WE’RE JASON AND NIKKI WYNN. A couple of modern-day documentarians, perpetual travelers, and seekers of tall tales.
We’ve been chasing our curiosity around the world on wheels and keels since 2011. Why? Because curiosity is the key to unlocking life. It pushes us outside our comfort zone, softens our assumptions, and helps us embrace the great unknown. The more we let our curiosity lead the way, the more we discover about ourselves and the world around us.
Our home is also our transportation and we spend weeks away from civilization and sometimes land. Self-reliance and living a sustainable lifestyle are a must. It's all about managing our resources and we’re always looking for new and better ways to do so.
We've lived off the grid for over 10 years now in everything from a Van to RV to a Sailboat. And over time we have learned a lot about renewable energy, creating safe drinking water, and managing our waste.
Our journey is ever-evolving but the mission remains the same: #CultivateCuriosity

"I'm not crying, you're crying!" I started to tear up with you as I can certainly empathize with your situation. My father built a 38 ft cruising trimaran (his lifelong dream) over a 10 year span while working full-time and raising an often rebellious teenaged daughter ;)! After several years sailing and living onboard in the Caribbean, he returned to Canada and reluctantly sold his dream boat to someone in the US. However, before he passed away he was already building a new racing trimaran as well as a miniature tugboat (just for fun)! I have since tried to locate the trimaran to no avail and have always wondered where it might be now. Your videos have brought me back to those times on many occasions. I have loved coming along for the ride and look forward to your next adventure as you let go ...

I used to work for a Cruise line. Check with the airline first for that $100 for an extra bag option. I only ever experienced that flying from the USA. Everywhere else I paid per kilo. It wasn’t worth taking things that can be replaced for a fraction of the cost at the other end. Anything essential to keep, I packed up and posted it home by sea mail. With a little planning it’s doable. Living this lifestyle makes you realise you can live out of just one suitcase.

I just realized that Curiosity said listed Dallas, Texas as her “home.” I grew up in Grapevine, just NW of Dallas. I lived there before Hwy 121 was extended from Bedford to Grapevine, it was just the 2 lane frontage road on each side and large mounds of dirt. In fact, for about 9 weeks in the fall of 1982, we lived in Bedford before our house in Grapevine was ready. I walked home from school over the dirt mounds that would become the overpass over E Harwood Rd. Yes, my family moved in October of ‘82 from Norman, Ok to Bedford and again in Dec ‘82 to Grapevine. Now as a wife and mom, we live down on Clearlake, about 3 miles from Galveston Bay. Can’t wait to see the new boat.

Can I ask a dumb question ?? A new boat build will (I’m Guessing) take months/year to complete.. you have to come back to America any way to wait it out.. Curiosity is American flagged and will probably sell for more and quicker in the states. Why not just Sail her back home (the express route)?? I’m guessing you need a down payment for the new boat, but I can’t imagine you need to be paid in full ?? Maybe take a month and bring her home ?? No need to leave stuff of value behind, no need to stress about what to do if she does not sell before your visa expires, it just seems that besides the actual sail it would be a decent option. Even if you just got her as far as Hawaii.

Just watched & appreciate your "real" human expressions in the context of a world gone Delusional! Love what you share of your lives with integrity. Having traveled around the world by ship as a mission child, then 4 years 2 months sea duty, 2 squadrons, 3 ships in the Mediterranean, am now at 74 an armchair sailor with you and a couple others. Thank you & may your journey be successful, no matter how it turns out? Having experienced "Wholeness", to EXCLUDE is to leave that Wholeness; which translates to I passionately appreciate your authenticity! Side thought, I REALLY like the vehicle of your journey's name "curiosity". Again, I love you, "being you!"

Teamwork makes the dream work. Sharing is caring. Knowing is growing. And a personal favourite that I once heard a woman say when several kids were taking turns playing a video game, holding the controller. One kid kept grabbing at the controller, wanting to show the other kid “how it’s done”. She said - “Help with your words, not your hands”. ha ha, and, in my own experience, this phrase works for both children and adults. Thanks for sharing your adventures. Those fish were incredible weren’t they. 🙂🐿🌈❤️

It sounded like you almost said 20% of the boat sale price would be $100,000.00? Is it wrong for us to ask or want to know how much you paid and put into and ultimately sold the boat for? Is that not the biggest part of this whole experience/adventure? Would be interested to hear what the buying experience was like. In particular what were they asking for the boat vs what you paid. What's the best way to determine what you should offer? And then how you decided what to ask and in the end what you get vs what you were willing to take? My wife and I have been talking about buying a liveaboard once both of the kids are out of the house..... I have 22 year old twin daughters so we are thinking it could be soon. Would be nice to hear how much you ultimately spent and what you would have done differently.

The info on cost to buy, register, insure, etc. Curiosity is all documented on the blog - check the Sailboat Shopping tab. But I'll make sure Nikki and Jason see this comment and maybe they'll do a "wrap-up" video. Good idea! Curious Minion

If you look at their website, the listing is posted there. If brought into NZ looks like the tax is around $80k. Talk about extortion, the NZ takes luxury tax serious.

@@bindingcurve well making laws, that cost us money, is not really extortion, because the law makers made it a law, so that pretty must eliminates the term extortion. 😉 So let move on and just call it being financially raped. LOL For several years, I sat on a state legislation committee for public safety. Part of a group that reviewed drafted legislation before it went on to other committees. Most of the time I opposed the new legislation, mostly because it had nothing to do with public safety, only making revenue for the state government. It was disgusting watching elected officials wringing their dirty grubby hands to take more money from the hard working people. Maybe one day, people's paychecks will be sent to the government and in return, the government will give you back a small amount as a gesture for being a good puppet.

I'm going through a similar experience... moving from Wisconsin back to my home state of North Carolina... Just take it one day at a time, and keep the image of what it will be like when you are both sitting on the deck of your new boat, sipping wine, and watching the sunset.

I very much relate to the moving, we downsized from a small house to 175 kilos of luggage to freight to the east of Australia for when we bought a boat, went back to the US for Christmas, picked up more stuff to finally fully move everything over to Australia (I'm American, married to an Aussie, living in Aus), got back to the east coast of Aus, freight line washed out across the country in massive storms making sending personal items via freight nearly impossible, boat market was too hot to buy so decided to kill some time in Malaysia while still looking for a boat, headed from Malaysia to Perth to downsize the stuff again to fit into 5 bags on Qantas (115 kilos), then finally got all our stuff to the east coast of Aus many months, and dollars, later. This whole saga has taken 6 months thus far and wouldn't have been possible without our wonderfully patient friends over here on the east coast who have let us crash with them indefinitely while we try to buy a boat. They are the real MVPs.

God love you both! Curiosity is a part of your family, letting her go will be like sending your baby to college or walking your child down the aisle. Curiosity has kept you safe, your emotions are definitely warranted and are not “stupid human emotions”. Your channel was the first sailing channel I started watching, now I want to live aboard! Thanks for sharing your life with us even if it’s just a tiny little piece of it. The next human that gets the privilege to live aboard curiosity will be a very lucky human!

I only found your videos a couple of weeks back, only discovered cruising videos as a whole a month of so ago via sam holmes, but can I just say how much I ❤ you guys. The last few minutes of this video are just so incredibly endearing/real and wonderfully human. I 100% see my future living a reasonably sustainable life aboard a boat and you have been a big part of making me feel thats likely an optimal path for my future - so thanks and keep being awesome!

I think every viewer understands that at times you have to make time for doing what must be done. You certainly have video evidence on boat maintenance. I have the best hopes and wishes for a great outcome for everyone concerning the sale and purchasing. Take whatever time you need. We will see you when the time is right. You'll be missed.
