Dear Jennifer, Thank you so much for explaining the English idioms that they are relating to the cards' game. Could you explain more idioms, especially they are using more in the society? At the end, I will be so happy if you say my mistakes in above sentese that I have said. Many thanks and I wish you both longevity and health forever, Kiuhnm

Great lesson. This one makes me remember that conversation we had about "in the cards" and "on the cards." Both are acceptable to use. 1. It's helpful to keep a poker face when offered a better deal than one may have expected. 2. If I play my cards right, then in one or two years I will be running the department. 3. My best friend has literacy skills in spades. 4. I was once fortunate enough to win money at the casino. It was just the luck of the draw as there are more losers than winners among gamblers. My advice to others would always be to quit while ahead and to view money gambled as money lost.

Thank you so much for the support. You're super sweet to compliment me on my skin. As I get older, I consider all the ways I can help slow down the signs of aging. Ha ha. I get advice from my private students. One told me to scrub with coffee. I've tried that a few times. :) I think getting enough sleep is a BIG key. I was completely sleep-deprived in my thirties. LOL

Hi Jennifer, Here are my examples! Jennifer can't have a poker face. It would be luck of the draw to get out in this weather as there is prediction for rain later in the day. I wish I had money in spades. Jennifer has been playing her cards right for years now that's why she is successful. Please check! Thanks for these wonderful idioms! Enjoy your weekend!

Well, I might try to have a poker face in a stressful situation to show that I'm able to maintain the appearance of being calm. Ha ha. We don't normally talk about the luck of the draw in relation to weather. Also, we usually talk about having a quality in spades, not material possessions. Suggestions: It was the luck of the draw when I got chosen to lead the project. The teacher chose names at random. I wish I had financial skills in spades. I'm not knowledgeable about investing. Go to YouGlish for more examples. :)

No, the pandemic is not over. Those who chose to get vaccinated will need a booster shot for added protection. More and more children are starting to get vaccinated. The numbers are down, but COVID hasn't disappeared. We need to get it under control in all 50 states. Hope you are safe and healthy!

Thanks for watching. Note the spelling: play your CARDS right. Suggestions: 1. He is so smart and ambitious enough that I am sure he will play his cards to get a higher position in the company. 2. Because he always keeps a poker face, you cant guess what he think and feels. 3. When you consider all his features, I would say he has determination in spades. 4. And he never yields or changes his decisions and goals. Whatever happens is the luck of the draw.

It's helpful to keep a poker a face when your boss gets you to do something unnecessary. If I play my card right, than in about one or two years I'll be changing career My best friend has delight in spades I once was fortunate enough to scape a plane crash when I missed the flight for which I was booked. It was just the luck of the draw. Is it all correct? Please Jennifer or advanced students, help me. Thank you!

Thanks for practicing with me. Suggestions: It's helpful to keep a poker a face when your boss makes you do something unnecessary. If I play my cards right, than in about one or two years I'll be changing my career. My best friend has optimism (joy, kindness, or some other positive quality) in spades. I once was fortunate enough to escape a plane crash when I missed the flight for which I was booked. It was just the luck of the draw. >> WOW! What a blessing. I'm glad you weren't on the flight. I'm sorry for those who were. Thanks for sharing a personal example.
