Is it an out-front computer mount or is it a bike light? The answer is both - the Moon Sport MX combines a bright 400 lumen output light with a computer mount into one product. Designed to be installed directly onto the bottom two stem bolts or an optional out-front style adapter, the $75.99 MX is a clever all-in-one accessory. Moon Sport has integrated two lighting elements into the MX with a bright CREE LED on top with an adjustable angle for seeing the road and a COB LED for being seen. The MX also has some clever features such as the Variable Lumen System that allows the output of nearly each mode to be customized independently, USB Type-C charging port for a 2:45 hr:min recharge time and side indicator lights for additional visibility. Although it’s slightly bulkier than traditional out-front-mounts, the MX has the potential to reduce clutter on handlebars by combining a bike light light with a mount.
The MX comes with multiple length stem bolts and spacers to mount it directly to the bottom of the stem. It’s a two piece design with a removable light portion and a separate rear mount bracket allowing the MX to easily be removed from the bike for charging. Installation is straightforward and requires removing the bottom two stem bolts and then selecting the correct length replacement bolt and spacer. Picking the right combination requires some trial and error to get the base of the MX to not rub against the stem. The MX is compatible with a wide variety of four bolt stems as the horizontal spacing is adjustable. Once it’s mounted, the angle is non adjustable but very secure. For those looking for a more adjustable option that doesn’t require stem bolts, Moon Sport also offers a separate out-front mount with an MX attachment.
Visually the Moon Sport has a relatively thin rectangular profile that conceals the integrated battery. The MX has a dual light design with a bright adjustable LED mounted on front with an adjustable lens housing. There are 30 degrees of adjustment with indexed positions that lock the angle in place to . Below the main LED you’ll find the COB LED strip with a warm orange hue and wide beam pattern ideal as a “be seen” style light for daytime riding. Unlike the Fabric Lumaray, the COB LED does not wrap around the body and is instead recessed into a small rectangular cutout which limits the side visibility. The main Cree LED has a metal housing while the rest of the MX is primarily plastic with a matte black finish and glossy X overlay along the sides...

Thanks for the review. I was looking for a combination of DRL and computer holder, and this fits the bill perfectly. A shame I can't mount a stronger light underneath for when I go on longer trips and expect darkness, but it's still a great, very neat system.

Thanks for this informative video. i just bought this and i can say that it has some areas that it can improve a lot and become the one and only light for 90% of the rides ! I would recommend on Version 2 : 1) a bigger battery as possible . My local training everyday night rides are 1.5 to 2 hours so i would like at least 2 hours or more of light. 2) 800 lumens or more. 3) another mount on the bottom , preferably a Garmin mount , for attaching a Gopro with half turn click or another light for the longer rides . 4) As already said a battery indicator 5) less complicate buttons. one is enough for all the functions of one light.

No problem, thanks for you sharing your thoughts on the light as well - hopefully Moon Sport comes out with a V2 of the MX with more power and features. You might also want to consider the RAVEMEN FR160 which is more of a "sandwich" type daytime light. You could then use a brighter nighttime light or mount your computer without losing a spot on your mount.

The direct to stem mount is definitely a lot clear and has less clutter than normal mounts. Moon Sport does offer an out-in-front mount option though which is easier to use if you want to switch between bikes.

Thank you! I am considering buying the Wahoo lanyard, because that particularly locking system worries me... the side lock is allowing a small play, even from day one, so I am afraid that hitting a pothole at a considerable speed would snap the whole assembly out... And the Wahoo would be the most expensive loss 😊

Thanks for suggestion, the BR25's lens cover definitely looks interesting. I'm not a fan of the bulky mount but the flashlight body seems useful for around town use. We'll try to reach out to Nightcore. We'll be doing another Fenix light soon as well which offers a replaceable battery - a rare feature when it comes to bike lights.

Great video and very detailed. I found it very helpful. However, I checked around, it seems that no one mentioned about the models of Garmin Edge that it can fit, do you think it will fit a Garmin Edge 1000 ? The 1000 is kinda big.
@TheSweetCyclists
@TheSweetCyclists 2 жыл бұрын
I believe it should work, in the video you can see the Bryton 750 which is also a large computer and it fits without an issue. Only "aero" computers like some Wahoo models that have non-flat bottoms would have fitment issues.

If you're just looking for a computer mount with a similar direct stem mount, there are other options. For example Lezyne has one - ride.lezyne.com/products/1-gps-fsmcm-v104. They are typically referred to as "direct" out-front mounts.

Hello! I am wondering if Moon has allowed for a safety chord to be attached to the handlebar to secure it in case of bike crash? Or would it be OK if connected to Wahoo computer, the Wahoo chord will do the safety job for both devices? Thank you!

The MX light / mount doesn't have a lanyard attachment but it is very secure as it locks into place. I'm not sure what would happen in an crash if you have a Wahoo computer tied to your handlebar but its possible it would stay attached to the MX mount.

@TheSweetCyclists
@TheSweetCyclists 5 ай бұрын
I didn't have rattle issues, so hopefully your Garmin 830 is similar. I would call the 830 a normal sized computer (2.6" screen) compared to the bigger 3.5" Garmin 1040. Using a lanyard on the GPS computer is just a precaution as GPS computers can be quite expensive. @@abhimawa1

@TheSweetCyclists
@TheSweetCyclists 2 жыл бұрын
The bright CREE LED has 30 degrees of adjustment which should be enough to angle it downward and reduce glare. Moon Sport also offers an out-front style bracket for the MX that would allow you to tilt the entire mount for more flexibility.

@TheSweetCyclists
@TheSweetCyclists 2 жыл бұрын
Good question, I don't see why it wouldn't. It would be higher up but the top two bolts should be tilted upward. Moon Sport also sells an out-front mount to attach the MX to which would give you much more control over the angle and is easier to install.

@TheSweetCyclists
@TheSweetCyclists 2 жыл бұрын
Yes, it does work with Bryton computers (I have the 750) but it isn't designed specifically for Bryton computers. I found the heavier 750 would rotate slightly - its never fallen off but its annoying. I haven't tried it but I suspect you could swap out the Garmin/Wahoo insert for a Bryton insert as the spacing looks like all the other mounts on the market.

Unfortunately no. Garmin headunits only supports their own lights or some Bontrager lights. Hopefully that changes in the future having a single button on/off for bike lights through a GPS headunit or separate controller is a great feature.

@@TheSweetCyclists I received mine today in the Post. Currently I have a love / hate feeling about it. It is so difficult to actually turn on. The Lock/ Unlock is confusing and I feel not necessary. The directions say to press the B1 button 1s to turn on or off. Mine doesn't turn on that way and I have to hold the button in for 5s. Then there are the operating modes for take flashing for instance, way to many choices of flashing. It all just seems confusing when all I want to do is get started riding and I have to deal this light in addition to my Garmin and Varia, my phone and bluetooth ear buds. I think I have gone a bit to geeky. Hopefully I will get more comfortable with this light because I really like that the Garmin mounts right to it.
