Just got my SSR today after watching your review and especially after hearing what you said at 9:35 Everything you mentioned in your review is just spot on. It is a very refreshing listen on the SSR after listening to V shaped IEM all these years. I listen primary to Metal and prog (Opeth, Tool, Soen, Gojira etc) and I can confirm that these SSRs brings forward and prioritise the most important instrument in the genre, the guitars. Thank you and keep up the awesome work.

This is the comment I've been looking for, for literal days, thank you, metal is pretty much almost the only music genre I find myself listening to and it seemed to be very hard to find any information on how the SSR perform with the genre. Although, I'm aiming to buy the better looking version of the SSR, the Moondrop Stardust. Thank you very much, my search for information regarding that seems to be over until I can finish saving my extra cash towards them and actually hear them myself.

@@alexferguson8893 But I should tell you that the SSR can be shouty on badly produced Black Metal songs. The timber of instruments and spaciousness is spot on with the SSR. I currently use the ikko OH10 Obsidian for my music, it makes the guitars seems heavier and there is overall a grandeur presentation to the music. It is a completely different take from SSR.

@@joeljohny5781 Ok, thanks, that is good to know, I don't mind it being shouty, I don't listen to badly produced metal anyway. Also, if I wanted to pay that kinda money for the OH10, then I'd probably just go with the Starfield at that point. I'm just itching to try out some Moondrop IEMs hearing all I've heard about them.

Great review! I have them and I agree with you on all points. These are really good for those looking for a neutral but lively iem. I love 'em! Also, these are REALLY good for instrumentalists. I play the drums and I have an edrum kit at home. This reproduces the sound of the drums accurately!

Do you think a foam tip might "cut" the highs for those treble sensitive?Or are ssr high ok with silicon ?

i have these and yeah for the comfort alone these are a must buy, theres just no experience even close, you forget you have them in and it makes listening to music like its coming from your mind. you can spend 1000s on a god tier iem but you will always want to use these for the experience of losing them in your head.

@@TheHonestAudiophile Hi they just came in a day ago! I've tested them in a quiet room and its so amazing. It has almost the same amount of bass as my Samson sr850's !!! Sound signature is also the same but more clear!! Defenitly worth my money, thank you for the review Dave!! Really enjoying these pair! Also planning to get one for my mom!!

@@brotendo I'm not a good source to answer that question as I haven't used them much at all. I use the Nextdrive Spectra X usb c dongle and the xDuoo Link. I also liked the iFi Hip DAC but it does have some qwerks.

@@brotendo excellent question. depends on the source you are using. there are a lot of benefits like cleaner background, better detail retrieval and resolution and of course additional power. if you mainly use your phone as a source I recommend a usb dongle dac/amp liek the Nextdrive Spectra X or xDuoo Link. If you use a DAP then I would recommend a portable amplifier like the Fiio A5 for those moments when you need a bit more. If you use a desktop setup well then the options grow greatly. But honestly, I find that my DAP are more then enough for the majority of my IEM as I don't use over ears with my DAP. Truthfully, I find that the NextDrive Spectra X is great with the majority of my IEM as well and I don't use over ears with my phone setup either. Over Ears are only used at my desktop setup.

After looking at Crinacle's frequency response graphs for the SSR, HD600 etc I see why you like them so much. It is probably where the "Reference" moniker comes from. I've got to get one of these after seeing how the AKG K371 sounded different from regular IEMs. Perhaps they will substitute as the cheap "neutral/flat/reference/studio" IEMs I'm looking for. I don't think my ear canals are ready for the Etymotic series. There was a recent heatwave in the UK that taught me over ear headphones are problematic in hot weather which is why I'm so fixated on IEMs.

Thanks for the review! I bought these and am very pleased over the sound! These remind me very much of the Beyerdynamic DT-770 Pro (32 ohm) that I have and love! On my Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra with Dolby Atmos, UHQ upscaling and Adapt Sound set to fit my hearing they just hit the right spot! Fast and precise bass and very detailed and analytical sound. They are absolutely not shouty! On my Sony NW-A55L however I have not found a setup that matches the DT-770:s yet. So the driver seems very capable, but might need some tuning to fit every ones taste. With no EQ, the bass is little too deemphesized to my taste (I am by no means a bass head).

I’ve suggested these to a female vocalist at our church who needs IEM’s for live monitoring. I think this will help prioritize her own voice sonically and reduce any chance of muddiness due to the nature of being given un EQ’d channels when playing live.

The SSR in my opinion is an upgrade. But keep in mind that the SSR doesn't have the bass impact of the Blon and has more forward mids and treble. The SSR has better detail retrieval and resolution.

Oh interesting. I was thinking of the sundara. Personally i would say the og T2 would be my personal eqv to the ananda. That being said yes the SSR is amazing.

I haven't heard the og T2. I can see the Sundara comparison for the SSR but the treble is the difference for me, the Sundara is brighter and more elevated. Also, the mids lacked some cohesion and the timbre was somewhat metallic compared to the SSR. Thanks for watching and commenting.

The SSR is showing it's age and the Titan S has better imaging than it. The P1 Max is an upgrade in all aspects to the SSR but is harder to drive.

MoonDrop SSR is the more accurate and natural with proper tone and timbre. KZ ZSX has more detail retrieval but not accurate reproduction. I prefer the SSR between the two.

The Moondrop SSR fits the RHA dual density tip which is for 5mm nozzles.

I mostly agree with you, but how can you find these airy or sparkly? The have very recessed 9-14k so they sound pretty 2 dimensional and narrow. Also did I just hear you say you found the SSR more bassy than the T2 plus??? If you mixed the two up I understand though.

Please remember that gear used, music used and of course our ears all make a difference in how we hear things. I do find the SSR to be airy and have just enough sparkle for my preferences. I also find the bass to be better on the SSR then the T2+ because of how it portrays the details but it does lack some of the mid bass impact of the T2+. Thank you for watching and commenting.

Hello! what is the pipe diameter of the moondrop ssr? I am planning to buy ear tips I see 4mm or 3.8mm I don't really know what is the right one? (just started, I don't really know much about IEMs).

I am not sure. I use RHA Dual Density tips and they are 5mm and fit good. I have also used ePro Horn tips and they are a 4mm and fit great as well. Sorry but I don't know the exact measurement and I don't have a tool to measure it. I look forward to hearing your impressions of the SSR.

The closest that I have heard is the SSR at $40. The only other that is kinda similar is the Jade Audio EA1.

Awesomeness. I love the Moondrop SSR for jazz; one of my favorite genres of music. Tin Hifi T3 is another great option for jazz music. I'm glad you found the channel and enjoy it.

@Desmond Law I’d respectively disagree , if you want reference tier true to sound abilities; the SSR lacks bass at least and so is at least a bad reference for/ not true to sound for bass. I’d go with the TRN ba5 or just tin t2 for better representation of the entire frequency range, IMO

I rated this 9/10 for it's sq. overall package is very nice. I even sold my b2 and keeping this. pretty much open back feel and the presentation quite the same to hd600s despite being thinner sounding (driver limitation maybe, it's 6mm berrylium dd inside, i did open it). this is beater pair for the price (as long as isolation isn't a priority) Comfort excellent, cable very comfy, sounds very clean, DD timbre, good

So SSR sound nature is similar to ATH M40X or better than that ..is it ??!!! How u rate ATH M40X?! (cuz am using it) Not a comparison..both are different forms..but just want to know sound wise if I buy SSR ...is that a upgrade ???? Eagerly waiting for your reply

Been a long time since I heard a stock M40x. I've heard a modded M40x and it isn't even close to the SSR but that isn't a fair comparison. I think the SSR sounds like an HD600 in IEM form if you've heard a HD600. Sorry I haven't heard a stock M40x in several years and I can't give a competent comparison.

it seems this iem has polarizing reviews. some praise it, some criticize it. nevertheless, this has been added to the top of my wishlist since it seems to handle instrument separation and technicalities well. also, it seems that is pretty good for sleeping since others have said the same thing and my mh755's might be replaced. i'm not that worried about the frequency curve anyway since i use eq on every single headset/iem i own, so it won't be a dealbreaker if it's too shouty or bright.

I recommend the SSR but it can come across as bright to some people. The Starfield is more laidback with more bass. I haven't done the review yet but if you would like something in between the two, the Moondrop Aria is a good option that I recommend.

Thank you! You just sold me the SSR. I am new to IEMs especially with the moondrop sound as me coming from the headphone world so maybe I would wait a little more if I am going to go for Aria or Starfield since some says that the Aria are more bassy and less resolving a tiny bit and I think that it would not fit preferences. Some also says that there are no drastic differences at all or the differences are not worth it to upgrade to the starfields. Nonetheless, since I am still torn and there are polarizing views, I will definitely wait for your review of both of them. I appreciate your great work bro!

Sorry, do you use M size epro horn with the SSR... also I ordered Dual density M and they are so small... so I have to order L... I figured out that usual M are around 12mm L 14mm, but the Dual density the M are between 10-11mm, I saw the sizes of the Epro horn and it is regular 12 and 14mm...😁 ❤️

The SSR is better with overall detail retrieval and resolution and has better imaging, depth and layering. I also enjoy the Tin Hifi T3 for gaming on a budget under $100.

But if in your opinion i should not be going lower than the SSR i won't, even though the other youtuber said the Spaceship is the best for gaming (price/performance) wise. hope i find them.comfy to wear

WOW! You compare the SSR to the HD 600 and the HiFiMan Amanda's!? Both of those are about $1K combined. I never heard either, but they are highly regarded. I own a pair of 58X Jubilee. Not the same, however. Nevertheless, I'll be receiving my SSR's, tomorrow.

@@TheHonestAudiophile I was listening bro them, earlier. I noticed it's for critical listening. I didn't notice sibilance. I tested these, whole listening to music and on my PS4 Pro. I can have them on max volume and it doesn't bother me. With the Jade Audio EA1, there is more bass, making them more fun, as you say. However, can't have those, too loud because there can be a bit of of sibilance.

You are starting to make me believe that I should go for the Moondrop SSR instead of the Starfield. I want a cheap sub $25 IEM I can knock about and afford to lose, but now you are making me believe I should go for the Moondrop SSR in addition to that, which means after that I should skip the Moondrop Starfield and go for an even higher level where my audiophile journey will truly begin.

Very good comparison, two of my favorites :) The SSR has slightly more forward mids and vocals with excellent extension and detail through out. The T3 has a little more full sound and is slightly more intimate sounding and the details are not as forward and present.

I can see that but as I said the mids are slightly more full on the 600 and the bass is not as rolled off on the SSR but there are a lot of other similarities for sure.

im realy realy strugling about buying these. Some reviewers are complaing about shimmer and not so good tone. I am a "voice lover" too and sometimes think that CHIFI are not a good place to look for good voices IEM
