The first plane I ever flew as a student pilot was a 180hp 1966 Mooney M20C. Johnson Bar and doughnuts! What a plane for a kid pilot to start in! It's still flying in NZ and has had the modded cowls fitted. Interesting you have the replacement LED landing light. No other LED Beacons/Strobes? See your extra belly beacon up front. I got a lifelong lesson in the M20C. I pulled her off ground short then, with my third arm, got gear up quickly. Owner pilot instructor beside me pulled power and asked me "Know what, gunna be an expensive landing!" Lesson was, in a single engine retractable. Positive rate, no more runway in which can land on should we have to, gear up!

My philosophy is with the Johnson bar, positive rate-gear up, knowing I can get it back down in less than a second if the worst were to happen. It also opens up the options for landing gear up in the grass somewhere straight ahead if putting the gear back down will induce a stall. Just gives more options.

I used to own that airplane, looks exactly as it did when I sold it, glad to see its still flying, loved the manual gear.

Great video. Mooney's always intrigued me when I was young and used to go down to the local airport to check out the different planes.

180 indicated @ 8 gph all the time and something I always mentioned to my V-tail friends. Wing leveler was a great feature. Yes, you wore the airplane. Enjoyed every minute.

My first aircraft was 1960 20A lwith8 wooden WI g ,and tail, in fact had to replace the tail find due wood damage put 1000 hours in this aircraft if I remember used to flighte 175 mph at 8000 ft once you have moo ey with this style WI g every AC after that had simular style wing, Twin Camanche, several twin scencas, twin aerostar last AC, I .loved the Mooney, Christopher Ottawa Canada, by way love your paint job

Very interesting on the flaps being able to take 6 pumps on the flap handle. My 67 C model can only take about 4 pumps to engage the flaps fully. I never really considered other C models being much different than mind. Great video!

That tail is also straight up in the wind during landing, When you flar up the nose the forward tail now sits vertical to the direction of wind, helping in landing and croswind that is why money land so well in crosswind even though the myth is they don't.

Landed my Mooney m20F on grass, does just fine. Definitely don't want to ever force a Mooney onto the runway
