Hi guys, and welcome back to yasminecollects! Today I have a GREAT find, a 2005 Broksonic CRT TV [model CTGV-4563TCT] I found it for $10 and believe its a 13 inch screen. I'm happy I didn't pay 100+ for a "gaming tv"
If you watched my other CRT video: My CRT Dilemma • My CRT Dilemma you might know that I've struggled a ton with the high frequency noise all CRTS emit. I figured looking for a smaller model instead of the Sanyo DS27510 would be a nice test!
We'll also be programming a universal remote, watching some tapes, playing some games and overall having some good clean fun. Hope you enjoy.

One other thing to note with this TV, CLOSED CAPTIONS. Neither this GE Universal Remote, nor the TV menu itself seems to support any form of closed captioning. Wonder what my options are there...hope y'all are having a happy holiday!

Another update; the speakers do not always hold up well to movies. Especially classic films, I find with all the strings and singing in Disney’s “Snow White” as an example causes a lot of static and buzz/blow out. In that case I end up plugging the audio into my external speaker. It sounds great for video games, though!

Hi Yasmine, new to your channel, I'm just guessing but I think the sound don't hold up as just by what I can see in the video but the TV may be Mono and not stereo so you would need the volume up quite high. Also Orion was a pretty popular manufacturer in the UK during late 80's and early 90's. Looking forward to watching the rest of your YT content👍

Hi Yasmine I love your channel! I am an old school guy as well too. I collect VHS tapes records, audio cassette tapes, CDs, laserdiscs Betamax tapes and more! I love your CRT TVs that you have. I have one that I’m putting in my room it’s an RCA built-in VHS player TV from 2000. I’ll be getting the remote for it tomorrow. I had to get the right remote off eBay for it because It didn’t come with the original remote! I used to had a 1996 GE TV with a built-in VHS player but sadly the TV died unfortunately. In my VHS collection I have over 1,000 VHS‘s. I have lots of Disney and Kids tapes but pretty much any movie you can think of you name it I got it! 😃📼

Sounds like your collection is a dream! I'm so glad you enjoy my videos, connecting with fellow collectors is the best thing ever ❤️ I'd like to find a built in unit myself, they sell for a lot on even FB marketplace here, but they are so cute. Hope you got the remote programed and are enjoying your new addition!

@@YasmineCollects I got the Remote and it works Great! Oh, also one VHS I would keep in mind to look out for if you’d like Sesame Street you should get the 25th anniversary of Sesame Street called Sesame Street 25th birthday a musical celebration. I used to watch that film over and over again! I don’t know if you’ve ever seen it, but it’s one of my favorites in my collection?! 😃📼

First of all, You remind me of Enid in Ghost world. Crt tvs are the absolute best. So glad I kept mine. People have forgotten how nice they are, deep blacks and beautiful colours. 10 years ago they were everywhere but nowadays… They are much harder to find. Watching and playing video games that are period correct on these is phenomenal. Nostalgia at its best.

A high pitched whine was pretty common with CRTs. Younger or people with good hearing could hear it (It was only about 10 years ago I lost the ability to hear it). You will either lose the ability to hear over time or try good headphones.

Congrats on the new CRT Yas 😀👍 That music while you were programming was perfect as Ive not long woken up lol. Nice n claiming. I can't remember if I've ever seen a coloured VHS tape. I think I've seen a red one. But those white and blue tapes look really nice. Definitely makes the collector in me pay attention lol. Not gonna go there though.

Now, modify it internally to give it a component or RGB input :) Then you'll see its true potential. The thing is, these "modern" CRT's (especially your American type of TV you have there) didn't come with what we usually had in Europe (and that's a SCART/Euro socket), this was a practical 21 pin socket that often had multiple options on it like RGB/S-Vhs/Composite video/Stereo/power for external adapters etc.) all-in-one plugs. But fret not, your television is moddable if you learn what to do (keep away from the high voltage parts, and the degausser coil, if you don't want a shock), but there are a lot of youtube videos on how to "mod" a television into becoming RGB capable. It's usually all about locating the tuner unit, and then the IF section - and bypassing those sections and find the one-in-all chip in there that can usually handle RGB as well, you usually have to do some tricks with the sync to get it working, but you CAN get it working. RGB signal will give you a crystal clear "Nintendo Wii" or any old console with RGB out - image that will blow your mind if you've never experienced it, imagine zero noise, beautiful colorful strong RGB pixels like it was meant to be. Not to mention what you already have experienced, zero lag when gaming old-school.

@@YasmineCollectsfind someone to service it, Retro Gaming Cables sells SCART ports perfect for the CRTs, definitely go for that for every non-HDMI console you get except for GameCube or Wii as the NTSC versions of the consoles don't support RGB which go for Component (HD Retrovision Wii Component Cables and I think Retro Prism GameCube) for PlayStation 1/PlayStation 2 RGB SCART cables grab the Retro Gaming Cables ones with the GunCon ports if you are interested in Light Gun games looking to get the PlayStation 2 RGB Light Gun SCART cables

Happy thanksgiving from the UK, Yasmine. Regarding CRT? I swear by this model Sony KV 32FX20U FD Trinitron CRT television. And Sony Trinitron KV-32FQ80U CRT Television (with Stand). Especially the latter. Myself and the ex had these two tvs between 2005 to 2012. (When she dumped me. It’s political) For gaming retro, they were totally ace! The shiny screens would make the games pop with colour. Especially Xbox original and GameCube. We didn’t use SCART or S-video leads. We used the RGB three coloured leads (where yellow is the video output). We also had a totally bananas Sony 5.1. System with its multi format amp settings and a booming sub. (I was with a gamer chic - hence the tech). Those Sony tvs are cool but do weigh a metric ton. So get some help. Thank me later. Not watched all this latest vid of yours yet. But will get round to it. Stay safe.

The high pitch squeal coming from it is definitely really annoying at first, but you can get used to it pretty quickly, just leave it on in the background while you are doing something else and eventually, you'll get used to it. It might be a painful process but at least it saves you from a few headaches lol.

Those dots on the black edge of the screen are supposed to be there it's how they line the screen up ,that's normal. You can use like a wet wipe on the screen if it's still got smudges on it then wipe it off with a cloth , good video, we had Orion cheap tvs here in the UK. 👍

Okay I have observed this video - is the whine from this TV as bad in real life as it is in this video? It kind of bothered my head too. The thing is, I watched this on my Toshiba 27A45, which is also an Orion CRT from 2001. I have NEVER heard a CRT screech for blood like this; the 15KHz whine on mine is tame by comparison. The *hellsound* coming from yours sounds a fair bit lower than 15k. Sounds like I got hit with a flashbang. I ask because, maybe this is abnormal and you don't need to suffer headaches all the time :) Maybe bad components? Possibly poor grounding?
@YasmineCollects

Good question, I was having issues with my mic and had to amplify the sound significantly on the clips where we're watching shows and I'm talking. I think it's making it sound more intense because of that. I have considered grounding issues. I have a LOT of sh*t plugged into surge protectors...
