@@Christopherjamesmurphy21 I personally only carry my Mora Bushcraft in the forest when hiking. And my companion when fishing. And neither has the button. I have a bushcraft black and it's great. It's better than a lot of much more expensive knives. I don't think something like that really needs the full tang: it you wanna beat on it like a madman, sure, but realistically you're not using anything this small for crazy survival stuff or chopping anyway. If you're carrying either knife, you're going to have an axe or saw too, and it handles smaller batoning jobs just fine (I've done it a lot). After playing with a garberg a little, though tbh not nearly as much as would allow a fair comparison , I'm glad I didn't spend the extra money. That said, if you're a knife nut it's still good value so why not! (I probably will buy one eventually if I'm honest).

I really do love the Garberg. I'm actually getting a Garberg Black with the High Carbon Steel sometime in April and I'm excited to see if it is any better then the Stainless Garberg. The Bushcraft Black is a great knife I have used mine a lot and it really does everything it is made to do very well. I retired and divided to do some light hiking and backpacking. I just received from Amazon the Mora Garbergh and the Companion HD. I bought the Garbergh for my heavier work, but the HD for food prep, making feathers, and cut rope. Both are SS blades because I fish alot. I think a person should have 2 knives + a pocket knife. No one knife can do it all. BUT if I could only pick one....the Garbergh

why would anyone get the bushcraft over the garber? maybe because it has a more confortable handle, and more gripy, and saver because of the finger guard, i really wanted to get the garber, but when i held both in a store, bushcraft is just much more confortable to hold
@newageselfreliance

The Bushcraft Black does have a nice rubbery handle. When you use it over time it does get hot also when trying to use it in different hand positions it can get uncomfortable at times and create hot spots. I also like how you can choke up on the Garberg and get close to your work for more powerful cuts and finer control. The finger guard can get in the way at times. With all that being said I still use my Bushcraft Black it is a really great lightweight option that can perform really well in basic camp tasks.

I wish they would make a full tang Black. I prefer the handle on the Black, but I like the security of the Garberg. I usually carry the Garberg, with the Black in my pack as my backup. 1 is none, 2 is 1 and all that. That let's me switch up if I want, as well as if my blade goes dull on me, instead of stopping to hone, I can swap out knives and do my honing at my leisure later on. Both are great knives though. I really can't knock either one, regardless of the partial tang on the Black. I've batoned plenty with it over the 3 yrs I've had it with no issues.

Like if you are going to cut an apple, you aren't just going to use the tip of the knife. So it isn't much different than using a thicker blade. If you are cutting meat or fish the thickness of the spine doesn't really matter as long as the knife is sharp, because your knife is usually taller than the meat or fish.

I feel the same about wilderness survival blades vs tactical survival blades. I really dont like tactical style blades. I don't like them aesthetically. There's some sort of intrinsic value to the natural looking blades that draws out some primordial feelings. Sometimes moras kind of ride the line, at least appearance wise. I like the looks of the bushcraft and companion HD better than the garberg but a full tang would be nice.

I think the Full Tang is more about having the piece of mind than actually having a better blade. I have never heard anyone have any issues with the Bushcraft Black or the Companion HD. They are both tough as nails and neither of them are full tang. I really like the Garberg but I think you would be just as happy with the Bushcraft Black.

Love the Garberg, people complaining about the price wouldn't hesitate to praise it if it had the Kabar, Esee, Bark river name etc. A lot of Mora users just can't wrap their head around paying more than 20-30 bucks for a companion, and saying this knife isn't worth the price. I'm not sure if they realize that price and performance doesn't rise equally. You don't pay 3 times as much as a companion and get 3 times the knife. However for a full tang knife with a 90 degree spine a scandi grind and good steel it's a fantastic deal. On a side note the Grey Bearded Green Beret says this is one of his all time favourite knives after using it for a year, if it's good enough for a Green Beret it's good enough for me lol. I've had my eye on a Fallkniven f1 pro for a long time I just can't justify paying the price tag yet although it's my dream knife.

The tang goes much further into the handle in the companion than people think, and it isn't a flimsy tang either, some people cut open the handle on YT for our benefit The tang will never fail you, and when the knife did snap its because people slammed logs on the spine to push the knife through an even bigger log i.e. "batoning" and sorry to say, the knife isn't really for that, no knife is. But you need carbon steel for making fire with flint/rock. Not possible with stainless. SO in survival bushcraft situations always go for carbon steel... The full tang is just well noy needed. it's not an axe right? Normal people use it for cutting bread, meat, wood, sticks. Not for chopping trees.

Hitting your blade with a rock does more damage than chopping branches off a tree. I'm not a fan of using flint on my knives I would much rather carry a Ferro Rod. Full tang makes it better at buttoning as well as giving you the peace of mind of knowing it will hold up even if you have to use it as a spear or other makeshift tool.

I don’t think you mentioned that the bushcraft black actually comes with a ferro rod and diamond sharpener. That might not matter to come that already carry them, but for others that might be a nice redundancy to have. The Garberg can now be purchased with a “survival kit” which includes the ferro rod and diamond sharpener attachment (as well as purchased separately). In any case, the attachment will push the price of the Garberg up. I will say that many who own the Bushcraft black (aka survival) say that they have beat on it and have never broken it or had any problems. As you said, the Bushcraft/outdoorsmen prefer a full tang which comes with added peace of mind. It meets Dave Cantebury’s requirement, that the knife be full tang.

The only thing thats better on the Garberg is the Fulltang. The Bushcraft has, in Fact, the better Blade. Both Knives have nearly the same Blade, BUT, the Bushcrafts Cutting Edge goes right to the Handle, the Garberg not, it has there a little "Edge" what makes sharpening even more diffficult and you lose Bladespace twice through it. Next Point at the Blades is that the Bushcraft has a true Scandi Form Blade and the Garberg NOT. The Garberg has a Scandi too but with a Micro Phase right on the cutting Edge, this makes the Blade stronger sure, but in same Time less sharp and a lot difficult to sharpen. Last Point is that Carbon Steel, like on the Bushcraft, is harder as stainless Stell, can get more sharp than it, lasts longer sharp and is easier to sharpen. Main Point over all: If the Bushcraft were a Fulltang too, it would be the far better Knife than the Garberg.

I’ve been sharing this out from the rooftops and it seems like no one is listening. The Garberg is not a true Scandi grind, it’s a saber grind. The blade is simply too thick for real Scandi grind. Yeah we all like full tank but I have yet to see Bush craft or any Mora fail. And that handle isn’t nearly as comfortable as the Bushcraft. If you get the carbon steel Garberg you’re looking at twice as expensive as a basic Bushcraft. You’re no longer in the moral value range and for that kind of money you can get a BKT or a BK seven if you really want a full thing to do some heavy duty batoning. In fact you can get a Companion and a BK2 for the same price as a Garberg.

I've long been a full tang only guy but after buying a Morakniv Bushcraft Black I've completely changed my mind. The Bushcraft Black literally embarrasses knives costing hundreds. I have knives in the 500usd range which either have too small a handle for me or too big of a blade for anything but, "Now this is a knife" reenactments. The blade on the Bushcraft is absolutely perfect. The handle(again I was very skeptical about anything that's not wood, bone, or leather) but the soft touch larger handle of the Bushcraft gives my ogre hands something to hold. The square ground spine of the Bushcraft showers sparks. I actually love the sheath, works nice and the knife will not fall out, it actually kinda clicks in. Bulletproof. I would actually pay more for this knife and the custom knife crowd needs to revisit functionality over beauty. I have loads of beautiful nearly useless knives and the Morakniv Bushcraft outshines them all for functionality.

I have the Mora Companion, Bushcraft Black and the Garberg..I even have one of the old Mora's with an orange wooden handle from back in the day..how can you go wrong with any Mora? I would agree that the Garberg is best. I'm probably going to add the Mora Kansbol to my knife arsenal at some point but the Garberg will still be king of the Mora line no doubt. I have a lot of knives, love them all but anything Mora is awesome. Lol must have been very confusing for your dog named Mora while you are making a video and saying "MORA" nine hundred times lol.

She has gotten really good at ignoring me when I'm talking to the camera. I have the Kansbol and of all my Mora knives it is my least favorite. It is still a great knife and I would be happy to carry it, but I like all my other Mora knives better.

@@newageselfreliance That's pretty funny lol. Hm maybe I won't bother with the Kansbol then. I've always been a bit put off by it's blade design. Just doesn't look like it would be very robust. Probably can't really do anything my Garberg does any better anyway.

I haven't found the benefit of the blade design personally, but maybe I'm missing something.

@@newageselfreliance I watched another video showing the Kansbol being useful making bowls and spoons but then the guy cautions not to be too rough on the thin blade just in case. I don't want to have to be concerned with "play nice or chance breaking your knife blade" in a survival sitch and if I'm going into the sticks I'm bringing self sustainability kit such as stainless steel cookware anyway. It's probably a good knife for It's purposes in carving stuff but I'm definitely on team Garberg lol.

Nonesense. Did you ever look up mora destruction tests? Before you get that blade out of the handel of the bushcraft mora you will break the blade. Full tang wont give you benefits here. I got a problem with the sheats of both the bushcraft and the garberg. The garberg sheat is not thought through and the bushcraft sheat just makes the set unnecessary expensive if you get the set with the sharpener and the ferro rod.
@newageselfreliance
@newageselfreliance 3 жыл бұрын
Mora isn't known for the sheaths. The Bushcraft Black comes in a cheaper standard sheath that doesn't have the ferro rod or sharpener attached amzn.to/3fWvBRF I like the Multi-Mount sheath better than the leather sheath for the Garberg but both could use an updated version.
@martinerhard8447
@martinerhard8447 3 жыл бұрын
@@newageselfreliance yeah i dont like the fancy sharpener and ferro rod addition for the bushcraft. The sharpener at some point (i rather carry sandpaper) will just stop working and the ferro rod wont fit in tightly anymore when it got used and is thinner. Also it makes the whole package pretty expensive. (but i think you can only buy the stainless versions of the bushcraft with the sheath addition) the gardberg multimount sheath has problem with the knife falling out. Overall i right now would say the bushcraft carbon is my top pick for mora outdoor knifes. The carbon blade is super easy to sharpen and i can strike flint with it and with a patina i had no rust problems so far. The handel is the most comfortable but i wish it had a bit more belly like the garberg. But its lighter than the garberg and still handels batoning without a problem.

@newageselfreliance
@newageselfreliance 6 жыл бұрын
Neither one of these blades has a secondary bevel. The scandi grind is very easy to sharpen. The Bushcraft Black is coated all the way to the edge when you buy it and the coating comes off of the edge as you use it. The Garberg has better edge retention and is a little harder to hone after use. I have never sharpened either of these blades I simply hone the edge with 1000 grit stone or a leather strop. I really enjoy both of these knives but my opinion is the Garberg is a much better overall option. Thank You so much for watching I really appreciate the support!!!

First if I only had to carry one blade between these 2 then yes the Garberg gets the nod. I own both, after much thought and this comparison video I had to go to use case. I think for what they both are the Bushcraft Black is better. For these reasons: - liter in weight, I'm going to carry a big saber grind blade or axe/ tomahawk or a machete with it depending on area so no need for the full tang plus I have never seen a bushcraft black broken. - handle is more comfortable and blade starts right at the handle no ricasso (best for wood working) you made that point well - You can get a buscraft black in stainless and carbon so I would carry both and use the stainless as a backup staying in my pack or for food processing as well. As a one blade option belt knife a saber grind large blade at least 7 - 10 inches with a bowie style point is a "survival knife" in my opininion pair it with a bushcraft black and you have true knife bliss!
@newageselfreliance
@newageselfreliance 2 жыл бұрын
The Bushcraft Black is a great belt knife. I think the Garberg is more of a one knife option. If I was backpacking or keeping things lightweight I would carry the Garberg by itself instead of the Bushcraft Black and a heavier knife as well. If I could bring whatever I wanted I would bring both. The Bushcraft Black would be on my side and the Garberg in my pack ready for whatever. I like the Garberg better than the Bushcraft Black but I would rather dull the Bushcraft Black and keep a good edge on the Garberg just in case I really needed it.

Personally, I was hoping to see these two knives compared to each other. I feel like I wasted 20 minutes of my life waiting for you to do so, while you were rapping and bebopping to your camera. Dang! That sounds way harsher than I meant it to come out ha ha. What I was meaning to say, is that if your comparing two objects, you would typically at the very least show us the two objects. Where we can see them. See the differences while your explaining them. Go over the things that are the same also. Cause I’m super curious if the knives are of the same thickness in the steel. I do know the steels are different between the two, but some may not. Is one more pointy then the other? Ect. That’s simply what I would like to see, to answer your questions at the end of your video. Rap on dude!
