FILM DESCRIPTION:
In this adaptation of Ian Fleming's 1955 novel, James Bond (Roger Moore) must thwart Sir Hugo Drax (Michel Lonsdale), who plans to wipe out all of humankind and replace it with a super race that he has cultivated in a massive space station. The girl in the case is American secret agent Holly Goodhead, intelligently played by Lois Chiles. "Jaws," the steel-mouthed henchman played by Richard Kiel in The Spy Who Loved Me (1977), makes a return appearance in Moonraker, turning good guy (complete with a girlfriend of his own) in the process. Bernard Lee makes his last appearance as "M" in this most costly of James Bond's 1970s escapades.
CREDITS:
TM & © MGM (1979)
Cast: Jean-Pierre Castaldi, Leila Shenna, Roger Moore, Richard Kiel
Director: Lewis Gilbert
Producers: Albert R. Broccoli, William P. Cartlidge, Michael G. Wilson
Screenwriters: Ian Fleming, Christopher Wood

No CGI here folks. One of the best stunts ever done for a Bond Film. I remember watching this in the Theater and the audience was totally blown away by this opening.

Coins it’s called stunt men used stunt men to perform the action scenes. Richard Kiel and Roger Moore had their own stunt men. Moore had a stunt double who performed the action scenes for him and if he was running or anything it was a stunt double.

I must have watched this terrific scene dozens of times, and it's only just occurred to me that they had to cheat on the parachute rig design to make it feasible for Bond to wrestle the parachute away from the bad guy and put it on himself. In reality, all parachute harnesses are fitted with leg straps that fit around the top of the thighs, passing under the crotch. If they weren't, the wearer would almost certainly slide downwards out of the harness during or after deployment. You can see the leg straps on Jaws' parachute rig at 2:22. The dummy prop rig in this sequence has no leg straps, since once tightened they would have made it practically impossible to transfer the rig from one person to the other in freefall. For the shot where you see Bond deploying the parachute, I assume they used a properly configured harness with the leg straps concealed under the stuntman's trousers.

If you’re referring to the stunts, they cost too much money unfortunately my friend. This particular scene cost a lot to film, and movie makers these days would rather save money by using CGI nonsense instead of actually paying stunt men to perform stunts. The movie though was awesome, totally over the top and reminiscent of the 60’s Bond films, I wish the Bonds films were more like this
@typie34
@typie34 6 жыл бұрын
actually CGI would be rather more expensive than actual practical work. both needs a big team to do (stunt team and cinematography or VFX artist groups) but stunts are very elaborate to make and take time and much effort. CGI is easier to achieve nowadays and it can look better, depending on the VFX crew and the cinematographers and the money of course

Saw this at the cinema in Cambridge I was so scared of Jaws in this movie that for several days every time I heard a propeller plane at night I thought he was parachuting down to get me (I lived about 4 miles from London Stansted). Not sure how old I was but the movie came out in late 70's early 80's and I was born in '73. Here I am trying to justify being scared of a character in a movie. Truth be told I had bad dreams about Jaws, now and again for decades!

A classic Bond action sequence. No CGI, no shaky cam, no crash editing, made real by stunt men doing all these amazing stunts. Roger Moore portrays the role of gentleman's spy with class and sophistication. Now we have a blonde Bond who's having identity crisis. He doesn't know whether he's Bourne/Statham/Ramboo or whatever.

What I love is those opening two lines of hers and then Roger’s absolute calmness even when faced with such odds. Unarmed, in a plane, trashed instruments and no parachute. I think this may be Moore’s best outing as Bond in spite of some of the silliness of the film itself.

This is one of the spectacular opening scenes. I am impressed that Bond has the time after being pushed out of the plane to chase the henchman, grab hold of him, fight him for the backpack, put it on and get it secured, get grabbed by Jaws, and only then deploy the chute, whilst still appearing to be thousands of feet above the ground. If the plane was flying at 15,000 feet, it would only take about a minute and a half to hit the ground after jumping.
