Interesting fact: Beethoven wrote this piece to defy the ‘rules of music’ at the time and so he played the whole song with the pedal down, and only did octave notes with the left hand. He made it simple on purpose, and showed everyone that professionals can make easy pieces beautiful. Without this piece, I doubt many people nowadays would understand that playing is meant for expressing, not showing off.

@@hauaywkos6638 I mean simple is quite a stretch. This song is made up by 3 movements, this is barely the first one. The second movement is a bit more cheery and the third one is a very complex one to play, a lot more like Beethoven's usual style.

I worked summers at a moving company and it was hard work. We'd have a crew of 4-5 dudes of all kinds and we had the best time..probably the best time of my life. We had this one guy who didn't talk much, he'd just politely laugh at our jokes and do his work. One move we had this piano and usually we get the big heavy things first if possible. We get this thing in the house and this guy asks the people "do you mind if I play?" They said no and so he just sits down in this empty house with only a piano and a handful of people on a 110-degree day. He starts to play this song. Moving and swaying to the tune, his back brace un-velcroed and one of his boots untied. We all were frozen. Most of us weren't familiar with classical music, even the 'famous' ones. That moment was 23 years ago and to this day it's one of my fondest memories. That is the power of music.

Every month, all day, every week, for seven years i walked the same road alone to go to school, then eight years to go to work. I've been through any musical experience imaginable, i've listened to all kinds of music as a grew up, but the song my mom loved the most is this one. Next month is my birthday, it's not just any birthday, it's the day she told me when i was a kid that would be the day i would understand what this song means, and she was right all along, because i was here listening to it, and i've realised i knew it all along. I remember walking up the main street in my city after musical school, it was raining, i was completely soaked, and i was listening to this song. It sounded exactly like this, it felt the same, it was the same. God, i felt so lost, without purpose, i felt like i was being dragged around like the news papers being washed down the street by the water, my experiences and my life were just being forgotten slowly by everyone, no one had bothered to ask what i've done all these years, i was a news journal washing down the drain of life, i felt like everything everyone had ever told me about hope was a lie. All the tests i've ever done, all the presentations, all the science, philosophy, math classes i've been through, it all felt so useless, i've learned all those things, and there were still so many questions in my head that i couldn't get the answer to. I got to class that day so soaked that everyone was staring at me in the reception, they asked why i went to school even though it was raining like that, and i said i didn't knew... because i didn't, and i still don't. I'm without any meaning on my back, there is no answer to the question they asked me, those are the questions not even science or philosophy could answer, and they never stopped coming. Beethoven wrote Moonlight Sonata as an improvised piece, Ludwig Rellstab atributed the first movement of the piece with his vision of moonlight shining down on a lake. Beethoven had questions he couldn't answer, so he wrote them down in hope of someone, one day, finding what they meant, and i am sorry for not being able to answer his questions, just like his question didn't answer mine. I have a gift for everyone that read this comment, and will read in the future. "He's made of fear, A spirit unknown. Lest he conquers the eyes of an audience, That feasts on innocence, And is fueled by souls."

Ive never heard of "detuning" a piano, but I love what it did to the sounds! I've personally loosened the strings on my violin to produce flatter tones, but given the nature of tuning a piano, didn't think it was a thing for that instrument. (Then again, keyboards are amazing things of technology)

eshock7 The sustain thing is on all pianos. Any note past one of the Gs I think doesn’t have a damper, since it fades out so fast anyways it doesn’t really need one. :)

Wouldn't "detuning" just be letting it fall out of tune? Every time a piano is played, the strings loosen ever so slightly and start to vary very slightly in pitch (when a piano is tuned, each string of a certain note is brought to the same frequency). So instead of the crisp, pure tones you'd get from the two or three strings vibrating at the same frequency, you get a slight wobble in the tone. It'd basically be playing a fairly old piano that hasn't been touched in a while rather than the notes being flatter than usual.

The very fact that as of yet, we're the only planet with INTELLIGENT life, is amazing. To say that "The universe is so big, we're insignificant and hence we don't deserve any attention" is just stupid. We're one of the universe's best creations. We're living. Walking through the woods. He saw an old friend. But he knew that old friend had died atleast two years ago. That friend was sitting at an old piano, no reason for it to be out in the woods. He called out to that friend "Jeramia? What are you doing out here?" He was confused and scared. He came close to his old friend, and "Jeramia", had vanished. Though the old, rickety, yellow keyed piano, still stay in the woods, and everyone who lives in the town close by say they hear a piano, late at night.

I awoke to the sound of someone playing the piano downstairs. It wasn't unusual for Amelia to play late at night. We'd just bought the house, and Amelia loved the piano. But there was something... off about the sound. It was detuned, unlike how it was earlier. I made my way downstairs through the dark and the quiet. When I stepped into the room, there was a little girl sitting at the piano. It wasn't Amelia. The window was partially open, and the bright moonlight shone through the window and made her glow. The song she was playing was full of anguish and it was more intense through the detuned notes. I stood in the doorway, watching her. I was frozen, unable to do anything but watch the girl play anguish in the soft moonlight.

As the world settled around him the man played a song from before Before the ground shook and the air trembled Before the sky burned and the houses fell Before his family huddled under the wreckage Before his family died under the wreckage In the empty streets the piano sang, the man giving its voice The sound lonely and sad, unchanged over the years he played it Then he would play the last song his mother taught, clumsily and inconsistent but helping him forget Now he played it in the young forest growing from the debris of his past. The song echoing through the trees slightly taller than him reminding him of his life Over time animals came back and grew used to the man, they sat still as he played Many years had passed since the war took them away, but he remembered them through song As he played, he could see the ghosts of everyone dancing slow and graceful as they bobbed through the air His brother dancing with his wife, his mom and dad dancing together, and his sister dancing with Benjamin, their baby brother He could see his neighbors kids tumbling playfully in the air The elderly couple did their own dances close to the piano Many years passed and as he brought the song to an end, a single tear ran down his now tan and wrinkled face The ghosts applauded him cheering his performance Slouching in his chair the old man smiled, then he sighed, then he died. 40 years later, “mommy, look over there!” “Hmm?”, mother looked ahead, “oh, a piano.” The mother and her daughter approached the piano, foliage grown around it and sunken into the ground. The father was trailing behind as their cart was heavy The mother and girl let out a sharp yelp as they came around the old instrument “What is it!?” Asked the father as he ran up to them, then he looked at the piano. “Oh!” Slouched on a weathered chair was a skeleton, propped up but the brambles and ivy climbing it It’s skeletal hands still resting on the yellow keys

Just fantastic Lucas I feel that most people play this too fast and the rubato you put in was very daring but I feel you totally pulled it off I can imagine Beethoven Himself would like your rendition definitely different but fabulous !!

when everyone tries to do some jokes for April the first... one man.. named Lucas stands and plays us a -suicidal- rainy version of one of the best symphony from our beloved Ludwig Van Beethoven... brilliant ! (anyway thanks lucas for this pretty good interpretation and keep up ;3 you're and always will be one of my favorite compositors ❤)

I absolutely loved this rendition so much. The way each note is played, with such thoughtfulness, like the way someone slowly, carefully choosing the right words for a sentence. Each note translates the feelings of the music so beautifully, you feel every last drop of emotion pulled from you until the very end. Absolutely well done.
