More fun with No-Cals - the Turbo Cessna 195

This is another short kit from Volare products, the Turbo Cessna 195. Files for the printed tissue are also available at Volare, if you want to print it yourself (shrink the tissue first), or for purchase from Hummingbird model products. It has a fairly large wing area and can handle a pretty large prop, 10" in this case with a pitch of 15". This is a video of only the second flight, already over 4 minutes!

Excellent! Those are some nice, practical mods you've made. Having a removable wing is a great idea--sure reduces storage and transportation issues. Always enjoy your videos!

Thanks, yes, the removable wing is a must, my box has two pennyplanes and two no-cals with room to spare! Also thanks for replying to the question below.

Yes, and the 15" pitch form shown in the video is still available from indoor freeflight supply!

That was only the second flight so I can't make any firm recommendations! That flight was with a 3/32" motor loop, 22" long, and I think I had about 2000 winds on it.

I use a plastic straw for the motor tube.

Plastic is nowhere near as strong or as light as a rolled balsa tube, and tubes this size are fairly easy to roll, although a stick would be fine as well.

We must not have been trying the same kinds of plastic straws.

I weighed the straws I use. I got 1.7 grams per straw. They are 8.5 inch long and .5 in dia. How does that compare to the balsa motor tube on the plane in the video.

That's a ton, more than half the weight of my Cessna Centurian! The raw balsa tube used in the video weighs .34 grams.

2ND thought here . would it not be more aerodynamic if both sides of the fuselage were covered . More smooth .

Just adds weight. Another half gram of weight on a 4.85 gram model is an increase of 10%!
