Hi guys and welcome back to yasminecollects! Today we're doing some more 2007 type living with a new MP3 player. Ever since I sold my smartphone, it's been a huge pain to deal with lugging around my iPad. So instead I tried my luck with this little guy. As I mentioned in the video, I really don't enjoy when people purchase items to throw them away. So I hope this player serves me well over the years, so far so good. It takes time to use older technology, but once you get used to it I promise it's SO worth the peace.
Also if you enjoy old school Windows media player or Windows 7, we get to play around with that as well. I also digitized a majority of my CD collection!

[TECHMOAN INTENSIFIES...] If your MP3 player is visible as a removable drive, it should make things straightforward under any OS. Teeny tiny and tinny sounding built-in speaker... meeeeeeeeeeh. An easy way of starting me on a rant about how people these days listen to music on speakers that can't reproduce the accoustic band, especially in public, but let's not go there. I have a hardware MP3 player... not really using it. Sometimes I listen to music files on my laptop's HDD, but I mainly go for vinyl records and CDs nowadays. I never used WMP. Winamp whipped the llama's ass for some time in my W98 and XP days, then I switched to Foobar2000. Later on, when I changed my OS to Debian, I wanted to preserve Foobar's look and feel, so I stick with deadbeef. And as a goth gal close to her 40s, I really like your style :)

Love this comment and subscribed to your channel! Vacuum tube witch is iconic, we need some more femmes in this space 💗 My car CD player is broken and it’s so annoying, I have plans on doing a video about it at some point but it’s one of those projects that you always run out of time for. But I’m prettttyyyy sure the laser needs cleaning and that’s it. Hopefully

Sony still sells Walkmans (MP3 players, not cassette players) and they're currently on sale on their website. If you want a good name-brand MP3 player, I recommend picking one up. Another good name in MP3 players is SanDisk (Western Digital). Also, at 8:18 when you ask about why Windows Media Player supports this brand new MP3 player, it's because it supports a common file transfer standard called Media Transfer Protocol (MTP), which is used by media players, cameras, and Android phones for file transfers, and doesn't require a driver. Annoyingly, Macs don't support it. A few months ago we found our old iPod Nano 6th generation (8 GB, red). Interesting time capsule as to what we used to listen to back then...

I'm going to say right here my parents allowed me to buy CDs and cassettes along with vinyl LP. And also there is an importance to owning physical media more than ever now because a lot of the streaming services like Netflix or Hulu or even Spotify and even Steam for games. A TV show or a movie or an album or a game may be here today but it may not be here tomorrow on a streaming service. So I think it's actually more important to own DVDs and blu-rays.VHS video cassettes. Betamax. Laser discs. Video CDs. Cassettes. CDs. Vinyl LP records. 8tracks. Digital Compact Cassettes (DCC). More than ever. And I know there's some formats that you probably have never heard of like DCC something that I think you should consider looking into buying a few albums that were released on DCC and unit to play them back on.

PSP 3000 was my daily driver for a decade for videos and music on the go and I still have it. I love it and will probably never part with it. I share your resentment for e-waste and tend to only buy refurbished or used hardware if I can allow it. Another amazing video as always. Keep up the good work!

Thanks for your comment! I don't mention it here but I actually love best buy's open box system where you can purchased used electronics for cheap. My camera, dvd player, almost everything I buy new was simply returned and marked down. Last thing we need is more crap being tossed

@@YasmineCollects Agreed. I put a good deal of effort into trying to get people to see in my day to day that older tech and gear doesn't inherently mean bad. We've gotten too complacent with scheduled obsolescence of electronics. I've never really bought anything from Best Buy before. I'll poke my head in next time I'm out.

I'm still using my cassette player the Panasonic RQ-SX78V from 2003, recently I've replaced the belt and it works and sounds amazing. It's also kinda fun when people on the train starring at me changing my cassette

The only mp3 player I've ever had was a Creative Nomad back in about 2002. It was neat. It was basically an entire 60gb hard drive with a screen, and you could feel the drive spinning in your hand. It got really loud, too. I got it out of the closet a couple years ago and it still worked, but the battery would just barely hold a charge. I did find an aftermarket battery but that hardly worked, either. I was sad to see it go. I had never had an ipod before, so I did get an old ipod mini and it's pretty nice. There are parts you can buy to upgrade the storage capacity, and I did that. It's a fun project you might want to try.

hell yeah, i love rippin CDs its my fav part of thrifting them lol. most of the tunes im after lately have been things that are gonna be really rare at the thrift, like charli xcx, sophie, 100 gecs etc so ive been using soulseek to download albums until im able to get a physical copy. though i should mention im not a massive physical media person, for me as long as i have a drm free copy saved locally and a backup on my network storage im pretty happy and content.
