel this movie has in fact prepared me for life.

My dad told me about this skit this morning while we were out walking and he was laughing so hard trying to explain it. My dad has never liked this kind of humour that I knew of but he was barely able to talk he was laughing so hard especially when he said “One thin wafer” in the accent. Best memory made today! 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

John Cleese's french is pitch perfect.

Rest In Peace Terry Jones. He was the true backbone of Monty Python. Without him, there'd be no Monty Python. It's sad he had to deal with dementia, and lose his ability to speak. It must've been a very difficult time for both him and his family. The loss of him is a very sad day for comedy. But all the many great things he's done and created will live on forever. Now he's out there someplace along with Graham Chapman and Douglas Adams.

Visit any American diner (in the midwest particularly)and you'll see a "Mr Creosote" busy at work.

"Don't skip on the Pate!" That line always got me for some reason, don't know why.

When this movie came out, I saw it in a tiny theater in Athens, Ohio. There were only four other people there, adult couples sitting together. I laughed out loud. They looked disgusted with the film, which made me laugh harder. They gave me looks that said they were disgusted with me. I laughed harder. Couldn't stop. My face hurt for days.

According to John Cleese it too three days to film this less than 7 minute scene.

True story. I was about 6 when i saw this on HBO and I didn't figure this out until I was in my 30's and started researching This scene is at top of my most upsetting moments in my entire childhood.

There are times when I find Monty Python silly, but this sketch is an absolute classic and no matter how many times I watch it, it is still very funny!

The man in the foreground on the right side at the end is not acting: he is really vomiting! Apparently, this scene was so nauseous that he ended up regurgitating in real life.

Some folks here have made much of the fish and their reaction to Mr. Creosote’s entry. And their terror is justified - the careful eye will discern that despite showing up throughout the film, providing a peanuts gallery’s commentary, they never do again after this scene. And little known is that Python shot takes of the conclusion of the meal that they didn’t use because the actors kept laughing and the food started to become rank involving not a pineapple sticking out of Creosote’s mouth … but rather a fish tail. Unrelated, watching this scene in a crowded cinema is a very different - and far better - experience than on the small screen. Hearing the audience’s reaction adds a sublime element of hilarity. *Highly* recommend.

Terry Jones was great as Mr Creosote but John Cleese is my favorite python cast member and he is great in this scene how do they keep their composure and not burst out laughing mad in these movies and the skits they did

Money was spent. Not like, Terry Gilliam is like... "I got an idea for a funny sketch, I need $1000 for stuff." Real money was spent fkn Oprah money on suits and linen, and carpet cleaning and room rental, convincing someone to film it, rent the room or restaurant. Legendary.

I first saw this scene over 40 years ago, and still remains the funniest thing I have seen on the big screen. Simply terrific comedy by the phenomenal Monty Python team.

A moment I love in this is the awkwardness of Cleese's maitre'd stopping the other waiter from picking up the bucket("ah, allow me") only to just hand it to him and say "fetch another bucket".

I was always in awe how almost all of Monty Python troupe can pull off that French accent, deliberately exaggerate it for comic effect and still make it sound so good diction-wise. The restaurant sketch from The Flying Circus shows Eric Idle and John Terry doing the French accent and it’s such a treat to hear, I can never decide who does it the best from all of the troupe. I’ve seen many comedians do the French accent but can’t remember anyone coming even close except of course Peter Sellers and that guy from the last vignette in the Buster Scruggs but I suspect he might actually be French.

TERRY JONES: "One sketch that nearly didn't make it to the final script was Mr. Creosote scene. Because when Michael red it out...it was just after lunch, I think. We'd thought it was our best sketch so we kept it back to lead with after lunch...and everybody just hated it and it went on the reject pile". JOHN CLEESE: "It was red out, I think by Michael, I knew that Michael and Terry thought that it was an exceptionally funny piece, and it completely laid and egg, it was very strange. It was part of that pile of material that wasn't good enough". JONES: "I think about a month later we got a telephone call from John. And he said "I've been reading that Mr. Creosote sketch...I think it'd be quite funny" ". CLEESE: "I suddenly realized that the head waiter could be a wonderfully funny character. So we (Graham Chapman and him) rewrote it and built it slightly more carefully; the building of it was a bit more chaotic, so we kind of piled it on: one disgustingness at a time".

RIP Terry Jones. If I live to be 100, this'll will still have me in stitches : )
